“Clean, good value + good location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2010

> Tricky to find at first, however once you remember right, right, left through the narrow streets it's fine!

> At first it feels dangerous walking along these narrow streets, however the streets are lit at night and it was safe. (However I still wouldn't really fancy walking back alone at night)

> Only 5-10mins walk from the night market etc.

> The Raid itself was nice- recently painted, clean rooms, comfortable bed and breakfast was tasty and plentiful.

> My only criticisms: The room didn't have a lock (the other rooms did), but we were told our belongings would be safe and they were + the shower was small - however there was plenty of hot water.

My only suggestion: Make sure you have the hostel set up a taxi from the airport for you, so they can come meet you at the parking lot. Otherwise you will have to pay a taxi, then pay someone to take you to the hostel, because there is just NO WAY you will find it on your own. That being said, it was spotlessly clean, breakfast was delicious, the staff was very nice. The mattress was harder than I like, but great other than that! Perfect location

The riad was really lovely, and a calm respite from the Djema el Fna, but we found bedbugs the second night we were there, and the staff of the Riad neither apologized nor did anything about them. Upon returning to the UK we learned that previous guests had reported bedbugs as well, and even after we told the staff about the bugs, they remade the bed immediately for the next unfortunate couple to stay in our room after we left. Not very professional, and I wonder if perhaps there was just a miscommunication about how serious a problem bedbugs are...

O.k so this riad was a challenge to find the first couple of times but once we got the hang of it the walk was no problem at all (just be carefull of the holes in the floor!!). I recommened either getting a transfer when you arrive or allow someone to show you the way but expect to pay a small price for thier friendly service. The riad is only about a 10 minute walk from the main square and is lined with shops along the way and really quite well lit at night.

The service from the moment we entered the front door was second to none. Everyone speaks fantastic English (and french) and were more than helpfull. We were greated with mint tea and an explanation, with the aid of a map, of the area and must see places. This was immensley helpfull because the trip was a last minute idea and we hadn't exaclty planned much for it!

Our room was lovely, very clean and quite spacious. The room we had was on the first floor and this did mean we could hear everyone arrive for breakfast, for some this may be a down point but this at least ensured we got up in the mornings! The only small downside to the room was the layout of the bathroom, it only seperated by a 3/4 wall and no door, not exactly romantic! However i am led to believe this is quite common for riads.

We orgnised 2 trips with the riad and o.k these may be more expensive than doing it off your own back but really worth it for the lack of hassle. They will do their best to organise these trips for as many people to go at once to make them cheaper and there is no hard selling at all. On our second trip we were finished earlier than expected but instead of just dropping us back early we were given a guided tour of different places only really reachable by car.

The rest of the riad is full of character and the roof garden a pleasent escape from the busy city. Breakfast in the mornong consists of pancakes, bread, cake, jams, tea or coffee. All very delicious but i did start to miss cereals/fruit etc.

The palaces and gardens are all worth a visit, all very cheap but unfortunately our French wasn't exactly good enough to make the most of them as everything is written in French.

In the evenings the square comes alive with many, many food stalls. i would suggest eating here as its not only very inexpensive but full of atmosphere. One major tip is to eat where the locals eat ( cooking area in the middle and tables all the way around the outside) these have no one trying to literally drag you in and are SO much nicer than those catering specifically for tourists. I found the food at the touristy ones bland and very salty.

Our thanks to all at Riad 34 for a fantastic stay at the vibrant city Marrakesh!

This is a beautiful riad close to a number of tourist attractions. The staff are friendly and helpful, and helped us plan our stay. Rooms are clean, though the toilet could do with being more private - it's separated from the bedroom area by no more than a head-height wall.

The major problem is how to find the riad without help. The street is not marked on any of the tourist maps, and is 4 streets off the main Riad Zitoun Jdid. Try to call ahead to get someone to meet you.

Originally tried to book Riad Jomana but it was full booked so the owners suggested Riad 34 instead. This was my first experience of staying at a riad and I was pleasantly surprised!!

Location: The riad is off a main pedestrian shopping street and was a little hard to locate in the beginning (I local helped me find it for a small tip- this is a common and quite useful practice for young children or men to help you find places or direct you in exchange for 10-20 dirhams). After a few times though I managed to find it all by myself. The riad was close to many of the main sightseeing places such as the Bahia palace, but was quiet at night.

Staff: The staff are truly very friendly, polite and helpful. Really excellent staff!

Room: The room was very comfortable and was obviously kept up to a good standard of cleanliness. Bed was comfy and so was pillow. There was also a nice main courtyard to sit in.

Breakfast was pancakes, bread , cake(!) with an assortment of jams. There was also coffee and a delicious freshly squeezed orange juice.
Overall great value for money and I would stay here again.

Nice place. The previous night we had stayed in Riad Jomana (the same owner). This riad costs less, but isn't significantly less quality than Jomana. The common area and rooftop terrace are both very nice, though the actual bedroom is a bit smaller and less glamorous. If you buy anything extra through the riad it is a bit expensive since they charge you in Euros. The billing procedure is a bit of a hassel, but nothing too serious.

It is located southeast of the main square. The street is a bit sketchy, and a bit hard to find initially, but once you walk around a bit you feel comfortable with the area. Very close to palace Bahia.
