“Highly recommended riad”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2014

We arrived at Riad La Porte Rouge after several days in the mountains and desert and it was like arriving at an oasis. Despite its competitive price, the riad is so luxurious with incredible attention to detail both in terms of the Riad itself and the staff. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff are always on hand to help, whether it be recommending places to buy souvenirs / prices to pay, where the main tourist attractions are or simply making sure you know how to get to the place you've planned to go.

We stayed in Narjisse and were aware that this was a small room before arriving. However, it was much bigger than we expected it to be and of the same standard as all the other rooms. The room is downstairs off the central courtyard but we were never kept awake by noise. The rooms were cleaned every day, super comfortable and the air con was a godsend as temperatures were well in to the 40s.

The roof terrace is lovely and the hot tub is a great addition.

This was the best riad we stayed in during our holiday in Marrakech and we'd highly recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to stay.

On arrival, we were impressed by the Riad, its decor, furnishings etc...We wanted to use the rooftop Jacuzzi, it was out of order for all of our stay. We could not use the roof terrace as there were workmen on the terrace to " fix the jacuzzi"? the sun loungers were "out of order" due to this. More important, we found this Riad to be very noisy, noise from staff and guests late at night, dragging furniture on the roof terrace above our room, talking loudkly, washing a very large amount of dishes loudly? This was very disappointing to us as we had chosen this " luxury riad" as a treat to end our trip and wished we had rebooked at the simple riad we had begun our Morocco adventure at.

Dear Sir,

We would like to thank you for this review and your stay in the riad.
The riads in Marrakech medina are very historical with homely and familial service, riad la porte rouge is one of this riads which offer a professional service and comfortable stay for their guests, you can check many reviews of our guests more than 96% are Excellent this mean that our position is very important to get the confidence of many guests.
We can understand your review and your short stay in the riad, this is mean that one day our technicians of jacuzzi are looking to control the motor that took few minutes, the jacuzzi located in the corner and right side of the roof terrace,we have the Berber tent witch you can use any time and the left side of the terrace with tables and sitting area, the technique control is very important and you can find it at any hotel, riad or guests house to realise the attention and good service even the jacuzzi is free for all the guests but i can not understand how you saw the technicians in the roof terrace and your review (We could not use the roof terrace as there were workmen on the terrace to " fix the jacuzzi"),we can close the roof terrace if there are any big problems. For the noisy of the riad guests as different riads you can find it even in the luxury hotels in the world,we can't say for them to stop talking before sleeping time i mean after 10pm.
I thank you again for this review as we are always very careful with the feedback of our guests.

We booked this for a nice relaxing weeks break, and lets just say we weren't disappointed. We searched TripAdvisor for a reasonably priced quality Riad as we wanted to be within the real Marakech and found the perfect little gem.
It is situated nicely away from the chaos but close enough for the tourist attractions with the Saadian tombs and Badi Palace particularly close.
On arrival we were greeted by Ahmed, (sorry if spelt incorrectly) such a lovely host! Always ready to help and give advice such as the prices to pay within the Souks to avoid getting ripped off. He showed us a list of excursions, advised us where to eat and told us which attractions we should see. He never stopped being helpful and always seemed happy to help.
The Riad itself is amazingly decorated. It is very beautiful and has so much detail. Every time you look around you notice something new. The styling is so authentic. Our room (Warda) was decorated in deep reds and the furniture was so introcate with the patterns designed on it. One major bonus is the air conditioning. To return to an air conditioned room after a days chaos in the Souks and the place Jemaa El Fna is heaven. The roof garden is a pardise away from any where. It has some beautiful plants and flowers which create a lovely ambience. There is a hot tub, sun beds, chill out area and a few tables where you can eat any of your meals.
The food cooked at the Riad is off a very high standard and is all home cooked and fresh. With the price being very reasonable especially compared to some of the tourist traps near the square (be warned).
So a big thanks goes to the staff of the Riad for making our stay so comfortable, pleasurable and relaxing.

Just came back from Marrakech where I had a 4 night stay in La Porte Rouge. Already read on tripadvisor that this riad has an excellent recommendation by other travellers and I must say ... they were right! The staff gives you a warm welcome with tea and cookies, a guidance through the riad and a detailed route you can follow to explore the old city of Marrakech.
The riad is situated at the edge of the medina, no worries ... only 15 minute walk of Jemaa-el-Fna, the main square of Marrakech.

Every day we had breakfast on the roofterrace (a quiet place in the sun) which included 3 different specialities. Great way to discover what locals eat. In the evening you can eat at this riad, you are not obliged to eat outside. And I must say we had the couscous royal ... the portion was enormous ... but delicious :-)
They offer various excursions outside Marrakech and follow up the service of these excursions.

Marrakech is a busy city and the roofterrace is an excellent place to escape of it all: jacuzzi, sunbathing, massages, ... everything you need to relax is offered in this riad. Especially the massage is a must! Choose the 1-hour-massage ... you won't regret it!

Conclusion: this riad is a gem in Marrakech, very friendly staff, excellent service, great food, ... I will definitely return to Marrakech and this riad! Thank you Karen and your staff to make our stay wonderfull!

Room Tip: we had room Narjisse for 2 people: a bit too small but clean, also at the ground floor near the kitc...

I just returned from a 4 night stay at this wonderful riad and i had the best time!
From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, every person working there is superfriendly, welcoming and so attentive! The service is what makes this place so outstanding!

We stayed in the Narjisse room, a very small but cosy room with all the comfort needed for a nice stay. The room is situated on the ground floor near the kitchen and the dining/breakfast area so for people sensitive to noices for sleeping, best bring earplugs. We both slept without, falling fast a sleep in the comfy beds after an active day! ;)

The breakfast on the rooftop terrace was to our taste and every morning something different! I missed more fruit with my breakfast but that's a personal taste. The freshly squized orange juice made up for that! :)

The location is in the south of the medina, near the Royal Palace, about 20 minutes by foot to Djmaa El Fna. And if you're to tired to walk back after all the slow pace walking through the souks ;), just stop a taxi and ask to bring you to Bab (gate) Hmar, very close to the riad.
It is true what i read on the forums though, try to stop an older men driving a taxi, they're far less pushy then the young men and correct in their pricing. To give you an idea of the pricing:
* Bab Hmar - Jardins Majorelle: DRH 40
* Bab Hmar - Djmaa El Fna: DRH 20
In the night, taxi's are more expensive. Do try discussing the price, it's typical Marrakech and it's a good excercise when buying something you need/want! :)

The massage they offer (Touria) is "out of this world, sensationaly good" !!! Best massage of my life so my advice to you all: go for the 1h massage, you'll not be sorry!!

We had 1 dinner there and wauw -again- ! Royal Couscous is soooo jammy but when they say "royal" in Marrakech (and definitly in this riad), don't feel to bad after finishing and seeing no change to the plate... :D You'll not be the only ones!

I'll definitly return to this gem when back in Marrakech and i will recommend it to my friends!

We were greeted with a lovely glass of local tea, cakes and really friendly staff who could not do enough to help us. Lovely roof terrace breakfasts, ambiance and very quiet. Would definitely recommend people to book. Not the closest to town but a nice walk.

We had a really wonderful weeks holiday based at this Riad. The standard of service was second to none, the staff do not find anything too much trouble and they are all so friendly and helpful. The Riad allowed us to get a taste of traditional Morrocco , amazing rooms and courtyard and rooftop gardens. The walk into the main square takes about 15- 20 mins , it's busy with mopeds etc I must mention the fantastic homemade breakfasts which were different every day , and the tagine we ate several evenings were delicious too, stay here, you won't be disappointed . Thanks so much to Madame and all of the wonderful staff .
