“Everything you could want”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

This is a very tastefully renovated (actually rebuilt) Riad. Michele is an excellent host who, as well as being responsible for the design, knows Marrakech inside out and is great at recommending places to visit which aren't necessarily on the obvious tourist list. The staff are all very friendly and they are clearly a happy team. Indeed, we liked the Riad a lot more than Marrakech itself!

It was our first hotel in Morocoo and we was very surprised! When we arrived we were welcome by Michele who show us the riad and gave us tips of Marrakech.

The rooms are beautiful, the staff is extremely friendly and the breakfast was amazing! We had some problems with the hot water but everyone tried to help us, so they solve it very fast.

We can't wait to visit it again!

This was my 4th visit to the wonderful Riad Assakina and there is nowhere I would recommend more highly!
Michele and Grant always make every visit so special and are always able to recommend new restaurants and places to visit, making the whole experience of Marrakech much more fun and less daunting than it could be. The staff are charming and welcome us like old friends, whilst quietly and discreetly looking after our every need....an ice cold gin and tonic, with nuts and delicious olives, as the sun goes down was especially welcome! The bedrooms are beautifully designed and finished to an excellent standard and a credit to Michele. I always look forward to breakfast too....it's such a treat to have the fresh fruit and yogurt and delicious fresh pastries.
The Riad is so perfect I can't wait to visit again!

The Assakina Riad is well situated in the old Jewish Quarter and provides easy access to a number of the palaces that should be on your “to see” list. Parking is near by and if you are doing this for your first time..we found you can trust your car to the parking lot attendants - they will watch your car and the charge is only a few dollars a day. The parking for this riad is a 5 or so min walk away and the hosts will come meet you and help with luggage. The hosts and staff are very accommodating and have done a nice job renovating this Riad - an old home with quite an interesting past! The staff was attentive and made you feel at home. The breakfast was very nicely done and served in a comfortable lower floor lounge. The rooms are quite nice but not large in either the bedroom or bathroom. The floor plan makes the room a bit receptive to noise from the interior, but as long as the other guests are not noisy, it is fine. The terrace is excellent and provides quite nice views over Marrakech. From the Riad to the main square, it is a 15-20 min walk and nice to be a bit away from it in our view. A nice, comfortable oasis.

Our thanks to this reviewer for his many positive comments. The two slightly negative points are perhaps due to a lack of familiarity with the nature of Marrakech riads.

Specifically:

1. Our rooms range in size from 17-36 sq.m, depending on budget (this reviewer booked the smallest). Marrakech is an ancient, busy, crowded city, so space here has always been at a premium. However, our rooms are larger than most. Before we renovated it, 19 families used to live in our riad. We now look after just 12 guests in spacious & beautiful surroundings, so we hope that says it all!

2. Our floor plan is that of a classic riad i.e. with rooms based around & facing on to a central courtyard, away from the hubbub outside. That courtyard is a space for relaxing and enjoying calmness & hospitality; the beautiful lemon trees; the cooling pool; and maybe some light music. It is true that if someone is being extremely noisy in the courtyard, it can be intrusive; but there are other areas in the riad to enjoy as well; and, on the rare occasions that it has been an issue, our polite intervention has always been respected.

Once again, we thank this reviewer for coming to stay with us; and we look forward to welcoming you to our home, too!

We stayed here about a year ago and it was truly an excellent experience. Michelle, Grant and the entire staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. From moving us to a bigger room, arranging dinners, and directing us to the best places to shop in the souk, we couldn't have asked for better hosts. The hotel is impeccably decorated and the rooms, although small, were quite lovely. The roof terrace is a great spot to enjoy a glass of wine, some tapas, and the sunset. Excellent value for the price! Definitely stay here in Marrakech. We will be back!

This is one of the favourite places I have ever stayed. Michele and Grant were so hospitable. They knew everything about Marrakesh and were more than willing to help with any request. They obviously love Marrakesh and also love running the Riad. We felt like friends of their's coming to stay. The place itself is beautiful with incredible attention to detail. If you are in Marrakesh you must stay here!

I have just returned from my second visit to the wonderful Riad Assakina in Marrakech.
Why did I go back for a second visit? Simply because I had such a wonderful stay the first time and wanted to show my husband this " little gem" in Morrocco. We were not disappointed - it was just as good, if not better, than the first visit.
To start with, it is located in a perfect place. In a quiet alleyway, just off one of the main routes leading straight into the bustling city centre. The main square, the fantastic souk, the old spice market, the many museums and ancient riads, not to mention a variety of fantastic restaurants, bars and spas, are all within walking distance. How amazing to step out of this haven of tranquility, known as the Riad Assakina, into this vibrant and ancient city.
Our hosts, Grant and Michele, have created a beautiful , peaceful and friendly atmosphere with smiling and helpful staff always available - yet never intrusive.
Our room was fantastic. Cool and comfortable, the walls hung with wonderful Morrocan antiques - yet with a modern twist. Perfect. In fact, throughout the Riad , you are more than well-aware of Michele's great flair for colour and design.
Advice was given freely on where to go, what to do, restaurants were recommended, tables booked, taxis arranged - exactly what one wants when away in an unknown city, with only a few days to explore.
Worth mentioning too are the amazing breakfasts we had. Freshly squeezed orange juice ( the best we've ever had) , lovely local pasties, fresh fruit and eggs, cooked anyway you wished. All delicious. This, and the afternoon complimentary tea and cakes, kept us going until our evening meal.
The roof terrace is also worth a mention. With a mixture of sun and shade, an abundance of comfortable beds and chairs, a great view of the city and a small plunge pool for cooling off - we were loathed to leave this spot to go to explore Marrakech!
Thank you Grant and Michele for making our short stay so special - we will be back !!
