“Riad Assakina”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

The Riad is outstandingly beautiful, with roof top views over the city from the sun terraces, with plunge pool, and a wonderfully cool court yard with swimming pool which was Heaven on a hot day. The hosts Grant and Michele are very warm and welcoming and made our stay comfortable and their staff very attentive to our needs. The Riad is convenient to the main square and souks in easy walking distance, we were shown where to go and given advise on the best places to go, we shall definately be returning this Autumn!

Room Tip: All the rooms are fabulous but it depends on your budget as to what space is available.

My wife and i have just returned from marrakech/essaouria and stayed here at this lovely riad when in marrakech !! Michelle made us feel at home as soon as we got through the door !! Her staff isham and naoul are a credit to the riad .so polite and nothing is to much trouble for them ... we would stay here again when next in marrakech !!

The Riad is perfectly located in the heart of the Medina - fantastic location, decor, service, advice, breakfast, staff, booking process, communication - I can not fault anything,
Excellent advice from Michele and Grant on where to eat/visit. Nothing was too much trouble and they booked transfers, taxis, 4x4, restaurants - would especially recommend a day at Bab Ourika.
To experience Marrakesh on your door step, to have 5 star service and accommodation, then the Raid Assakina is where you should stay.

Room Tip: Ask for advice on where to go and go with what is recommended

Michele and Grant are incredibly gracious, accommodating hosts, and Riad Assakina is lovely. My mother and I had a very comfortable stay in beautiful air-conditioned rooms and the staff is unfailingly friendly and helpful. Both Michele and Grant were very generous with advice and happy to assist with all travel arrangements, and their riad is located very close to numerous points of interest including Jemaa el-Fnaa and the medina. Thank you!

My wife and I stayed at Riad Assakina for 4 nights at the end of May. Hidden away up a dusty alley in the Medina near to the Bahia Palace, an amazing sight is revealed once the door is open. The owners, Grant and Michele, are people of vision, but also very down to earth and approachable. Michele's speciality is interior design and as a result the decor and artefacts are of a high quality and great interest. She is also a fountain of advice and knowledge with regard to local shopping, which is a great help when being overwhelmed with the options with a lack of knowledge regarding the 'fair price'. The Riad was pleasantly cool and peaceful, and only 10-15 minutes walk from the 'square' and the souks. There are good restaurant and snack options nearby, and the owners provide excellent maps showing everything you need. Breakfasts were good and a dinner can also be arranged with a few days notice, which we enjoyed, and also gave as more opportunity to chat to Grant and Michele. We found the service excellent throughout and would not hesitate to return in future.

A sumptuously appointed, centrally located riad, absurdly comfortable, with attentive, solicitous staff. The owners, Michelle and Grant, are very charismatic couple who (with advice, maps, etc) immediately unraveled mysteries of Marrakech for us. Also, quite unexpectedly, we had some great conversations with other guests who happened to be staying at riad.

We stayed at the Riad Assakina in March for 3 nights. It is a beautiful place that will certainly amaze you. The breakfasts are incredible - we looked forward to them everyday. The view from the terrace is perfect, it's an awesome place to spend a late afternoon or watch sunset. The rooms are all unique and have a touch of personality in each of them. It is clearly a work of love.

My only reason for not giving it five stars is I felt a bit on edge with the service at times. Before I arrived, our email interaction had a back & forth about the price which felt almost like a negotiation - something I hadn't experienced with luxury boutiques. When I arrived early at the airport and our car hadn't arrived, I called the Riad and was told it was because I was xyz minutes early and more time was spent telling me how early I was than getting the car. We had a silly situation where we got lost and were charged $5 for missing a pre-ordered car which we were told would wait for us. Ultimately things were sorted (the $5 was refunded), but the service was not "laid back" which was what we wanted and what we got from our other Riads. When you arrive, expect 30 minutes of details about the city before being shown your room.

I would still recommend the place to someone who wants a beautiful getaway, owners who clearly care a lot about your experience, great food, great service, and a stunning place.

Room Tip: We stayed in Suite du Caid which is very nice.

There are a lot of positives to take from this review, for which we thank the reviewer.

The only things to note are as follows:

1. The changes to the price quoted were due to the fact that this guest kept changing the date and duration of his stay with us.

2. When the guest called from the airport he was an hour early. We merely tried to explain & provide reassurance; and then get our driver there as soon as possible. If folk are an hour early (or an hour late) it is not without its difficulties for all concerned.

3. We try to tailor our initial "hello" & briefing to the needs of the guest in question. It is affected , of course, by how many questions they ask etc, but we try to keep things as concise as possible.

In any event, we are pleased that this guest enjoyed his stay with us; and that he feels able to recommend us for the reasons he explains.

We do care greatly about our guests' experience in our fabulous city; and we are delighted that it seems to be appreciated.
