“relaxing last days”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

the reviews on trip advisor were mixed, which i can now appreciate. it really depends on what you want from this hotel. i stayed at the end of my trip for two nights. just wanted to relax and feel the sun. at reception they don't pass on any info. the porter was more helpful in giving times of breakfast etc and the different restaurants available. it seems to cater more for families the children seem to be having plenty of fun as the team were very encouraging.

good for short stay unless your into the all inclusive family fun. for the price cant fault it.

The room is spacious and the staff whether it be the waiters or the entertainers every single person is nice and helpful. The food is nice and tasty. Also in the souks it was nice and interesting with different culture which was very intriguing.

Our trip to Marrakesh was brilliant.

- Change money at hotel (£1 = 12.3 dirhams) and not at Gatwick airport (£1 = 9.3 dirhams)

- Airport transfers without issue.

- Check In was smooth we were served Moroccan tea and biscuits while we waited for the hotel reception staff to check us in, and even though we arrived at 10:45 am we were given access to our rooms immediately.

- we had booked two rooms six months apart and the hotel had managed to locate us next to each other which was brilliant.

- Cleanliness of the rooms was average but the cleanliness of the toilet was unacceptable. But once this was pointed out it was cleaned.

- The only issue to occur was the fact that there was no iron in the room. This was a big issue for our daughters, apparently it's a health and safety issue. The hotel insurance does not allow an iron in your room. It would be helpful if this was mentioned on the website

Shuttle buses had to be booked at reception we used to book a shuttle bus for 10 o'clock every morning to come back on the 12.30 and then rebooked for the evening shuttle leaving at 8 PM the shuttle was very reliable and the driver Ahmedt who spoke limited English was very helpful. He helped us arrange a taxi to pick us back up at 10 o'clock with a friend of his call Muhammed for 200 dirhams for a seven seater AC bus back to the hotel every night.

Visiting the main square was very enjoyable we used to go in the morning which is probably better for shopping as it was very quiet. In the evening the souks can be quite hectic and you have to keep a close eye on your daughters. The comments made by their various people in the market is usual lighthearted banter. The market is a little hectic and it is likely you will leave with a new name like Shakira, Fatima, Aisha etc.

The food in the Hotel was amazing breakfast was a little bit repetitive but lunch was really very tasty. So much variety and the biggest advantage was that it wasn't very busy in the evenings. The only drawback was that dinner started at 7:30pm and we always wanted to catch the 8pm shuttle. So dinner was always rushed.

The animation team were brilliant with a special mention to Nina, Dino and Hassan. Nina was really helpful on the first day. She gave us an orientation talk which involved a guided tour around the whole hotel and its facilities. She answered all our questions regarding safety and where to go and what to do in the markets, cost of taxis back to hotel (100 Dirhams).

Top tips for a brilliant holiday tip 1 : change money at the hotel and not at Gatwick airport
2 - make sure to iron all your clothes before you come.
3- be friendly, smile
4- call everyone by their name.
Animation Team - Nina, Dino and Hassan
Housekeeping - Hafsa
Towel Hut - Hassan
Shuttle Driver - ahmedt
Waitress - Ikkaram
It makes the holiday more personal.
5- get local advice re taxi cost, safe areas etc

The staff couldn't have been more helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel. The hotel was only at 40% capacity when we were there. I wonder how they would cope with a full hotel. Definitely recommended for an out if season holiday.

The Eden Andalou is resting on withered laurels, these days. It is still a perfectly nice place to stay if you don’t expect it to be 5* standard.

On the plus side, the staff are all very nice. They are happy to serve and make every effort to make sure you get everything you need to make your stay comfortable. The pools (not the Aquapark) are nice and are well kept, as are the grounds, so the surroundings are okay, if you don’t look too close.

Personally, I found the food good enough (just) but not high quality ingredients (poor cuts of meat, low cost breakfast products (ham and cheese particularly)) and contrary to other reviews I thought there were actually too many vegetarian dishes. Drinks are ridiculously expensive outside all inclusive periods so be extra careful about what you are ordering. It is worth pointing out that this is the same in clubs and bars across Marrakech (£240 for a bottle of champagne in one place!). Hotel staff will also monitor your ordering so don’t expect to be able to take an extra couple of drinks to enjoy after the 10 o’clock curfew as they will cut you off!

Once you start to look around there are a few signs that the hotel is getting on a bit - the decor in the rooms is very dated with poor lighting in the bathrooms and leaky shower units. I found the room comfortable but annoyingly the maids kept the balcony doors open while they cleaned the rooms which had the inevitable consequence of letting the room fill with mosquitos! I twice had to get them to spray my room after coming in and finding it completely infested with them!

The common areas are a little tatty round the edges. Don’t expect to get Wi-Fi anywhere other than the reception area - it isn’t fitted to any other part of the hotel. You may also get frustrated if there are any more than about three people using it at the same time, it is just too slow!

Biggest concern for me was the tour company operating in the hotel (and owned by the owner). Myself and a colleague booked a souk tour (not cheap at DR300 each) thinking we would at least be protected from the dangers of hawkers talking us into buying things we didn’t want. How wrong could we be! While at first the guide seemed very pleasant we were taken to a rug shop where the owner cuckolded us into buying rugs at what turned out to be over market prices. The same in the spice shop. We realised the guide must have been on a retainer with selected vendors - we felt we’d been had! While we were there, a group took a quad bike tour - a few hundred yards from the hotel two of them came off - the guide carried on and left them at the side of the road! Both of them ended up in hospital. My advice is to organise your tours with another operator.

All-in-all the Eden Andalou is a nice place to stay, as long as you don’t expect it to live up to it’s 5* billing and accept it for it’s little failings and quirks. Alternatively, there are other 4* hotels with higher standards in Marrakech, look around and take your time choosing where you stay. Eden Andalou should be on your list, just not at the top of it.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have nice patios.

Before I fully start this review I wanted to set a few things out; this isn't a 5 star hotel as we know it in Europe (we are in Marrakech) but that doesn't make it bad as my review will point out! The value of this hotel is incredible, if you shop around you can 7 nights all inclusive (AI) for £250 per person, that's £35 a night per person! Another thing to note is that there is a mixture of AI, H/B and B&B at this hotel hence why there are some bars and restaurants on site that you pay for, we didn't use these as we where AI although you did get a discount if you did use them because of the AI status. I like to think in well travelled so my review is fair.

We organised a hotel taxi to collect us from the airport, soon as we landed he was there and took is straight to the hotel, this cost 180dhr. On arrival we were greeted by friendly reception staff and a bell boy who gave us a Morrocan mint tea and some Morrocan biscuits, all very nice although the biscuits did taste like a flour bomb in your mouth but hey, that's the Morrocan way!

The AI option operates breakfast, lunch and dinner from one restaurant. There are many many options to chose from but they are the same options every night, the tip here is not to have a bit of everything on the first night as you soon get tired, that said the quality and quantity is extremely good. There is also a snack which is pizza and sandwiches served around 4pm each day, this is available from the AI bar.

There is one AI bar that's open till 11pm serves coffee, tea, juices, PepsiCo etc as well as rum, vodka, local beer (very nice!) red, rose and white wine plus a full range of local spirits. Don't go expecting freshly made cocktails as these are from a machine which is why we mainly stuck to beer and vodka lemonade.

We found the room really spacious, kingsize bed, relaxation area off of the bedroom then onto a small balcony. Bathroom had a double skink, shower cubical and shower over bath. Shower had good water pressure and A/C worked a treat although maybe not as powerful at night. The room was always clean and the maid did a great job! We had a few ants kicking around the door area but they were no harm, remember we are in Morroco in the desert so you are going to get some insects!

Pool Area
There are two pools, the larger pool has four poster beds around it (not bookable) and loads of sun lounges! It never felt over crowed and you could always get a lounger were ever you wanted to no matter what time you went to the pool! The smaller pool is nice with fountains in it with about 30 loungers around it, I think this is meant to be an adult only area but there were always kids in there!
Pool towels are provided although I found them rather small so if you have a spare bit of room in your case it's worth bringing your own!

General Hotel Area
Reception and the two areas off of reception are really beautiful, decorated in traditional Morrocan style. Once again all the areas are always clean and tidy!
Apart from our room majority of the hotel had free wifi, even around the pool area which I found handy! There was one day it was not working but I was on holiday after all!
The grounds are very well kept, olive trees everywhere and you can tell its all very well maintained.

Bus to Marrakech City
The hotel has a free bus that leaves on the hour direct to the city (about 20min journey) and picks you up at the same point on the half hour every hour, you need to book this the day before at hotel reception-it's defiantly worth doing! The bus was always on time so no problems at all with this. The review below said they paid 300drh for a taxi from the City back to the hotel, you need to haggle as we only paid 80drh when we decided to stay and not get the free bus back one evening!

Spa / Aqua Park
We didn't use either of these but the prices for the spa were on par with UK prices if not a little bit cheaper! The Aqua Park isn't free even if your AI although kids were going in free with the animation team at some points during the day.

The entertainment is mainly focused at young children although there wasn't at lot at the hotel. Adults can take part in various dance lessons around the pool during the day and on an evening. I would like to see some more adult focused entertainment like shows or people from outside of the hotel playing traditional music/dancing etc - just something to watch on an evening! Saying that you can not fault the entertainment staff, they were brilliant and we often chatted with them; Hassan, Nina and Dino really made the days and nights a good laugh and an enjoyment to spend time chatting with.

Like in every country if you tip you get better service and smile - we gave the bar staff about 20dhr a day (same person) and he looked after us, sometimes bringing drinks direct to out seat on an evening which saved the short walk to bar!

A few things to note is that there is a 35dhr per person per night tax, this is set by the Morrocan government and paid directly to the hotel on departure, so remember to budget for that! Also bring plenty of sun cream as its expensive in morrocco, a small bottle of Nivia will set you back 240dhr.

All in all we wanted a cheap week away in the sun (weather was between 38-45 degrees all week!) with good food and drink and that's exactly what we got, away from the hussle and bussel of the City but easy access if we needed it! Would we recommend this hotel - yes, for 7 nights or less this is perfect!

I just spent 4 terrible days in this hotel: i used the dry cleaning services for a 2000 € tuxedo that i needed for a wedding: they simply ruined it by washing it in a regular washing machine!!! The tuxedo was returned to me 2 sizes smaller and the fabric was burnt! I ended up going to the wedding in jeans.

The next day, I spoke with the director and then the owner to get a compensation for the incident : i have been called a liar and a con artist !!

Last but not leadt the hotel is far froa 5 stars with very poor service, average food, good size room but not clean!! Too bad i love this country !

This hotel is obviously a very bad address to avoid !!!

I was expecting a 5* hotel doing an all inclusive service, as is marketed by the websites and photographs.

We got a 3* at most, food is recycled for two meals, limited vegetarian options, only one bar serving drinks all day, london prices on everything including the below par spa. The "aquapark" was also a pay to enter 60 dirhams (£5) and looked like it only had two water slides.

The room was comfortable but the air-conditioning only kicked in on the 3rd day of being there so there were a few very uncomfortable nights, the shower fitting was wonky and the water pressure was weak, the toilet was gushing water on the day we had to leave.

The hotel itself is a bit far from the medina 15/20minutes and in the middle of desert land so if you arent wanting to be near the hustle and bustle of Marrakech then it is ideal, however when it came to being picked up and dropped off for external excursions it becomes a challenge trying to get back to the hotel safely. You have to book the shuttle service the day before so you cant always guarantee a free trip to and from the medina. it did cost 300 dirhams (£25) to get back in the evenings.

The WIFI is almost a non-service so my contact with the outside world, including trying to work, was non-existent for the whole week I was there. I would spend half hour in the lobby trying to connect to the internet, only to lose it in another half hour. Surprised there wasnt a premium service that provided actual internet access from the rooms.

On the last day the staff did try to pass someone elses bill as mine and I had to argue that it wasnt me (not my name or room number on the bill), pulling out my passport to prove who I was did the trick.

Overall it was ok for what it was but not what it was trying to be.
