“Groupon Deal was a bargain! Great hotel!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2011

Myself and a friend booked the recent Groupon deal and came back from our stay at Eden Andalou on the weekend. I have to say - I have no idea where all these negative reviews have come from!? We thought the hotel was great and the staff were really friendly! There is the obvious language barrier but do not mistake this for rudeness.

The room was huge and very clean. My only negative was that the beds are hard as a rock. The shower was fab and our room was cleaned everyday. The pools are clean and have plenty of sunbeds to relax on and the hotel grounds are just as it looks on the website. The massages that are included are also really good - book as soon as you arrive especially if you are staying over the weekend as the spa is very busy.

Breakfast is standard - the pancakes are yum! We used the dinner voucher on the first night because we flew in late but the buffet wasn't very nice so we only ate the bare minimum. The food in the main square is great and super cheap so I'd recommend eating there anyway. Number 97 stall is a must! We bartered and got a taxi back for 100MAD. The shuttle bus only runs a few times a day and has limited availability so make sure you book ahead.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and I'd definitely recommend Eden Andalou hotel. It isn't 5 star but it's still lovely and if you booked with Groupon you are getting a steal!

Like many of the other recent reviews of Eden Andalou I have read, ours was a Groupon deal. Given how cheap the deal was - and that the main aim was to get away for some much-needed relaxation - the deal itself wasn't bad at all.

So, first, the plus points. Our bedroom was really lovely with a small balcony and views over the Atlas Mountains. It was clean and very comfortable and I slept really well for the duration of the break. The pools and spa facilities were spot-on too and I couldn't fault the breakfasts. All parts of the hotel were nicely presented, although the five-star finish was lacking and many things looked like they had been rushed off with a bad paint job. As much as I like the Jackson 5, listening to it full blast every day by the pool didn't add to a relaxing experience!

However, sadly, the customer service was the worst I'd experienced anywhere. The reception staff were truly dreadful and rude: despite having written confirmation of booking our airport transfers, our names were not on the list. When I raised this with them, they just shrugged their shoulders and didn't even offer an apology. Nobody seemed to take any responsibility for putting the situation right and I was made to feel as if I was an imposition.

The staff in the hotel's restaurant were equally ineffecient. They would stand around chatting amongst themselves and wouldn't bother to clear tables. Getting a drink to accompany the meal was pretty impossible, with non-existent customer service. The food itself was ok, but certainly not the standard one might expect from a supposedly five-star restaurant.

One evening we waited almost an hour to get a drink at the Jazz Bar, in spite of the fact there were only around 10 people in the whole place. When the incompetent lady at the bar finally brought us the bottle of wine (we ordered rose, she brought us red), she insisted we paid for the opened bottle of wine - despite her error - and told me red is the same as rose! I refused to pay and eventually she backed down and brought us the correct one.

In short, what was a quite relaxing break was tarnished by the quite basic lapses in customer service, with the exception of the bell-boys and the ladies in the spa, who were helpful and polite. How Eden Andalou ever gained five-star rating, I'll never know, but I do think there is potential for this to become a great place if all levels of staff undergo rigorous customer service training and start listening to their guests, rather than treating them with disdain and suspicion.

Room Tip: Keep copies of all correspondence with the hotel.

We bought the Groupon offer and having read all the comments on tripadvisor.co.uk we were a little anxious about what to expect. The hotel is vast but didn't feel particularly busy. The view from the pool area is truly stunning: to be sunning oneself by the pool overlooking the Atlas mountains is rather special. Piped music ('I will survive' and other such music) we felt was a little inappropriate. The restaurant where we used our voucher for dinner was definitely nothing to write home about but we ate out every other night. There didn't seem to be a huge amount of atmosphere in the restaurants and bars as far as we could tell. But then anyone in their right mind would be heading on the shuttle bus into the centre of Marrakech. Our room was lovely - very large, with a terrace area outside. All muted colours. The staff were helpful but I think a little briefing on how important it is to smile at guests when you pass them would go a long way. Breakfasts were fine - plenty of choice and the buffet style works well. We combined our stay with a night in a Riad in the centre - Casa Lalla. This was an ideal combination I felt as we then experienced a small traditional hotel in the midst of the souks (but very peaceful). The spa centre was nice but a briefing on what to bring and what to expect would have been useful. In all though I thought it was good value for money.

i've just come back 3 days ago, the holiday in morocco was pleasant to say the truth. YES the food may not be the best but remember its not home, its morocco and they tend to love their culture, the hotel was very nice, the staff were fantastic, may be a little pricy but its definitely worth it. 1 week was perfect i think! i would reccomend this hotel to everyone wanting to travel to marakech but prepare yourself for the food as you may get tired of the same tajine over and over again lol.

I loved that hotel for many reasons. The beautiful pool, the gardens with mandarin trees, the lovely view to the snowy mountain picks and most important how quite it was. I went with my friend using the Groupon offer but added one day more so we stayed 4 nights. At the end we both thought that would love to stay a few days more as we loved our stay there. Of course, we didn't like at all that most of the staff didn't speak good English which in fact was in moments very bad but we decided to not get nervous from this as we were there to relax. Apart from that we liked our rooms where we slept amazingly well. We liked the bus trasnfer to the city which was also part of out package but we loved the most the massages and the hammam. Well, this hotel for sure wasn't the proper 5star but taken in offer like ours was the best thing. Otherwise, I don't think it was worth it to pay the full price. Still, I would recommend it for short stay.

Billed as a five star hotel but quite frankly it isn't really.

We stayed as part of a deal that was a reasonable price but I'm unsure of what the hotel rates are ordinarily, however, if they are charging 5 * prices this is completely unjustified. We ate at the hotel restaurant once and this was distincly average to say the least; both food and service, by no means what you would consider 5*.

The breakfasts and dinner buffets were quite good and offered some tradational Morrocan dishes such as tagines (both meat based and vegertarian) but catered very much for French tourists as the majority as guests were French.

No drinks served at the inclusive buffet though, not even water! I thought this was absolutely digusting as bottles of water had to be purchased for around £3 per 1.5 litre!

Beware of the prices! Especially beers in the hotel bars, a 250ml botle of beer was approximately £4.00!

Location was good if you like peace and quiet, quiet frankly in the middle of nowhere but a free bus service was availabe a various times into central Marakech. Only problem was that the last bus back from the centre to the hotel was at 18:00, so if you wanted to stay later in town it inevitably meant getting a taxi back at around 200 dirhams. (approx £15.00/17.00 Euros)

Room was OK with traditional riads throuhout the hotel , nice beds, had TV and patio doors but shower a little dirty and by no means five star. Heating was not
brilliantly efficient either.

The health and spa centre was good offering traditional Hammans and it has a nice indoor swimming pool. Our hoilday package included some spa treatments so I'm not sure of the indivudual prices but if they were similar to bar and restaurant bills, they could be high!

Overall, I would recommend staying at this hotel for a short Marrakech break but just watch the bill for food and drinks!

David & Ania, London.

L’Eden Andalou Spa & Resort thank you for having trusted the offer exceptional GROUPON for the 3 nights in Marrakech.
It is a pleasure that we respond point by point to your remarks:
In Marrakech there are 3 choices of 5 stars.
5 star standard , 5 star deluxe and palas ( Eden Andalou Spa & Resort , Palmeraie golf palas and la mamounia ).the latter displays the average price ofapproximately 600 Euros per night , the service you wish appear are those of a 5 star luxury in the price and much higher than those of L’Eden Andalou Spa & Resort.
We are pleased that you like our own buffet and we appreciate that you mention it on trip advisor.
Morocco is a country French attendance and we believe that the English loves the French tradition that is why they buy houses on the East coast French.
In the meal included in the GROUPON offer is not all inclusive as you seem to believe but without an added value finally free and of course the drinks are never included.
We’re glad you found the location very good, is one of our best here in Marrakech at the top face of the Atlas snowed and 9 km from center.
We are surrounded by luxury villas, 2 golf, project of luxury hotel as two baglioni Marriot and beachcomber….ext.
For the shuttle bus the later is at 20h00 not at 18h00, we remind that this is a shuttle bus that includes departures and not a private taxi, knowing that the public bus stops outside the hotel every 20 min at a price of 0,4Euros. And even if you are dwelling in the city center you’ll need a taxi for your evening return, another situation 10 min from the city on a garden of 70000 square meters, 6 riads , suites from 44 square meters approximately, 4 pools, 4 restaurants, a spa garden view , kids club 1HK, 2 tennis courts and jocking. So must be chosen between the city center with the risk of noisy and the quietude and singing birds.
We regard the prices are well study and we take no obligation, you can eat at 5 Euros, it is obvious that you did not try the other 5 star prices to judge ours.
We hope that we well answer your comment and you thank you again for your remonad.

My wife and I have just returned from a 4-night stay at the Eden Andalous. Before we travelled I was a bit apprehensive due to some negative reviews on your website. Our experience is far from these negative ones. Checking in was a bit slow but hassle-free and even though we arrived a few hours earlier than normal check in time our room was made ready. The room was spacious, very clean, quiet and with a nice view. My wife and I have stayed in quite a few hotel rooms in our travels including 5* hotels in UK, Europe and USA and this Eden room measures up well . Although the staff didn't speak Queen's English all the staff we dealt with.... the bellboys, the Reception staff, the amiable and very helpful Guest Relations Manager Hannan, the waiters in the restaurants and in the Bar, the karaoke DJ in the Bar, the girls at the SPA ....could and did communicate satisfactorily in English so there was no complaint in that quarter either. The food was good..both breakfast and dinner. My wife had room service 1ce or 2ce and the service was also quick. We thoroughly enjoyed the massages (we had 3 consecutive daily sessions each as part of the booked package). We couldn't find any genuine faults/criticisms from our personal experience. One downside....some people may not like the out-o- town location and I can understand that. For us though it was no problem as we had retained the services of a taxi driver for the 5 days (which cost us a bargain fee of only Euro200 in ... less than it cost us to travel to and back from our UK Airport point). In summary we were so pleased with all aspects of our stay we plan to take the entire family and a couple of our friends over for my wife's next birthday in March 2012. That is as good an endorsement as you can get I think.
