“An oasis of calm and relaxation in the midst of the medina”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

My mother and I travelled to Marrakech for a 3 night stay, to fulfil a long-held dream of hers to experience the culture, people and food of this vibrant city. On my in-law's recommendation, I booked the Riad Elizabeth for our stay and for the 6 months preceding our trip, I received many useful and informative emails from the owners, John and Elizabeth, suggesting both trips that we may enjoy during our stay (which they booked for us), and promptly answering the many questions I had in a friendly and relaxed way. The riad is really a home from home. The staff are charming and happy to assist. One evening we arrived back fairly late and I mentioned that I was going to buy some water from the honesty bar on the roof terrace. The night watchman said he would get us water, and when we asked for large bottles, he disappeared off for about 10 minutes. We were chatting with some other guests, so didn't notice the delay until he re-appeared through the front door, having run to the local store to purchase large bottles for us - there were only small ones in the honesty bar! Talk about five star service! John and Elizabeth were gracious hosts, relaxed and friendly and full of stories of their time in Marrakech. The manager Samira was an angel, and was available all the time for restaurant recommendations (and bookings), taxi organising and to ensure our stay was living up to expectation. It certainly did, and more. The room (we stayed in Francesca, a twin room) was roomy and nicely decorated, as is the rest of the riad. A lovely bathroom with walk-in shower and fluffy towels. The chef served up a delicious meal our first night, as we arrived late, which was a great introduction to the local cuisine. All in all, a memorable experience, and one that I hope we will be repeating again. I would not hesitate to recommend Riad Elizabeth to anyone wanting to visit Marrakech, who wants to get immersed in the culture and people of the city, but still return to an oasis of calm and relaxation.

My wife and I recently stayed with friends for 4 nights. We were picked up from the airport and personally escorted to the riad by the driver. On arrival we were welcomed by Samira (a gem of a manageress)and offered refreshments before being shown to our room.
The riad is beautifully refurbished to a very high standard and is spotlessly clean. Our room overlooked a narrow street which is too narrow for cars and consequently quieter than you would expect in the centre of a bustling city. Our friends rooms were equally as nice as ours and possibly even quieter.
Our party went on may excursions which were all arranged prior to arrival by Elizabeth and John. We had excellent guides who were very knowledgable and spoke excellent English - well worth paying a little extra for.
Breakfast was served on the roof patio and every morning we were treated to a different array of goodies. Dinner was arranged for one special evening at the riad. What a wonderful experience ! It started in the morning by going to the butcher with Samira to buy the lamb and on the way picking up all the other ingredients to go in the tangier pot. We then watched the cooks preparing the dish and we the set off with our pots to go to the communal oven down the road. 6 hours later it was beautifully presented and thoroughly enjoyed.
Marrakech is fascinating, buzzing and suprisingly clean. Many places of historical interest and of course the souks, which remain unspoilt.
We shall definately return to Riad Elizabeth, you will find it hard to beat !

Room Tip: All the rooms appear to have every comfort one needs.

Down a typically Moroccan narrow alley is Riad Elisabeth. It opens into a carefully redone building with charm and integrity. The staff are exceptional and handled our various problems with patience and charm. The owners are genuine and genuinely helpful. Superb value for money.

Having read amazing reviews on Tripadvisor and seen both professional and tourist pictures of the Riad with all the positive reviews, We decided to book our ten night holiday in Marrakech at the Riad Elizabeth.

Upon booking, we received a lovely email from John and Elizabeth (the owners) confirming and thanking us for the booking. They also went to the effort of letting us know we could arrange a driver to collect us at the airport and included the price for this. On top of that, they enquired about our meal arrangements on arrival and informed us we could dine at the Riad itself which most guests did, or they would happily arrange and book a restaurant of our choice on our behalf. They also informed us of very popular tourist activities such as Hammams and Atlas mountain tours, and offered to book these on our behalf should we have desired. Their willingness to help, guide and make our stay most enjoyable was evident from the word go. We exchanged various emails before the trip and each email was extremely efficient, informative and reassuring - We felt like we knew them before even meeting them!

As arranged, our driver was at the airport on time waiting for our arrival. This service was very much appreciated by us as it eradicated the process of finding a taxi and bartering a fare. A point to note is, not all cabs are familiar with the Riad Elizabeth or the streets that can take you directly to the Riad so we would advise you take up the airport collection offer, as you are taken directly there and do not have to ask for directions (the possibility of getting lost is initially very high as there are numerous alleyways!)

At the Riad, we were greeted by John and Elizabeth who were so welcoming and very friendly. We were served Moroccan mint tea and pastries over a very relaxed conversation getting to know eachother a little as well as the place. It was quite a lovely experience to be meeted and greeted by the owners as traditionally in hotels, you don't get this kind of welcome and throughout your stay, you remain feeling like a stranger. This definitely wasn't the case at the Riad - we felt at ease instantly, both John and Elizabeth made us feel very comfortable and truly treated us as guests rather than paying customers.

Having been shown to our room by John who carried our luggage up, he gave us a quick tour of our room showing us where the safe was, how the A/C worked etc, and left us to soak in the atmosphere. The room was just lovely! There were rose petals everywhere - on the bed, on the bedside cabinets, in the bathroom - it was just so romantic! The decor and furnishing was a black and white contemporary theme (which is resonant all throughout the Riad) oozed sophistication and class, and with the added Moroccan touches such as the lighting, it was just stunning. Having rested and freshened up, Elizabeth gave us a tour of the Souks as mapped out in the map they provide, ensuring we knew how to travel to and fro from the Riad without getting lost. Initially it was a lot to take in but with Elizabeth herself showing us and with the help of our map, we had mastered our route! To go above and beyond the call of duty like this and take us round the Souks was just incredible and we couldn't be more grateful - John and Elizabeth were living up to all the expectations we had based on Tripadvisor!

We had dinner on our first night at the Riad on the rooftop and it was absolutely delicious! We were served a three course meal with tea and coffee - food consisted of lentils, salad, bread, chicken and pickle tagine with vegetable couscous and fresh fruits for dessert. We were stuffed! Bahija the cook, had set the standards high and we relished every bite! Our first day had drawn to a close and it was just amazing!

The Riad is a beautiful little place with the utmost cleanliness and hygiene levels. It is mopped, dusted and polished everyday by the staff and is kept in an immaculate condition at all times. It is such a tranquil place to come back to after the hustle and bustle of the Souks and the Medina, the serenity and peace is just amazing. The indoor pool is such a beautiful little area with the mirrored wall - the calmness of the atmosphere and the fresh decor is just so soothing, so relaxing.

The selling point for us was the timing of breakfast - there was no set time for breakfast! John and Elizabeth said they wanted their guests to see the Riad as their home and wanted to accomodate for their guests in whatever way they could and that meant serving breakfast to their guests at whatever time their guests awoke! This was great for us as we wanted a relaxing break with lie ins to escape our busy city schedules with very early starts - we most certainly appreciated this feature! Breakfast was always served on the rooftop very promptly - we were always served a fresh fruit salad with vanilla yoghurt and a fresh glass of orange juice to begin with which was then followed with a selection of bread, jam, margarine and varying cooked breakfasts from crepes to Moroccan omlettes, accompanied with tea/coffee. The breakfast was a hearty breakfast always and set us up well for the day ahead - the fruit salad in the heat was just delicious and so cooling and refreshing. Whilst having breakfast, our room would be made up by the staff, bathroom cleaned and towels changed as though we were never there! Another amazing feature of the Riad is the premise that it is built on - trust. We were told by John and Elizabeth that they and staff see it as a home and wanted us to see it as so too which meant we could trust to leave our possessions in the room unlocked, and go and have breakfast or go out for the day, and come back to find everything where we left it. This was the case from day one to day ten - nothing was ever lost or stolen and in fact on one occasion when something was left behind upstairs, Maryam (a member of staff) came and returned it to us. This level of honesty and trust at the Riad is just incredible, the place and the people at the Riad are just outstanding. Whilst having breakfast, we would be greeted by either Samira (the manager) or Elizabeth herself, enquiring about our day plans and ready and willing to help us book taxis, arrange dinner or anything else we needed, They were just so helpful and so willing to make things easy for us.

Riad Elizabeth is in a league of its own. It is a true sanctuary, a little piece of heaven with its stunning, clean, modern interior. However, what really makes it stand out is the high levels of service. Both John and Elizabeth as well as ALL staff, are just so so helpful, so kind, so welcoming, so friendly. They all go above and beyond the call of duty in accomodating their guests in every and whatever way possible - this level of service is just surreal. They are so professional and know when to step in and when not to - they have striked such a balance and are the epitome of what hospitality is about. I just can't say enough, everyone at the Riad made our stay such a special, memorable experience and We will cherish the memories forever. I would definitely recommend the Riad to everyone and hope to return one day.

Lovely comfortable riad well situated for the sights of Marrakech. Roof terrace was a great place to relax with sun beds and a shaded area. Excellent breakfast set us up for the day with fruit salad, eggs, pancakes yogurt, assorted bread and much more.
John and Elizabeth were particularly helpful, offering very useful advice. Samira the manageress was super efficient and organised a great trip to the Atlas mountains for us.
We were so well looked after. Thank you.

Both my partner and I spent three days at Riad Elizabeth after a busy meeting in Marrakech.
We think both John & Elizabeth have an outstanding talent for hospitality.
They zoom in and out on the right moments..have expertise, are entertainers in a modest way..
They have a small (trained) crew around them that can follow up with lovely cooking, arranging tickets, guiding or drives etc..
Next to that the rooms and house have a lovely atmosphere..A nice spot to relax from all the Marrakech impressions.
Just go there and experience it yourself!

The Riad was ideally located offering easy access to the Souks and main square. The staff and owners John and Elizabeth couldn't do enough for us during our stay. Restaurant reservations, taxis, tours etc were all taken care of with the utmost professionalism. The roof terrace offered a relaxing haven away from the hustle and bustle of the Medina. All in all a fantastic trip and a wonderful place to stay. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend .
