“Excellent and Memorable Stay in Marrakech”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

This was our first time in Marrakech and our first experience of riad style accommodation - we were not disappointed! The taxi met us at the airport and whisked us off on the short journey to the riad, he even accompanied us to the door. Once inside the cool black and white interior, our holiday experience began!
We were welcomed by Samira the manager, who gave us mint tea and Moroccan cookies to kick start our stay. Afterwards we were shown to our room - Lucy room - which had a lovely comfortable four-poster bed. The decor was simple and elegant, reminiscent of Morocco but with a modern flair. The standards of cleanliness were excellent. We loved Lucy as for us the two windows to the outside were perfect, and gave a lovely through breeze from the bathroom to the bedroom. This was great at night as we didn't need to use the air-conditioning. There is some noise in the alleys of the medina, but it is atmospheric and didn't disturb us at all, and to be expected from staying in this ancient part of the city.
The whole team led by John and Elizabeth were absolutely wonderful. As owners they are definitely in the right job. Their hands-on attentive style was welcoming and unintrusive - they were there when and if you needed them with helpful advice and tips. We looked forward to their breakfast round of the tables for a chat and any arrangements required for the day were dealt with efficiently. We even got a lift with Elizabeth when asking for a taxi - where would you get that kind of service other than here! We also enjoyed a lovely afternoon chat over a glass of wine with John and Lucy - the real-life namesake of our room! - which made us feel like we were in their home rather than just guests. Samira too was everything a manager should be, calm and efficient, nothing too much trouble from guiding us throught the labyrinthine alleys of the souk to organising taxis and a much appreciated late check-out.
We had dinner in the riad every night and shared a table with other guests on two occasions. Both occasions made for a very enjoyable evening of interesting conversation - one French and one English! Bahija's food was mouth-wateringly delicious! Her salads for starters, always varied, were so tasty and the tagines to die for with couscous that was so far removed from anything you would make yourself! The honesty bar was a great idea, with fridges stocked with great Moroccan wines, gin, vodka, beer and soft drinks. Again, this really made you feel at home as you could have a drink whenever the mood took you on the pretty roof terrace which we very often had to ourselves. Breakfast too was lovely and served in the open air. The food was varied each day and was light and tasty with fresh fruit, yoghurt and Moroccan breads. My husband liked an omelette every morning and this was done without fuss, even if it was not on the menu for that day.
The location was very convenient for the souks and the Djemma el Fna. We soon became familiar with the route through the souk after an initial guided tour with Samira. We were also able to walk to the Koutoubia and the new town, although this is a little way and not for the faint-hearted in the heat of the day. Taxis were ordered by Samira for forays a little further afield such as the Saadian Tombs and the Palace, but were cheap and even came back for us to a pre-arranged spot, waving at us like friends - thank you Omar!
In conclusion, we shall definitely be back and shall have no hesitation in recommending this riad to friends. Well done to the whole team!

Room Tip: We managed to sneak a look at all of the rooms and all were lovely. We did like Lucy the best for t...

My friend and I travelled to Marrakech at the start of July and don't have a bad word to say about this Riad.

We were understandably a little tentative about Marrakech, being two young girls alone. So the best part of our experience with the Riad was with regards to our SECURITY- firstly. we were escorted to and from a nearby restaurant. Then we were shown the route through the souks by John (who is completely delightful and really helpful). This was invaluable- we would NEVER have found our way through them comfortably without him! And the taxi driver used by the Riad, Omar, was incredible. He picked us up from anywhere and phoned the Riad to send someone to walk us through the alleys at night. Amazing.

John was great at helping us plan our days, booking restaurants for us and recommending places to visit. The French speaking staff were clearly lovely and very efficient.

In addition to this, the Riad itself was gorgeous. The rooms were modern, clean and had everything that we could have wanted. The breakfast was to die for. Honestly, I would go back just for the juice (nectar of the Gods).

I can't recommend this Riad enough, I really enjoyed every second of our visit to Marrakech and I am sure that we have John to thank for this.

Not only Is Marrakech a culturally enlightening place to have witnessed but my stay was made even more incredible at this beautiful Riad. Situated a stones throw from the Medina in the old town was brilliant, commuting wise, for seeing the highlights of the city . Traditional architecture and fittings combined with elegant touches. The staff were great and very accommodating. Highly recommended.

Cannot recommend this hotel enough! The staff was amazing in organising our trips with private tours to the Atlas Mountains available and taxi services to the new town on demand. It was lovely to have someone (usually the staff or the owner, John) who genuinely cared about what you were doing on a particular day and seeing how they could help i.e. booking a table for dinner. It was also great having an English owner of the hotel as you didn't feel lost in a sea of French speakers and you were easily understood about what you wanted/needed. The room (Alessia) was amazing with a HUGE bed and great bathroom and the air con was also a God send in the 40+ degree heat. The food was excellent when we ate at the hotel where we had an authentic Moroccan meal in traditional ceramic ‘plates’; we were also seated with other guests from the Riad. We sat with an Italian couple one night and another night with a fantastic Dutch couple whose English was impeccable and had recently moved to Berber country in the remote parts of Morocco so as you can imagine had interesting stories to tell. The breakfast was also refreshing with fresh fruit every morning and Moroccan pancakes or omelettes, teas and coffees were also available. Concerning drinks the Riad has an honesty bar that is so cheap there is no need to buy anything else. If you're looking for a great hotel in the heart of the Medina with easy access to the Museum of Marrakech and Ben Youssef Madrasa then this is the place. Just be careful as you will get lost in the Medina for the first few days! I can honestly say this Riad was one of the highlights of our holiday and made a potentially stressful experience of being in the Medina, relaxing.

Thank you to everyone at the Riad Elizabeth for an amazing holiday, hopefully see you soon!

We stayed at Riad Elizabeth for four days and had a wonderful time. The staff were amazingly helpful and the calm atmosphere was a contrast to the frenetic pace of the city. Nothing was too much trouble.
