“The best in Marrakech”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2011

My wife, Glenda, and I wanted to celebrate our silver wedding somewhere exotic (never having visited Africa before) and had been recommended to the Riad Elizabeth as being in a convenient location, having superior facilities and English-speaking staff. It certainly lived up to it's reputation and we were charmed to see "25" laid out on our bed in rose petals. The owners and staff made it so easy for us to explore the city and it's sights and gave us our first taste of home cooked Moroccan food on our arrival. Whatever we needed or enquired about was promptly dealt with and we felt we were treated not as guests but as friends. If we ever find another place like this we will be most surprised.

Room Tip: All rooms will give the traveller a true taste of Moroccan accommodation.

We enjoyed our stay at this riad during our recent trip! The management couldn't have been any more helpful. They offered dinner reservations - maps, guidance. The room was beautiful. Comfortable, nice linens, and great heaters which we appreciated since it was chilly! The location is perfect - we've been to Marrakesh several times before, but we will certainly make it a point to stay here when we return. I think people either really like Morocco or don't get it at all. There probably isn't much middle ground. One needs to travel with a sense of adventure and patience and understanding of other cultures. Without that - I think travellers come up with a myriad of complaints. No - it's not at all like the Holiday Inn at home. That's why I really like it!

We stayed at this charming Riad a couple of months ago and have only just got round to writing a review. I was very surprised to read '1 star location' review as our experience could not have been more different!! The Riad is in a great location - 5 minutes walk from the Museum and the Medersa (with its incredible Islamic architecture) and about 15 minutes to Jemaa el Fna through the fascinating souks, depending on how long you spend in the latter! The Riad was also very near to one of the best restaurants we have ever been to (Le Foundouk) and you are escorted home through the narrow streets by lantern. The fascination of travel for us is to go somewhere where you experience different cultures and see the real place (you can sit in a room and watch TV anytime!) and Marrakech is certainly different. The Riad is a very welcome and relaxing haven after exploring the sights and the staff are really obliging, bringing tea or drinks as we unwound on the roof terrace. The rooms are very chic but also comfortable and the beds have firm mattresses & lovely cotton sheets (no poly here!) - we slept like logs. Le Foundouk may have been one of the best restaurants we ate in but the best meal was the one waiting for us on our first night when we arrived from the airport.....the tastiest starters you could imagine followed by a delicious traditional Moroccan tagine (they even provided it onion-free as I am allergic to onions!). Elizabeth, John & Kamal were very informative and gave great advice on where to go, what to see etc and arranged various things for us that all turned out to be just what we had asked for. Marrakech is so different from anywhere we have ever been before and it is an 'assault' on the senses - sights, sounds etc - the Riad was a brilliant place & an ideal base from which to explore the city and which we looked forward to getting back to at the end of the day. Definitely we will stay there again.

Room Tip: All look lovely - as they look on the website.

From the moment I made contact with Riad Elizabeth to the moment we left we were looked after brilliantly and made to feel so welcome. John and Elizabeth were very helpful during the booking process, particularly as our booking was not straight-forward due to the need for a replacment passport to arrive. Once we arrived and met Kamal .........well what can I say.....I don't think I have ever felt so relaxed and looked after in any hotel I have ever stayed in. Dinner on the rooftop terrace on our first night was very special - the food was great and what can be wrong with sitting out on a terrace on a November evening. We stayed 5 nights altogether in the Olivia Room. On each of those nights Kamal suggested restaurants (Farandouk, Le Comptoir and Cafe en Poste and advised us on how to approach dining in the Night Market). The Comptoir was our personal favourite (and that wasn't just the belly dancers) but all were very good and the Night Market is an experience not to be missed. Nothing was ever too much trouble - from organising taxis to booking a spa and suggesting cafes for lunch it felt like we could leave our brains in England and just get on with relaxing.

We can't wait to go back to visit wonderful Marrakech and Riad Elizabeth and at the end of the day that's the best recommendation and we have raved about it to all our friends. Maybe next time James will sell me on for 200 camels!!

Room Tip: All the rooms looked great. We stayed in Olivia room which was very spacious.

We sayed at Elzabeth Riad for 8 nights and had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay.
The staff were friendly and helpful and John and Elizabeth made us most welcome.
We had an excellent Moroccon meal our first night and John recommended some wonderful places to eat nearby.
The map which was provided by the hotel was easily the best map of Marrakesh and saved us from getting completely lost on more than one occasion.
The decor in the Riad is lovely, the roof terrace very relaxing.
We will recommend Riad Elizabeth to all our friends.

I stayed at Riad Elizabeth for 8 days in October while attending a conference in Marrakech. The Riad definitely lived up to its well-deserved reputation. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful in every way, the food was excellent, the beds were super comfortable and the rooftop terrace and its honour bar were great. The Riad was quiet at night and is only a 10 minute walk to the Souks and the main square. I will definitely return to Riad Elizabeth on my next visit to Marrakech.

We had a great time in Marrakech and would definitely recommend Riad Elizabeth to stay in. Good communications throughout the booking process and very well looked after during our stay there, thanks to Kamal and Elizabeth and the girls who work at the place. Very friendly and a family-like atmosphere.

If you're a first timer, opt for airport transfers as the place can be a little hard to find.
