My partner and I had booked 3 nights in the Riad L'Orchidee and upon arrival at the airport we were met by our taxi driver for our prebookwd transfer to our Riad (recommended if this is your first visit to the city and you ate staying in the old town). Upon arrival at the Riad it was clear that we had been taken to a sister Riad rather than the one we had booked but we were happy with this as this one was just as nice as the one we had booked online. We were met by Ahmed who was very helpful and showed us around the Riad and gave us some tips when being out and about. We stayed on the first floor which was a lovely morrocan themed room that had a double and single bed, separate bathroom and toilet and upstairs access to your own terrace. I was so quiet and peaceful. We were told that our first venture out to the main square (about 10-15min walk) that Omar would accompany us so we didn't get lost, I had read previously how easy it is to lose your way through the medina and endless souks and I am so glad we followed Omar closely that day as he pointed out reminders to make our way back a little less confusing as maps of the area don't really reflect what you are experiencing. Breakfast at the riad were served between 7.30am and 10.30am and served with a smile by the lovely female host. It consisted of fresh tea and coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, selection of breads and pastries and either warm pancakes or warm morrocan flatbreads...delicious. The square is as busy by day as it is by night. ...it has a great atmosphere with the hustle and bustle with snake charmers, spice stalls, orange stalls (4dhm per glass) and just about anything and everything that can be sold from carpets, shoes to remote controls. It really is a fascinating city and we'll worth the visit. For those looking for a drink other that mint tea, coffee etc...Kosybar is about a 5-10 min walk from the square beside palace bahia. ..it's a lovely bar that sells a wide selection of beers, spirits and cocktails. Bottle of San Miguel 330ml was 75 dhms....cocktails were 80 dhms upwards. We also found another bar again about 10 mins from the square on the road towards the old town...it's was a restaurant bar and offered draught local beer called flag for a cheap price for a pint...50 dhms !!! This place is a few mins from the horse and carriage area towards the new town across from the start of cyber park. All in all we had a lovely trip to marrakech made even better by our stay at our tranquil riad. The city itself really is like taking a step back in time and for that I really did enjoy its authenticity ☺
