We loved our stay at Tigmi Talbourht, a charming, relaxing and peaceful retreat that provides a complete contrast to bustling Marrakech.
The house is built in traditional Moroccan style and tastefully decorated throughout. It is located in a small and fairly remote village, a little over 20km from the city in the foot hills of the Atlas mountain. A bus route into Marrakech is about a ten to fifteen minute walk from the house. Taxis can also be booked, although not cheap.
French speaking owner Olivia provides a warm welcome and makes you feel very much at home. Tigmi has just 5 rooms, so is smaller and more intimate than a hotel. Guests have free use of most of the house and garden. Permanent residents include two very friendly dogs and a number of elusive cats.
The bedrooms each have their own outdoor entrance, and all are individually decorated; simple, comfortable and clean. Some have en suite bathrooms (note: no door between our bedroom and bathroom!) with basics such as towels and soap provided. Bring your own shampoo and other toiletries.
Home-cooked, French-Moroccan meals are available. Breakfast included a wide selection of home-made breads, pancakes and jams. We thought the food was excellent.
Outside there is a small pool set in an attractive, large garden. The house contains a sizeable dining/living room, with a separate television room. There is also a lovely roof terrace offering views over the village towards the Atlas mountains.
