“A nice place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2011

We stayed here for 5 nights over Christmas. The Riad is very nice... a real oasis of calm, very nicely decorated and a really nice room. The sofa area with TV and fireplace was very nice. The staff were very lovely, the breakfast was great, and the free airport transfer was really great!! The location is not in the center, but its not too far to walk anywhere, and we found some fantastic places to eat nearby (including one in a small street parallel to the riad).

Went for a four day break and the place was amazing. Centrally located and whilst practical in terms of being central and close to the attractions and medina, it was also very peaceful and quiet at nights.

The staffwere very friendly and breakfast was "when we wanted it" what more could you ask for ?

Rooms are all wonderful and all have a quaint and unique style - very tastful and well appointed. Beds of good quality as was the linen and towels etc.

Lovely terrace for either sunbathing ( which I did in December) and if you would like to have breakfast on.

In summary the owners Stephane and Sylvie are so friendly and helpful. You could not ask to meet a nicer couple - Nothing was too much trouble and I certainly had some enjoyable dialgue with Stephane who speaks perfect English !

Would thoroughly recommend it as a place to stay as convenient to all the attractions.

We arrived at an unmarked door in the Medina not knowing if we had found the right riad. As soon as the door opened and we entered we found a charming and tranquil oasis in the busy city. The owners were kind, hospitable and helpful and we enjoyed our 5 night stay very much.

The riad is a very nice place to stay and the service is fine. The rooms are a mix of Moroccan influences and modern design and feel cosy and romantic. The air-conditioning is working well (no key-card or something required), but there is no TV. The owner Stephane is very friendly and always willing to help you with restaurant recommendations, excursions and transfers. The rooftop terrace is a nice place for breakfast, a drink or for a relaxing moment. There is a jacuzzi, but it is not very often used I guess (when we turned it on, there was an explosion of chloride and dirt). The hotel is very close to the Bahia Palace and a 10 – 15 min walk to the Djemaa El Fna square. To get to the hotel you have to walk for 2 – 4 min through some narrow and sometimes quite alleys. Although, Marrakech is a pretty safe city, it could feel a bit scary at night especially for female travellers, because some parts of the alley are not well lighted. Overall, you will get a lot of value for you money!

The riad is very well located. It is a new restored riad, which mices the old and the new. You've got an excellent 360º view from its terrace to all the Medina, this is due to its height. The rooms we stayed in were big, clean and comfortable. The owner, Stephane, gave us the possibility to have the breakfast on the roofterrace, we enjoyed it even more due to its views. An absolute thrill in a positive sense is visiting the Plaza Djemaa el-Fna! You ain't seen Marrakech if you haven't had a meal over there....

The Doucier Mandarine is situated in the perfect location -just a few minutes walk through the cobbled streets from the hustle and bustle of the main square. The riad is a stark contrast to the city, as it is remarkably serene and is in immaculate condition. Built only a few years ago, it has 5 rooms separated by a light and airy atrium; a lot more spacious than we expected for the capacity. There is a beautiful roof terrace where we enjoyed breakfast each morning and also a couple of meals at night. The food was marvellous. We’d recommend eating in the hotel for a night. As we stayed for a week, when it got too hot in the afternoons, my girlfriend lounged on the terrace while I caught a bit of the world cup in the lounge downstairs. Stephane and Sylvie, the owners were incredibly helpful and friendly, and all of the staff, despite our atrocious french were very nice indeed. Stephane himself speaks perfect English so any confusion was quickly sorted out. They really couldn’t have accommodated to our needs any more. A driver was arranged to collect us from the airport which saved the hassle of instantly bartering for a taxi. Another bonus was the a/c in the room worked really well. Overall we had a marvellous time.

My partner and I stayed at the Riad Douceur Mandarine during our first visit to Marrakech. The riad itself was absolutely beautiful and far nicer in reality than it looked in the photos when we booked - and it looked really nice in them! The staff at the Riad couldn't do enough for us and even laid on a complimentary home-cooked meal one evening. Despite other guests staying in the Riad at the same time, it all felt very private and we were lucky to have the roof terrace/pool to ourselves for most of our stay. Even when there were other guests using the facilities, the layout of the place meant that we didn't feel imposed on or imposing! Location-wise, it's at the bottom of the Medina which is a great location, with the souks, main square, bahia palace and various other places of interest in walking distance. We were also able to walk to the Ville Nouvelle (new town) from the Riad, although this is quite a long way, but there is a taxi rank within a 5 minute walk from the Riad and so we never had any problems getting around - just make sure you agree the taxi price before you get in! The Riad is owned by a french couple and whilst he spoke great english, his wife and the rest of their staff did not. Thankfully, between my GCSE french and an iPhone translator app, we all managed to communicate ok and it certainly didn't have any negative impact on our stay. Would definitely recommend.
