“Lovely Riad - Great Hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Riad Douceur Mandarine is a haven from the full-on assault of the senses that is Marrakech. No matter which member of staff opens the door when you return after an exhausting days haggling in the Souks you will be greeted with a smile and a friendly Bonjour/Bon Soir!

We recommend that unless you're an experienced traveller in this part of the World that you ask Stéphane and Sylvie to book a taxi to collect you from the airport because the Riad is hard to find. On arrival in the city the taxi driver parked as close as he could and led us through the narrow streets to the door. On our return trip to the airport the taxi company even sent a porter with a trolley for our suitcases!

Our family had two rooms. We would recommend being upstairs if you prefer more privacy and less noise. The rooms were stylishly decorated, the showers were powerful and always hot and bathrobes and toileteries were provided.

On our first night we had booked dinner at the Riad and this was cooked by the lovely Bouchra. We had three courses which included a superb lemon chicken tagine and a surprisingly good bottle of Moroccan red wine. We felt the meal was good value and eating in on your first night makes things a lot less stressful.

We found the breakfasts to be plentiful and an effort was made to vary each day's offering. We were also offered eggs and yoghurt in addition to the bread and pastries.

Nothing is too much trouble for Stéphane and Sylvie. They were always on hand at breakfast time and offered lots of helpful advice and recommendations.

Sylvie arranged for my wife to have a body scrub and massage in the riad's own hammam. This was much less scary than going to a local one! She was gone for ages and returned saying that she'd never felt so smooth, clean and relaxed! She felt it was good value, especially with the mint tea and Moroccan pastries afterwards!

We had a fantastic day trip to the mountains with a great guide, Adil and this can be booked through the Riad. We would definitely recommend this as it was one of the highlights of our trip.

The Riad is in a good position and although you might feel a little intimidated to start with you soon realise that the locals are friendly and you are unlikely to be hit by a scooter if you keep your wits about you!

“Very nice and cozy place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

Choosing this riad in place of a hotel was a very good idea. This is my second visit to marrakech and my first riad experience. I liked it and I wont hesitate to do it again. The riad is in the old city, the house was clean and traditional. The roof is a very goodplace to take breakfast and to relax in case it was a sunny day. The room was confortable and something special was the bedsheet and the mattress were exceptional !
The staff were very nice , we met bouchra that welcomed us with moroccan tea. The next day we met Stephan that made sure that everything was fine .
The cons:
The place is a little bit overpriced so we couldnt try their meals and massage.
In the bathroom there no bath curtain and the electricity was unprotected so this s a safety concern that I think was the main cons of that place.

Would definitely do it again and recommend it for others!

Room Tip: We were in Saada room and I recommend it, I dont know abt the other rooms

“Amazing & Unforgettable trip in Marrakech”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

Just got back from a beautiful 5 days in Marrakech. The Riad was the best part of the trip. it was like a home away from home. Stephane and Sylvie were brilliant & the Riad is a true secret of the Marrakesh. its right in the middle of the craziness that is the Medina and the main square is a comfortable 10 minute walk away. watch out for the scooters and the constant call of the shop owners. never buy at the first shop you see and always start bargaining at half the price quoted by the shop keeper.
If you want some winter sunshine and wish to see some clear blue skies this is the place to go, and this Riad is awesome with its roof terrace which is a dream sun catcher.
The trip arranged to the Atlas mountains by the raid, was spectacular and Not to be missed.
I cannot recommend this Riad highly enough, I am a constant traveller and cannot remember the last time I enjoyed the accommodation so much and where I felt so welcome.
The breakfast provided was varied and interesting and the staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you.

“Great place, unfriendly host”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

If you are fancy arab ambience and narrow street, Riad Douceur Mandarine is a great place to stay. The access alleys look like a place you would't go at night, but don't worry - you are safe and sound at all times. The area has a great charm when the lights are on.
Our room faced a tiny atrium in the centre of the house as is normal in arab cities. Hence no view from the window, only looking stright up into the smy or down into the breakfast area. Everything was very neat and clean.
The breakfast was OK, but not abundant. The host turned on a heater then it was too chilly.
Well, the French/Morrocan host actually annoyed us a bit. We probably annoyed him as well in that we did not want to buy any of his expensive sightseeing tours. When we asked him where we could park our hired car he more or less told us that we were crazy and that we would never manage to drive anywhere in Marrakech. But eventually he did tell us where to park, and after collecting the car we found the right places, five minutes walk from the Riad. You can't drive any closer, so trying to drive here straight from the airport is maybe not the best idea.

“Beautiful haven.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

Stayed 3 nights in this beautiful Riad in Marrakech medina and couldn't recommend it higly enough. It was like a god-send to step into this calm and peaceful haven after the crazy streets of the medina. The Riad is so tastefully decorated in traditional moroccan fashion and was such a relaxing place to end our Moroccan trip. The staff are so helpful and made our stay one to remember. Thank you.
