“Best bar in the medina”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

After a few days in Marrakech looking for somewhere to enjoy a drink, we found this place. It was just what we were looking for, calm relaxing great atmosphere and the drinks were cheaper than some gritty places we'd found round jemaa el fna! Definitely going back before we leave.

“Not our cup of tea”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

We were recommended to go to Cafe Arabe, nearby to our riad. I'm afraid it was not our "cup of tea".
The staff seemed surly and uninterested. It was in our opinion overpriced.
We needed a quick lunch as we had an appointment to get to. We explained this to the waiter, he nodded but still we waited more than 1/2hr for a bow of soup!!! Each time a waiter walked past we tried to get their attention but we were totally ignored. Our soup arrived when we made it obvious that we were about to leave. I asked for the bill as soon as our soup was served. It still had not been brought over to us when we had finished. There was our waiter leaning against the bar, chatting. Not good.
I think if you like to think you are someone "special" and have all day to sit back and relax over lunch with a bottomless wallet, then you will enjoy Cafe Arabe and will perhaps be treated a lot better than we were. Definitely not for us though. Sorry to give such a low rating but this our honest opinion.

“Great roof top for wine or cocktails”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

The medina has few bars but this ones a star, close to the souq and selling nice wine and amazing cocktails we visited. Few times in our trip! The bar has a bit of life with many people comparing souq haggling successes/ failures over a nice and reasonably price bottle of wine! The nuts and bread sticks are also delious although the olives are awful! Great place to unwind after shopping!

“Average service on a quiet night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

Maybe it was because it was a quiet night, but the service was so laid back it was almost non-existent. The two waiting staff seemed more interested in chatting to each other. We sat in the first courtyard downstairs, which is very pretty, but it was a bit too dark to see what we were eating. Probably better for a romantic meal, than a meal with your sister! The warm aubergine salad starter I had was not bad (but very richly flavoured with vinegar), and the Pastilla (a pie of chicken, not pigeon, with almond) was tasty. In hindsight it would have been better to have eaten the two together as the tartness of the aubergine would have balanced the sweetness of the pie. My sister had the couscous salad (very average) and lamb tagine. The meat was good, but the sauce very sweet due to the caramelised onions. Not the worst meal I've eaten, and the Moroccan wine was pleasant and reasonably priced. I think with a bit of effort this could be a good restaurant. I do think they need to reconsider the entrance hall - it's dark gloom and glass is reminiscent of an 80's nightclub and out of keeping with the pretty interiors.
