“Wonderful, just wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2011

This place is a real gem, the pool was very welcome in the heat! We unfortunately spoke very little French which made it a bit of a struggle at times as the owners didn't speak much English. It was also really really hard to find. If this is the only place you are staying then I would urge you to pay the money for an airport transfer, it's 20 Euro which in comparison to the little taxi's is expensive but well worth it as the last part of your journey is on foot! So take my advice and get the transfer! The room was very clean and really beautiful, having breakfast on the roof terrace was lovely and very cheap too. The evening meal we had was also really really tasty if a little expensive in comparison to eating in the Place Jemaa El Fna.

“A jewel in the hustle and bustle of Marrakech.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2011

We stayed at this Riad for 7 days. It is a very pretty, clean guesthouse. Each bedroom is individually named and styled.

The staff made it extra special, they did speak some English, however, French was the easiest way to communicate. They were very helpful and looked after us, in particular when I got ill for 2 days.

The review stating that it is far from the centre of town is incorrect. Marrakech has 3 main ‘central’ areas, The Ville Nouvelle, Place Djemaa El (Main Market/Terrace Restaurants) and The Mellah (Jewish Area/Kasbah). The Riad is located about 7 mins from the Souqs, 12-15 mins from Place Djemaa El and 15-20 mins from the Mellah. If you want to stay in one of the large hotels next to McDonalds, Zara, and the large international shops then this Riad is about 50 mins walk away from this area. However, if you want to have a real Moroccon feel to your holiday then The Riad Hadika Maria is ideal.

The breakfasts were lovely and although we didn’t eat dinner at the hotel they can provide you with a Moroccon style meal. I would recommend booking the airport transfer for arrival as the Riad is not on a main road, once you are there though they will give you a map of the area and it is hard to get lost when following it.

Our only criticism would be that the walls were quite thin and depending on your neighbours in the next room you could hear sometimes.

All in all I would have no qualms recommending this hotel to anyone. It is a jewel in heat and bustle of Marrakech. I loved it and if we go back to Marrakech we will be staying here again.

Room Tip: just ask, they do their best

“Wonderful Riad!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2011

My friend and I had a wonderful time in Marrakech and a big part of that was down to the Hadika Maria. The staff are extremely helpful, walking us to local restuarants and helping with directions etc- they speak very little English but we were able to get by in our dodgey French- but if you speak no French at all you might struggle! We had the airport transfer which I would recommend because the riad is a 5 minute walk from the nearest road access so you will need someone to guide you.

The riad itself is beautiful and very original, there are lots of lovely places to sit and relax...the pool area is particularly stunning. Our room was also beautiful with a lot of attention to detail.

The breakfast was good, bread, pancakes and fresh orange juice and coffee- we didn't ever manage to have an evening meal because we preferred to venture out into the medina (!)

On the slightly negative side the location might be scary for some less intrepid travellers and I definately wouldn't want to stay there as a solo traveller! To get back there from the Souks and the main square is tricky (easy when you know how, we figured it out after getting lost a lot, but that's part of the fun!) and involves some rather poorly lit passageways and tunnels...though to be honest, because the riad is so wonderful it is worth it!

On a couple of mornings we were woken up by the staff in the riad shouting ( actually talking but just very loudly!). This wasn't a major problem but it was a little annoying.

We also had a bit of hassle from the children playing in the street in the immediate vacinity of the riad, but I guess this is typical of most of Marrakech...worth knowing though, they are not as innocent as they look!

Overall though, the place far exceeded my expectations, it was an amazing place to stay.

Room Tip: Each room has it's own name and theme!

“Great service and Great Riad”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2011

Riad was as good as all the reviews we had read, did not dissapoint. Staff were excellent and unobtrusive. Would recommend transfer from airport and meal first night as we did, to at least have a stress free start to stay, if you have never visited Marrakech like us before.
