“A real gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

An absolutely gorgeous riad in the medina. The food is delicious served on the roof terrace.
We stayed in the Aliya suite which was enormous and beautifully decorated in traditional Moroccan style.
All the staff were brilliant and so friendly,Karine (the manager) was most helpful and informative on which sights to see and gave us detailed instructions on which way to go so we didn't get lost (which is quite easy to do in the Souks but that is half the fun!)
The riad is in a perfect location. When leaving the riad you can either turn left and wander through the souks to Djemaa El-fna square, which takes about 20 mins of slow strolling through the souks,or you can turn right and walk about 500 mtrs to the road which loops around the medina and follow this to the main square (about 10 mins walk). We found that walking back to the riad at night it was easier to come back on the road from the main square as it is so easy to get lost in the souks on the way back (everywhere just looks the same).
Overall we cannot recommend Riad Idra highly enough. You really should stay here when in Marrakes

My husband and I along with another couple just returned from a 12-day trip to Morocco. Of the six hotels we stayed at, nothing beat Riad Idra. Its open-air atrium with clean white marble floors, wading pool and lush greenery populated with chirping birds was a welcome home after spending a hot day in the maze of the Marrakech Medina. Our room was clean and well appointed with tasteful, authentic Moroccan items. The food was ridiculously good (with the exception of the eggs at breakfast). And best of all, its size and incredibly attentive staff made for a personable and homey stay. I would recommend this place without reservation to even the pickiest traveler.

Dear Jennifer, Dear Larry,

Thank you very much for having taken the time to share your opinion about you recent stay at Riad Idra.
It was a pleasure welcoming you and your friends, Ben and Sue, in our Riad.
When we refurbished the whole house, 2 years ago, we really wanted to honor and to highlight the Moroccan culture trough its art and handicraft. That’s why all our rooms are generously decorated with traditional wooden and metal crafts and oriental paintings.
We really look forward to your next visit.
All the best !

We were in Morocco for 11 days and stayed at 8 different hotels. Riad Idra was the only place we truly felt at home.

Loved this place the second we walked into the courtyard, all my family members asked me why hadn't we stayed here when we first arrived.

Its elegancy and beauty is beyond description. On top of all its artistic elements, it was SUPER CLEAN. So clean that a neat freak like me dared to use the towels provided, and felt at ease to place them on any surface in the room (couldn't do this in the other 7 hotels)

Even better, Riad Idra provided mint tea and snack on arrival, fresh flowers, a platter of Moroccan snack and water in the chamber. Traditional leather slippers and quality toiletries in the bathroom could be taken away as souvenirs.

The whole place was softly-lit by beautiful lanterns at night. Dinner was delicious, served on the rooftop terrace which was extremely romantic.... too bad we were with my parents =p

We got almost half price off as a special promotion on cheaptickets, but we would seriously consider paying the full price to stay here again.

PS) Special thanks to the "skinny but tough" Omar who took good care of us during our stay~ And a million thanks to Karine who allowed us to delay our stay by one night because of the changed itinerary.

Room Tip: as there were four of us, they arranged us the Basma and Warda which were joint rooms and separated...

Wow is all I can say. Writing this while still in the Riad Idra but felt I needed too due to the thoughtless bafoon who wrote the last review giving one star, they could not have stayed at this Riad as what they mention is all opposite to this one, it must be heart wrenching for the staff here after all their efforts to impress and make your stay pleasurable.
Trust me listen to what I have to say.

We were Collected from the Airport via Idras own taxi, cases walked to the door and what a pleasure we found behind it. Greated with smiles, mint Tea and damp flannels to freshen up great start. Karene is an amazing & careing manager where nothing is too much trouble. Room is spacious and clean with lovely leather slippers for us to keep. We spent lazy hours sun bathing on the roof terrace on lovely loungers, drinks brought to us.
Breakfast was a feast for your eyes and tummy. Lovely open spaces and chill out rooms to relax all over this Riad.
Maybe if you book request Karene put an itinary together for you would make your stay even more enjoyable.
I guarentee this place is a sensory chill out and relaxation.
Well done to all the staff 5 *****.
Would definitely book here on our next visit to Marrakech.

Despite the efforts of Karine and the staff during our stay at Riad Idra, we were not at all at ease because of the limited dimensions of the riad itself and our room also, with too many furniture, a bit suffocating. The riad lacks of interest, because very little of the original traditional elements has been kept during the renovation and our expectations to try an orientalist atmosphere, totally unfulfilled.. In few words we were completely disappointed.

Riad Idra completely lived up to and then exceeded our expectations. We stayed for 3 nights and it was amazing from the moment we arrived until we left. Karine and the other staff were welcoming, friendly, attentive and knowledgable. The courtyard and terrace are beautiful and our room was spacious and comfortable.
The breakfasts were delicious and the weather was so lovely we were able to have it up on the terrace each morning. We also had a very enjoyable dinner on our first evening.
Nothing was too much trouble and we really benefitted from all Karine's recommendations for places to go, to experience, and to eat.
We took the opportunity to experience a Moroccan hammam and massage. You MUST try this. Go with an open mind and you'll enjoy it!
I really can't think of any way our trip could have been improved. Marrakech was crazy and fun, a real experience and I am so glad we stayed here as it made the trip even more memorable.

It is rare that I find a hotel where it is tempting to never to leave the room. The Riad Idra is beautifully designed by the talented owners and is a short walk from most of the main sites - including being close to the huge markets (that are very easy to get lost in!).

On arrival I was given some lovely tea and traditional sweets. The room, overlooking the stylish courtyard, was generous in size and had everything you could need. Fresh flowers, a plate of savoury snacks and a bottle of water are a few of the touches to expect. The bed was fantastic, and the bathroom was also large in size and included those extras to make the a stay that little bit more pleasant.

The room was well air conditioned, which is especially important in Marrakesh in the warmer months. The towels were fantastic - with free traditional slippers thrown in. There was a good range of stations on the generously sized TV, plus the option to borrow DVDs or books from the lovely lounge downstairs. The room has lovely art and furnishings.

I had breakfast - which is fantastic - each day on the sunny roof terrace. The service is friendly, professional and very helpful.

Would happily go back to the Idra.
