“Relaxing resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

Just got back from our holiday The Eldorador is a nice hotel it is very clean and our room was comfortable. The food was good and staff were friendly although we did find it difficult at times to communicate as most of them only spoke French.. There is 2 swimming pools one which had the animation team organising games for the more energetic and then the other pool which was quiet and relaxing. There was only a couple of things, although ( didn't spoil our holiday) one was that at meal times all the signs for the food were in French which as a vegetarian was a bit difficult for me to decide what it actually was but my husband had just about everything and he enjoyed it. The other thing was the bar at the pool drinks were in small very flimsy plastic kids party cups. The location was in the middle of nowhere I think there was a shuttle bus into town but we did not use this as we were just there for a relaxing week by the pool. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family for a quiet relaxing stay. A couple of tips change your money back to your local currency before going through to departures as we could not find a bureau de change after that and the duty free shop would not accept Moroccan dirham The other thing is buy your duty free in the international (blue) duty free shop we found it cheaper than the other shop. If your French is really good you would enjoy this hotel.

OK - if you like everything to be as if you we're in England but with the sun, this is probably not the place for you. This is a primarily French occupied resort, with some dutch and Italian. I have some French, my husband very little - did this impair our experience? To the contrary we enjoyed learning more and found both staff and guests engaging and eager to try and communicate.

Facilities - excellent. Rooms very clean, beds good and firm, so we slept well (and I sleep very badly normally). The decor is stylish and contemporary with some wonderful tiling, light fixtures, fabrics and furnishings - more boutique than hotel so lovely.

As for the food - yum yum! We ate like royalty - the foods were excellent with wonderful variety. The wines were of a high quality and the snacks really scummy ( but not crisps and the like but olives, French stick and toppings etc).

The Animation team were the best we have ever seen. They were very involved, worked very long hours but above all were skilful in their own areas of expertise. The range of activities spans dance, aqua gym, archery, pétanque, football, trapeze - so much fun. Each evening there were quizzes, cabaret, music, and lots of dancing. We did smile at the seeming addiction to line dancing but it was fun.

The setting is rather like an oasis. It is some 20 minutes from the Medina but there is a regular free shuttle bus and the driver was a real hoot. The gardens are lovely and the lake has geese and frogs - the geese can be territorial so take care! The gardens include extensive herb gardens so the food and drinks are well served with fresh produce.

Would we go again? In a blink of the eye. It is the best experience we have had at an all inclusive venue. Best of all - no plastic bracelets which I dislike and always get caught up in the shower!

Fabulous Hammam too - very reasonable and excellent experience.

So I would recommend this venue if you like quality and are not off put by language differences.

This was such a fantastic break! I have never been so relaxed in all my life! Staff were fantastic and although the guests were predominantly french everyone I met was lovely. Not the sort of place if you want to be a yob! It is quiet, cultured and the food was to die for! The pools are lovely especially the zen pool! Rooms very clean, clean crisp cotton sheets daily. I cant wait to return.

My wife and I booked for 5 days. The overall cleanliness and food are reasonably good but it was unfortunate that our travel agent did not say that it was a resort where predominately french speaking people went on holiday . As a result being english speaking we felt really alienated to the point where it really was not enjoyable and honestly staff were rude and unhelpful

This is a fabulous Hotel which will captivate you as soon as you enter the reception area. You will instantly be taken back by the fabulous character of the decoration which continues throughout the hotel and rooms. The Hotel clients are mainly quiet cultured French Nationals and the food and entertainment is catered mainly for them however this is not a negative. The French are warm and will engage with you however the language barrier does become a slight barrier so learn some French phrases. They have a love of dancing so be prepared to participate in the dancing with the children taught by the energetic Animation team who seem to work 24/7 with huge smiles.
The Hotel has lovely outdoor eating areas in the garden which provides a more restaurant feel and you escape the two indoor canteen areas. If you tip a waiter at the start of your stay he will reserve a table and he will become your personal butler and nothing will be too much trouble. You will be overwhelmed and insist on tipping him at the end. You may never queue for a drink as well and your glass will automatically be topped up. Beware , if you are the stereo typical British loud mouthed Chav who is a fussy eater who survives on pie and chips. You will be hugely disappointed. An abundance of olives , salads, Moroccan Tangine, Chicken supreme , Lamb and fresh fish is the menu for the week. The bread and rolls are to die for and the Pastry Chef provides such a variety of desserts day and night to a high standard . This is the most relaxing Hotel I have ever stayed in. Lots of sofas for sleeping on with fab piped music through BOSE speakers . The mood lighting in the bar illuminates the high ceilings and archways to create a positive ambience. If you occasionally Tip the barmen then you will never leave your seat to go to the bar . I will certainly be returning to this Hotel again and i strongly recommend it to those cultured Brits.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

We stayed in room number 1156 from the 25th April - 2nd May 2013. The hotel itself is situated 30-40 mins away from the airport and about 20 mins from the city center of Marrakech. I stayed with my girlfriend for the week and we didn't take my children. There are some real positives and negatives about this hotel. First the negatives:

The hotel itself is French with 90-95% of the guests staying there being french. We saw two English couples there during our whole stay out of 100's of guests. The hotel itself has no carpets in the hallways and because of this can be very noisy during the mornings when children are up and are running the length of the corridors. Because of this it is virtually impossible to sleep in past 8-9 am. The sound can echo off the walls and boom around the hotel and probably isn't the right choice if you are looking for a hotel where you can stay up past midnight and have a lazy morning the following day. The pillows were very hard and uncomfortable and the beds weren't the softest. Needless to say it isn't the right choice for light sleepers. Again due to the design of the hotel the walls seem to be very thin and the maids can be heard scraping the chairs around on the floors of other rooms in the mornings. This can be so loud some mornings that it is impossible to get back to sleep. This could have easily been resolved by the cleaners simply lifting the chairs when they clean. Instead the sound echo's throughout the hotel. The water from the taps in the bathroom came out at a ridiculously slow rate, sometimes to the point where it was easier to fill the sink with water just to do your teeth.

The WIFI is only in the reception area of the hotel. Its very unusual in that at some points in the day there seemed to be 3-4 different WIFI hot spots and at other times there was only 1? Sometimes our phones wouldn't allow us to connect to the networks and sometimes they would. This seemed to be completely random? The signal strength was very intermittent, ranging from full strength to completely dropping out within the same minute or two. The speed was also very slow on whatever hot spot we used. This was very annoying, especially when all we were trying to do was upload some pics to Facebook of some of the amazing places we had visited.

The only way to describe the food was strange. My girlfriend and I love to try different countries foods and cultures but have never seen carrot and beetroot juice for breakfast?? The food was very obviously catered for the french with a massive amount of pastries. There always seemed to be a large queue for omelettes with only two people serving a large amount of guests. This could have easily been resolved by having 4-5 chefs. There was always plenty to choose from but always an extremely odd selection, ranging from courgette or cheese pizza every day of the 7 days we stayed, to Paella with no meat in? Something which we both found very disturbing was seeing one of the hotels cats spraying urine up against the serving halls walls. Not very nice when the table wine served with the meals tasted of little else.

Another thing we found to be very strange was having to pay for the use of the rooms safe?? I have never had this with any other hotel I've ever stayed in and we both thought this to be very odd!

Now that's all out the way with on to the positives:

The rooms themselves were large and decorated tastefully throughout. They come with plenty of storage and either look out over the pool or the Atlas mountains which are an awesome sight to wake up to. Our room had a flat screen TV and air conditioning which was a welcomed treat after a long day in the lush Moroccan heat. The room also had a card slot for the room card but brilliantly didn't need to be inserted to make the electric function meaning that you could leave the aircon on all day ready for a lush cool temperature in the evening. The visual aspect of the hotel and its surroundings was amazing!! The hotel decor is a very good mix of traditional, authentic and modern styles. The reception area is huge, very grand and has an amazing ceiling. The sofas and lounging areas throughout the hotel are very comfortable and beautiful. The hotel grounds are huge and there is plenty to do. With activities such as archery, the trapeze, basketball, ping pong ball and two large swimming pools it is almost impossible for active people of any age to be bored. The grounds are beautiful with lush vegetation and an array of brightly coloured flowers. It was a very pleasant feeling to be walking around late at night with the paths lit and to be mooching around the pretty lake with its bizarre croaking frogs. The hotel also houses a night club, extremely large function hall and an on site infirmary. It all feels very safe and secure, with large gates at the front of the hotel which were manned 24/7 and life guards around the pool.

Although the staff speak very little English they are extremely helpful and will go out of their way for you and have clearly adopted a friendly and caring attitude. There is a free shuttle service to and from the center of Marrkech but with very odd times. For example the night service runs you into the center at 1945 but the evening meal is served at 1930. Giving you only 10 mins to eat your food. This left us feeling rushed on more than one occasion. Both of us enjoy the occasional cigarette and these can be bought from the reception for only £2.43 for a pack of 20 Marlboro or Malboro lights. Obviously a massive saving from the UK's £8.20!! There is also a cash machine in the reception area which was very convenient. Although we had a TV the only channel in English seemed to be CNN news. A minor thing but a little annoying.

All in all our stay at the hotel was very pleasant and enjoyable apart from the very loud mornings and the bizarre food which had clearly been recycled several times over from previous meals.

We had booked into another hotel which just before departure we were informed was closed for renovation so found this hotel as a last minute choice. All I can say is I am so glad our original hotel was closed as this was a perfect hotel for myself and my family. The Eldorador club Palmeraie is fantastic. Room decor is a little tired but linen and room was spotlessly clean. All the other areas of the hotel were immaculate. Gardens and pool areas were beautiful. We have never been to an all inclusive so don't have anything to compare it to but the food was plentiful, there was loads of choice and there was always something available. The highlight of my daughters day was finding out what the afternoon snack at 4pm was. Rose wine with lunch and dinner was passable and the kids could have soft drinks and there was water always available. The hotel is geared towards the French Market but we never had a problem being understood and all of the staff we encountered were helpful and enthusiastic. The animation team were brilliant not in your face but loads to do for adults and children if you wanted to. The trapeze was great fun. For what we paid this was a 5* fabulous relaxing few days and we will return. If you want lots of British people and food this is not the place for you but if you are willing to remember your school learnt basic French and want a relaxing break in the sunshine then it is perfect.
