“You must eat here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2009

We booked this riad in July and unfortunately two weeks before we were due to go we were told that it had been double booked. In Stuart's own words, "He was mortified". He was extremely apologetic and had found us another riad fairly close by. It was not the best situation as we were only there for 4 days and it meant two days in one riad and two days in another. However the riad we were booked into for the first two nights was excellent and we were made to feel extremely welcome from the staff at both Riads. At Bel Haj, Christian and Iman did everything they could to make sure we were all happy and we were all given complimentary Hammams and massages which were fabulous. The Riad is lovely and so peaceful. We ate dinner at Bel Haj and the food was excellent. Just as good, if not better than, Le Fondouk. All the staff were welcoming and really did do their best to ensure we had a great stay after the initial booking mistake.

This was a planned trip with friends as a pre Christmas break.
The Riad Bel Haj is a delightful riad centrally situated for easy access to the exotic souks and the main attractions in Marrakesh.
The staff and owners of the riad were exceptionally helpful, obliging and nothing was too much trouble to make our stay enjoyable.
The riad is a quiet haven away from the hustle and bustle of city life and really is a great retreat a "home from home"
Staff cooked our meal on the first evening and this was most delicious and certainly competetive with the restaurants that we ate in over the break.
The excursions were booked by Nikki the riad owner and these were all planned with care and attention to detail, which made the day trip out into the Atlas mountains a great hit. The driver made sure that he provided us with opportunities to take photographs and his local knowledge gave us insight into daily life in Morocco.
The Majorelle gardens are stunning and within striking distance of the riad. The break was for me a taster and certainly I would return to Marrakesh and the Riad Bel Haj.

  • Liked — The tranquility of the riad
  • Disliked — Room was a little small

My wife and I take a long weekend away at the begining of December each year. This year we were joined by friends and needed, between us, three rooms. For a little extra each, we were offered exclusive use of the Riad Bel Haj and it was the best decision we could have made. Our "own house" in the most convenient area of Marrakech.

On day 1 after having left home in the early hours we decided to have dinner in the Riad. The meal provided was probably the best we had in Marrakech despite eating twice in highly reccomended and fairly costly restaurants.

The Riad management were well connected with a taxi company. The airport meet & greet and both airport and restaurant transfers they organised for us were faultless.

They also arranged a trip into the Atlas Mountains in a 4X4 with lunch in a Berber House - this again was perfect and we had nothing but praise for the driver and our lunchtime host. Again, the food was excellent.

The staff at the Riad were lovely, there was nothing too much trouble for them and the owners gave us lots of help and advice.

All in all, it was a fabulous place to stay, a great location, a real home from home.

This was my fourth visit to Marrakech, although previously I had stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels. For my wife and our friends it was their first.experience of Marrakech. However, for all of us, it was our first Riad experience and unanimously we agreed we would each jointly or independantly return to the Bel Haj.

Thank you to Pure Riads in general and the Bel Haj in particular.

  • Liked — Very clean. Great location short walk to souks, main square etc.

The Riad Bel Haj is the perfect place to stay in order to immerse yourself in the Marrakech culture. The setting is in the Medina amongst the souks and very close to the Jemaa El Fna (main square). The riad is beautiful inside and the staff are very hospitable. We were welcomed with mint tea upon our arrival and a description of the area. The Riad Bel Haj helped make Marrakech the most worthwhile trip I've ever taken.

This was mine and my friend's third time to Marrakech. It seems to have turned into an annual pilgrimage with the main objectives being to shop all day, eat in lovely restaurants and get pampered in a local Hammam. Our stay at this Riad was by far the best yet. The Riad's location is really easy to find, with the souks starting round the corner and Jem al Fnaa Square 5 minutes walk away. The Riad itself was a sanctuary to come home to and the staff were so accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble, the manageress was even kind enough to walk us to the restaurant, Le Pavilion after her shift one evening so we 2 girls didn't get lost. Stuart, our host, was brilliant . Very helpful and took the time to make sure all his guests were happy. He clearly enjoys what he does very much and this translates into great service. Next time we go back, we will try either one of the 2 other riads on Pure Riads.com ( Riad Dar Hanane and Riad Tzarra) as I'm certain they will be just as lovely as this one.

First time to Marakesh, the Riad Bel Haj was a haven of calm. Mint tea on arrival in the beautiful court yard to rest our aching backs. Local info from Imane- whats good and whats not, and a map invaluable when you are trying to pack in lots of sights in a short space of time.
Clean, friendly, lovely breakfasts, all absolutely excellent. Wonderfully decorated too and Imane was so accomadating for all our needs. A definate find on the Riad scene. A fantastic start to your Moroccan adventure!

We loved our stay at the Riad. Definitely the highlight of our days in Marrakech.
We were received by Imane who was really helpful and not only welcomed us but also gave us a good idea of what to do and where to go in Marrakech.
The rest of the personnel were really incredible as well. Miriam was very nice and she even took the time to show me how to prepare Mint Tea! We were really lucky as we had the riad all for ourselves the first night; but even when other guests were around the other days they still took good care of us.
The rooms are not huge but they fulfilled all our needs. It was great having iPod docking stations so we could just stay in our room and listen to music while reading. Weather wasn’t great so having a place where you actually feel comfortable was very important!
Location was perfect. Only a few minutes walk from the main square and with easy access from one of the main streets that lead to La Koutoubia, very important if you like walking around especially at night when you can easily get lost in the so many little streets of Marrakech.
Choosing to stay at Riad Bel Haj just made our trip perfect!
