“A very welcoming and hospitable Riad”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2008

We (myself, my partner, daughter and her partner) have just returned from two week's travel around Morocco, including five nights at the Riad Bel Haj, covering the begining and end of our tour. It was a perfect place to unwind and enjoy the hospitality of Marrakech. The staff were always pleasant and attentive, but not intrusive. The Manager, Imane, provided invaluable advice and assistance each morning (if required) as we planned our day. The accommodation, the service, the attention to detail, the wonderful breakfasts, and the dinner on one evening, could not be faulted. We cannot recommend this Riad highly enough. We are a well travelled family and I can say that the Riad Bel Haj rates among the best accommodation and value for money we have experience. I will be recommending this Riad to any friends and family planning a visit to Marrakech. Long may they continue.

Though we've been to Marrakech a number of times before i have yet to recall an experience quite like this one. Time and again we stay in lovely areas but constantly wanting to sample more of the Morrocan culture, but i think we have finally found a place we can return to over and over again.

From the moment we set foot over the threshold to the somewhat unexpectedly painful goodbye to the staff, we felt cared for and appreciated as guests right the way through, ensuring our visit to this gorgeous riad will never be forgotten.

Though situated in an ideal location just moments from the energetic and vibrant souk, once inside the door you feel as if you are in a personal paradise, completely shielded from the world allowing perfect tranquility until such time as you desire to leave and become once again part of the hugely likeable morrocan bustle. As soon as we decided we would like to leave the riad in search of some nearby local culture, the riad manager, Imane, was a treasure, more than helpful and insightfully telling us of the most secluded and unknown surrounding attractions, with detailed instructions on how to get to them - this a)prevented us from getting lost! and b) added to the overall complete enjoyment of our holiday!

The riad itself, aside from being tranquil and homely, is kept in immaculate condition by the housekeeper Meriem and cleaner Hanane, ensuring that every single day upon returning to the Bel Haj everything was perfect, and we were stress free to enjoy the gorgeous evenings lazing by the pool or taking in the illustrious views from the rooftops, gazing out over the picturesque dream that is Marrakech at sunset.

What we experienced at this stay unlike any other was the interest of the owners in their guests. Though undoubtedly busy the Redcliffe's made it their business to introduce themselves and inquire after our stay, striving to make it better in anyway they could - the most fantastic thing however is that i don't think they really could have made this unforgettable visit to one of the most beautiful areas of the modern world any better.

Overall from past experience Marrakech itself is an incredible place, one which i would suggest visiting to anyone that ever asked - but coupled with the most gorgeous riad we have ever stayed at, i thoroughly believe that instead of waiting for someone to ask before recommendation, i will be approaching my friends and acquaintances and actively encouraging them to visit this place as soon as they can.

Riad Bel Haj has improved no end our experience of Marrakech forever - and i can never be thankful enough to the staff and owners for that gorgeous fact. Thank you.

This was our first trip to Marrakech but I really hope it won't be the last because our stay at this Riad was absolute bliss! The staff were delightful from our arrival to our departure and made us feel right at home. We thoroughly enjoyed Saida's authentic Morroccan meals, eating on the roof terrace under the stars!

The Riad is gorgeous, amazingly tranquil and a superb place to relax. It's really close to the centre of the city; the souks are only a few minutes walk away so there's no excuse not to experience everything Marrakech has to offer!

The Riad is equipped with everything you could need, and the pool is a great place to relax and cool off over the hottest parts of the day. There's always some shade next to the pool, or there's the roof terrace if you really want to get some sun!

The owners (Stuart and Nikki) are really lovely people, and met us at the Riad. They took a genuine interest in our stay and wellbeing, and helped us find a whole host of breathtaking places that's we'd never have been able to find without their help!

Words can't really describe how incredible our stay was, we'd never been anywhere like Morocco before and it absolutely blew us away! We'll definitely be coming back next year, and hope to have many more after that!

We have just returned from our second stay in wonderful Marrakech and could not have been made to feel more welcome at this beautiful Riad.

On arrival we were met by one of the owners who gave us some great advice which helped us make the most of our three days in Marrakech.

During our stay, Myriame and her colleagues served us truly delicious and aromatic food - just what you need to refresh yourself after exploring the Souk !

We hope to return next year and look forward to staying again at Riad Bel Haj

Our stay at Riad Bel Haj was the perfect final stop after a wonderful trip around Europe. We were greeted by a charming member of staff who gave us brilliant advice on how to best enjoy Marrakech, which was a welcome change from the guidebooks we relied on in Europe! This Riad could not have been more perfectly placed, right in the centre of the stunning souk it was a brilliant location. The Riad itself was simply beautiful, very stylish and surprisingly peaceful after the bustle of the souk! After a long flight it was it was wonderful to be looked after and the staff even booked a table for us in an authentic Morrocan restaurant, Marrakchi (the chicken and honey tagine was divine!) Brilliant location, beautiful Riad, no complaints! If you are going to Marrakech this should be where you are staying!

We spent 2 nights in this delightful Riad. It is situated close to the main square and the Koutoubia Mosque and is easily accessible (without any need for a porter/barrow ) from a nearby main road, although it is situated in a typically narrow 'derb'.

The Riad comprises 4 rooms situated around a pretty but small courtyard, one on the ground floor, two on the first floor and the fourth at the top of the building which includes a roof terrace.

The roof terrace also has a tented dining area where we elected to have our main meals. This was an excellent decision as the food, ambience and service were all memorably first class.

The staff were obviously hand picked and well trained and could not be faulted. We also met the owners who run 3 other Riads in Marrakech which are marketed under the title of PureRiads. They have a strong hotel background and could not have been more welcoming.

All in all it was a great stay and we will return.

  • Liked — Normally children are not welcome in this Riad, but because we booked all the rooms we had the place to ourselves and the children caused no annoyance to others.

When I first saw the website for pure riads and found the Riad Bel Haj, I knew straight away that it would be a wonderful place to stay. I was traveling to Marrakech with my husband, 4 year old daughter, 4 month baby, my parents and good friend and we hired the whole riad for 2 nights stay after a 5 night stay in Essaouira.

We all arrived at the riad at the same time as the previous guests were leaving and there was a real buzz in the air as we had the 'hand over' of Marrkech knowledge from them. Also, it was a great opportunity to meet Nikki and Stuart (owners) who were there to greet us. They talked to us about their very interesting history as hoteliers and we could really sense their passion for sharing their good taste and high standards with their guests. The mint tea and Arab biscuits on arrival were delicious.

We occupied 3 out of the 4 rooms and they were all perfect and very authentic in shape and style. The riad itself was a real oasis of calm and just what you need when visiting such a vibrant city. Its design and finish is superb. We chose to eat our meals at the riad and were so impressed with the level of cuisine, it was truly delicious and very generous quantities. When visiting Marrakech for just a few nights, I wouldn't waste time stressing to find a 'safe bet' restaurant, food at the Bel Haj is authentic and most delicious home cooking you could ever ask for. Myriame and her team are fantastic and extremely accommodating. We felt so at home with them that we could go down to the kitchen and even get a quick lesson in mint tea making! Every meal we had there was outstanding value for money.

The dunk pool was great fun and all you need to cool down from the heat of the city. The adults in our group did not test the water but our 4 year old couldn't get enough of it. The roof terrace (where we ate every evening) was beautiful and private and it was the perfect spot to dine and listen to the amazing sounds of Marrakech.

Our experience of the Riad Bel Haj was one that none of us could fault in any way. When we return to Morocco we will certainly be staying there again or at one of their other riads. Everyone involved in running the riad Bel Haj, from the manager to the night warden, were all charming and very professional people.

DON'T MISS THE OPPORTUNITY TO STAY IN THIS AMAZING PLACE!!
