First of all, apologies for being so late with our review.
We stayed at the Riad Vert in May this year and had a truly amazing holiday. We arrived in the evening and our taxi brought us as far in to the Medina as possible and we walked the last 5 minutes or so through the narrow old streets.
As we arrived at the front door of the Riad we weren't quite sure what to expect but when Sanaa answered the door with a big smile we relaxed immediately. As we entered the Riad our first impressions were that it was absolutely breath taking. We sat down on the most beautiful Moroccan sofas and were brought mint tea and little pastries. The decor and furniture was the most exquisite I have ever seen and I planned to create the same effect when I got back home!!
Any photos you see of the Riad are beautiful but none truly do it justice, you have to be there, to feel it and see it.
We were then shown to our beautiful "Beldi" room where we freshened up then had a wonderful chicken Tajine dinner that Fatima had prepared for us.
We awoke to the sunshine streaming in and birds singing.........paradise.
Breakfast of gorgeous little Moroccan pastries, breads & jams was served by Asis.
We stayed at the Riad for 10 days and can only say that the staff could not do enough for us. Isabel the owner truly loves her Riad and has put all her heart into it. It was a beautiful sight to see her cutting freshly delivered roses to put on all the tables.
And Sanaa........ What can I say? She is ALWAYS smiling. She works very hard and nothing is too much trouble for her and it will always be with a smile.
No need to book any excursions before hand. Sanaa will arrange everything for you and the prices are very reasonable. We took a day to the Atlas Mountains. Mohamed was our driver and he took us to lots of places on the way up. First we stopped of at "La source du tapis" where we met the owner Rachid who enchanted us with stories of rug making in the mountains. We bought a beautiful hand woven Berber rug at a reasonable price. We highly recommend paying Rachid a visit. Next we stopped of at "Arome Montagne" where we bought lots of herbs & spices and the precious Argan oil. Finally we stopped at a pottery shop where we met Mr Ait Bihi Mohamed and bought an enormous hand painted tajine for about £8.
We then stopped off for lunch next to the river, we had 3 courses with a soft drink for about £10 total. We were then handed over to a young guide who was to escort us up the mountain. You walk as far up as you want, we managed to get to the 2nd waterfall which we were told is quite an achievement for our age (50+) LOL. It was a lovely walk up & down where we met some very nice people and bought some pretty souvenirs. All in all a fantastic day.
We also had a day trip to Essaouira organised by Sanaa. And of course we visited all the beautiful places in Marrakech including the souks and Jemaa el-Fnaa.
The Riad Vert is a wonderful base to visit Marrakech and situated in the Medina. We loved the Medina with all its character & activity. We found Moroccan people extremely friendly and polite.
We will be going back as we're running out of Argan oil!!
