“Better than any hotel I have ever stayed in.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2014

When we first saw this place it was very cheap and 3 stars, so are expectations were low. We quickly found it even though it is a tiny bit off the beaten path, but the service was incredible! We walked down stairs and breakfast was waiting for us already set up at a table for two. Later that day, we came back to our room (which we had left an absolute MESS) and it was clean! Everything folded and hung up! It was amazing and we were sad to leave! This is the best hotel I have ever stayed in (keeping in mind I am a college student :) )

I would recommend staying in Riad Dar Saba if you are visiting Marrakech for a few days. The Riad itself is quite difficult to find but we contacted the manager beforehand and he arranged for a taxi to pick us up from the airport which made it a lot easier. The Riad is small, authentic and cosy and our room (Eau de Rose) was comfortable and clean. The manager was very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for him. He arranged a day trip out for us and also a taxi back to the airport. We stayed for dinner in the Riad after our day trip to Cascade D'Ouzoud (also very good) which was absolutely delicious. The small private terrace was gorgeous and you can ask the lady of the house to bring you some tea to have on the roof.

We found Marrakech quite overwhelming and at times a bit intimidating but this Riad really was a gem in the middle of the chaos. There is also free wifi and lots of information about what you can do in Morocco. I am glad we chose to stay here.

Also - if you like cats then there is a little cat who will come and sit with you in the sun on the terrace!

Room Tip: There are three rooms on the 1st floor and two on the ground floor. We stayed on the first floor but...

Riad Dar Saba, was very comfortable with well-furnished and appointed rooms. The decor was well maintained and the beds were very comfortable and the shower was hot. The location was great in an out of the way spot just inside the media. Dar Saba also had a lovely secluded roof-top terrace. The manager and staff were friendly and communicating in English was easy. The only suggestions I would make would be to improve the quality of the breakfast which mainly consisted of bread (although the juice and coffee were great) but this was simple fare compared to other places we had stayed. The other point I would make is that the design impacted negatively one our sense of privacy; we were on the ground floor and could hear people coming and going. The manager also tended to stay up well into the small hours which meant he was sitting outside our room. I am not sure why this is the practice but I would suggest giving the main door key to guests to let themselves in and out.
Overall however our stay was comfortable and we enjoyed the friendly service and the peaceful surroundings and would recommend this riad to anyone wanting to visit Marrakesh.

Room Tip: A room on the first floor is a better option

I was very happy with our choice to stay at Riad Dar Saba. The staff is by far the best part of the riad. They are very kind and helpful. The rooms are very clean and great for the prices. The complimentary brunch is a good start to the day and is rather traditionally French (coffee, bread, jams, etc.)

I will say, that the reviews are correct about finding the riad. It is incredibly difficult to find. For those of you going, I would suggest contacting the riad to set up a pick up. If you want to try on your own, find the parking area that is right near the riad, go down the road, and take your first left turn. Go down a little while and duck under the arches - the riad is on the right. If you can't find it, there will be a boy around that you can pay 50dhs to take you to the door.

I really enjoyed Riad Dar Saba. It's a cosy place with really friendly and helpful staff. It's walking distance to where all the action is in Marrakech, it's very nice and clean, they clean the rooms everyday while you're there and the breakfast is quite good.
The room we stayed in didn't have air conditioning and was really hot but the vents helped us to fall asleep. No door to the bathroom, only a curtain, but that's common in Morocco.
The major problem is that it's difficult to find the first time, specially if you arrive at night, and seems one always ends up paying some guys to take you there. They can arrange a pickup at the airport and that's what we should have done 'cause that was a stressful and unnecessary moment.

We stayed there for 4 nights. We arrived in Jemma el fan off the airport bus and although we had a map, we were completely lost. First timers, don't even bother trying to find this place on your own. Impossible! I would recommend contacting the riad to help get you picked up somewhere.

Once there, the location is in the medina but a little far from the square. We quite liked it bc it was outside the main touristy part. It was easy to get to once you found it for the first time.

It was good value for dollar. The riad is beautifully decorated and the rooms were very nice. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was basic, bread and jam, but it was decent. The only issues we had with the room we were in was that it was quite humid, no AC and the window was facig out into the common area where people tended to smoke a lot. We also had some plumbing issues where the water from our shower would never drain.

Besides that, it was a very pleasant stay. Definitely recommend it.

First of all about the riad itself:

It is a small pension with small but good-looking rooms. Everything is clean and working and the decorations make the riad a very atmospheric environment. We stayed here two nights on seperate bookings (beginning and end of a round trip through Morocco) and saw two rooms. Both had air-conditioning. Breakfast is nice and complete.

Why no 5 stars? Answer: Parking and a booking problem.

The riad is difficult to find and parking is a big problem. Although the riad management can not solve these problems, they have an obligation to the guests to make them aware of this prior to their visit.

The parking indicated on the map is just a slap of tarmac on which cars are parked in neutral, to be able to push them around to make room for more cars. Some guys work there and asked us 50 dirhams per night to park the car. There is no sign or anything whatsoever that says that it is an official parking and that they are the rightfull owners and thus entitled to ask money for it. Because traffic is chaos in Marrakech and we had to get our bags to the hotel we had no choice but to accept. The parking guy let us to the riad (although we didn't ask for his help) and of course wanted money for that too (so in total 120 dirhams for two nights parking and 2 minutes of way finding). We asked the riad manager what a reasonable price was for the parking, but he just agreed to the parking guy. Seems like hand and glove to me. We send him off with 100 dirhams and he agreed to that without discussion (which contributes to the statement that there are no official prices).

Then the booking problem. After we arrived them manager told us there was no room for us (although we had a reservation) due to a problem with the system. Inconvenient, but the matter was handled adequatly. We got a room in a nearby comparable riad (4 minute walk, and we got help with the bags).

3.5 star - and the advise to get to the riad by taxi. Visit Marrakech for a day by foot (a car is of no use) and pick up the car two days later. Saves you vehicle rent and parking fees which should easily make up for two taxi fares and some driving stress.
