“What a gem...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2009

I stayed with my family over xmas and new years and it was perfect. We stayed for 12 nights. The place is very stylish and covered in architectural details from when it must have been some rich guy's house. It looks like something out of a travel magazine, but not too over the top. It's actually quite minimal chic.

This place is for people who want to stay in the medina (amazing) and who want to be immersed 'real' Fes, yet at the same time want enough luxury to ensure that their time there is comfortable. It does not feel like a B&B, it is a boutique hotel really but if you stay for more than a night or two it becomes your home.

The staff were beyond amazing. I would give them a 6/5 if I could. They went above and beyond: the breakfast was waiting and they would set it up where ever we felt like it, on the roof, in the courtyard, by the fire. Dinner was as good or better than the best we had in any restaurant. They were very sweet people, in fact I've facebooked them.

The beds were comfortable, the sheets fantastic. There was hot water when we needed it because I noticed on TripAdv that this was an issue when I was researching this trip. The bathrooms were stylish and very clean. In fact the whole place is very clean.

Overall, after only one trip, I would say the most important thing to know about Morocco for the newbie is that if you smile and try to interact with people, you will have a much better time than if you feel intimidated and try to avoid any 'hustle'. I found that any dude who was trying too hard to sell me something could be completely defused with a smile and some small talk about how much I loved his city/country. I LOVED it.

An oasis of calm in the best location of the ancient medina.

Staffed by two of the most attentive and warm staff i have ever encountered, Riad Tizwa made my stay in Fez Morocco feel like a 5 star retreat, without any of the pretension. Unlike a big hotel, they are warm and personal, the perfect blend of "always ready to help" without being over bearing. From little details, like rose petals on the floor, to big items like king sized luxury beds, they seem to have nailed that difficult balance between small hotel charm and luxury hotel type service.

As far as location, the hotel sits in what i consider the best location for a riad. Very close to car access (30 second walk), yet on a very quiet street that is of the type that people that live in the medina actaully live on - you dont lose that "in the median" experience. You are 5 mins walk from the Batha area and Bab Boujloud - and these are the two easiest areas to grab a bite to eat, as well as the best starting point to enter the medina for a day of exploring. The area is very safe, with a "teleboutique" located very near for easliy making international calls for cheap.

I had a very wonderful time in Fez, and i think that my stay at the Raid Tizwa had a large part to do with it.

A friend and I took a trip to Fes earlier this year and were incredibly happy to find this hidden treasure amongst the winding back streets of the old town. Do not let the non-descript entrance fool you, once inside you find a palace of epic proportions. The luxurious courtyard into which you enter is full of sumptuous decoration, comfy seating areas and fantastic hospitality. We were lucky enough to view several of the rooms and each one is as comforatble and opulent as the next. The many staircases and hidden away chambers provide a feeling of real Morocco and give it the edge over any of the more modern hotels surrounding the old town.
The location of the riad is perfect, smack bang in the middle of the old town means that it s the perfect place to explore the city from, providing a haven of calm and comfort when the hectic markets prove too much.
The real treat of the riad is it's rooftop oasis. Several levels manage to provide private spaces whilst still making the area a perfect place to convene with other travellers and share your stories about the day whilst overlooking what I would deem to be the best view of the remarkable city, a real eye-opener, especially at night, when the city really lights up.
The staff are continually helpful and leave you wanting for nothing, expect lots of the delicious Moroccan speciality, peppermint tea, to soothe you from the somewhat overpowering heat.
I would go as far as to say that Riad Tizwa is by far the best hotel experience both myself and my friend had ever encountered. Many thanks to the staff and owners for a delightful stay.

I booked a surprise weekend for my boyfriend in Fes and Marrakech and loved every minute of it.

We are used to traveling for business, and being in Europe, so this was a total departure in culture and feeling.

Basically morocco is a paintpot of colour and different experiences.

We found this riad online and booked it. The rooms are big and comfortable with great beds, and lovely gowns.

Heathy breakfast , and you feel like you are in a private palace. Warm during the day in November, but cold at night.

good place to visit.

We stayed at the Riad for a few days after being in Marrakech. A driver picked us up at the train station and took us there. The location is great and easy to find once you've been there once. The staff were helpful, though for a Riad that advertises itself online only in English it was a bit odd that no staff there while we were spoke any English. The room was smart, the iPod dock and slippers were a great touch, but the dressing gowns made it! However without a shower curtain it was quite easy to flood the bathroom. There were a few minor niggles like that, the shutters didn't latch shut properly and there wasn't the best amount of storage for clothes things, a little safe would have been nice too. Those are minor things though, and they were all forgotten with the amazing breakfasts on the roof, which had fantastic views over the medina.

  • Liked — The dressing gowns (and the breakfasts)
  • Disliked — Inability to communicate well with the staff

We stayed here for a few days on a two week trip to Morocco. Riad Tizwa is a very beautiful Riad, lots of lovely touches such as the Ipod docking station in our bedroom. We took the room on the roof which was very nice because it felt like we had our very own private roof terrace. The welcome was warm and breakfast was yummy. We had a lovely, peaceful stay. The Riad is also very convieniently located and relatively easy (in Medina terms!) to locate from Place Bacha.

Thanks Riad Tizwa.

Staying at Riad Tizwa in Fes was one of the highlights of our trip to Morocco. The Riad is very beautiful and we were very comfortable there. I am only sorry that we could not stay longer. We really appreciated all the special details such as the beautiful red roses on the window sill, the lovely candle light in the evenings and the robes with tassels on the hoods.

Much of our enjoyment was the result of the lovely way in which Malika was managing the Riad. She was so sweet and gracious and helpful. In addition, she is the most wonderful cook. The meals we had at the Riad were the best ones we experienced in Morocco, as as good as anything I have eaten anywhere. They were truly outstanding and were a wonderful surprise. Malika is an absolute treasure. We also thought very highly of her assistant (was his name Samir?) who was very charming and sweet, and the person who came and met us at the Batha square was most helpful.

Fes itself was most interesting. I think there is more to see there than there is in Marrakesh. Two nights was not long enough.
