This is what I can truly call a Dar or a Riad after staying at different Riads in Fez and Marrakech. First of all the owner inherited this property from his grand father so it is like his own house (but he doesn't live there) and he doesn't treat it as a business to rip off tourists. From the time we arrived in Fez, they were at the nearest gate of the Medina to pick us up and our luggage (and if you ever have to find a riad on your own inside a medina of Fez or Marrakech you will promise never to stay at a Riad again). So anyway, we got VIP treatment right from the moment we arrived in Fez.
They arranged dinner for us really late at night without any problems. The owner and the staff were extremely friendly people. The owner gave us lots of tips about Fez and what to see and how to see. The next morning he arranged an official tour guide for us too who only charged 250 dirhams for the whole day (excluding the meal and transportation - roughly 120 dirhams).
The breakfast at the Riad was amazing - almost about 5 courses and you can request more if you feel more hungry though I can bet you won't.
They upgraded our room too to a much bigger and spacious room at no cost - that is how nice the owner Ahmed is - if he could do something for you he would.
I say all this after experiencing some business type riads in Marrakech (I will write reviews later) who had great flashy sites and rates - but extremely pathetic service (or maybe because this riad had spoiled us, our expectations from others were higher).
The riad had a big guest book with 1000's of happy reviews and I am surprised that trip advisor didn't have a review.
I would recommend staying at this Riad if you visit Fez - and I would also recommend visiting Fez and not only Marrakech because Fez has more authenticity to offer (in my opinion I would rather visit Fez and skip Merrakech if I had to visit one place).
And yes, don't forget to get an unofficial guide after you are done with the official guide because Fez Medina is impossible on your own - you will get lost in the hilly narrow streets which is nothing like Merrakech or Essauoira - We found a boy named Muhammad for 50 dirhams right outside Dar Anebar and if you ask the Dar owner for him, he'll find him for you. Remember, unofficial guides must be picked very very carefully!
All in all, the 2 nights in Fez wouldn't have been the same for us if we didn't stay at Dar Anebar.
