“Truly an oasis in the crazy street outside.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2012

Such a relief to get back to the Riad after walking around the confusing and meandering alleyways of the souk.
The atmosphere inside the Riad is luxurious but with the hospitality and friendly staff, like FZ and such a gracious and helpful owner, it is like coming home. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful on the terrace floor. Dinner was excellent. The sitting room was cozy. Wifi available only on the first floor.
My sister and I were supposed to stay at the Red room as it had twin beds, however,we misinterpreted the meaning of open bathroom -meaning no Doors or privacy. Free, the owner changed us to the Cream suite with a Queen bed and another Queen bed on the loft with a door to the bathroom for privacy.
I would highly recommend this riad to everyone. Great service.

It's really the little things -- the service was overwhelmingly warm, greetings with kisses, invitations to hang out in the kitchen all the time to have our tea, pictures of us sent to us via email after our visit, they comped us wine and soap -- they do amazing things to make you feel like your stay is personal to them.

Sabah, the cook and FZ were downright amazing, they took us on a morning market tour even though we later found out that they do not, in fact, actually need to go to the market every morning. Still they carefully stopped at each vendor and explained traditions and uses for ingredients.

The riad overall underwent some major restoration, but you get the distinct feeling the owners are obsessed collecting Moroccan artifacts, doors, furniture, pieces... and then they find little nooks to put them in throughout the property. It's half thrift shop, half museum -- definitely not going for the understated elegant look, but there is interest everywhere you glance.

The rooms are nicely appointed, not super plush (especially given the high-ish price), but again you get that eclectic colorful ambiance.

Try getting a room downstairs, the upstairs rooms (we stayed in the yellow room then the orange suite) have uneven floors, which is quaint, but also unnerving... also this is a brilliant place if you're bringing kids. They have 2 adorable kids and 2 wonderfully friendly dogs, so really you're stepping into their home and glam Fez life.

The roof terrace is also awesome, had it been better weather during our visit, I would have just stayed up there and looked out onto the sprawling medina with a glass of rose all day in the sun.

This riad really made our stay in Fez stand out. That is all.

Room Tip: Try to stay in a downstairs room, the stairs get windy and uneven.

My husband, daughter(late 20's), and I had the trip of a lifetime in Morocco! My favorite city was Fes and the Riad Laaroussa was comfortable, relaxing, beautiful...everything was perfect!!! Met the owners Fred and Kathy-who were extremely friendly as was the staff! FZ was so attentive and took such good care of us! She was there for our every need! When it was time to leave, it was like leaving friends...The green room was perfect for the three of us-big roomy accommodations and done in great taste! The roof top was unbelievable- great views and a wonderful location for our breakfasts and later, evening relaxation! We could not have asked for a better place in Fes to stay at! Thanks to all at Riad Laaroussa!!! :)

Fred and Kathy have done an amazing restoration of this riad in a fantastic location in the Fes medina. All of the rooms are large and beautifully decorated, and there are many areas to sit and relax, enjoy a coffee or a pre-dinner drink (in addition to having a lovely spa and restaurant itself).

All of the staff treat you like family and make you feel welcome. Breakfasts on the terrace were delicious and the team would take care of all dinner bookings, airport/train pick ups etc, making it very easy and enjoyable.

The rooms were spotless and huge (the Grey suite was our favourite) and I would highly recommend staying in any of the rooms in this gem.

Cheers
Andrew

My husband and I had four nights staying in the Grey Suite which was lovely. As other travellers have said Riad Laaroussa is a real oasis in the medina of Fes. Our favourite spot in the late afternoon was up on the terrace listening to the life outside our Riad, very relaxing.
The owners and staff are all delightful and will do anything possible to make sure you have a fantastic stay. Sabah organised a guide to show us the Medina and that was a real highlight for us.
A wonderful place to stay in a magical place.

My husband, daughter and I spent three nights at Riad Laaroussa. It is a truly serene oasis in a very convenient spot inside the ancient medina walls. No cars are allowed within the walls, so after parking in the recommended parking area, the porter arrived and carted our (many) bags through the winding alleys of the medina. Within the beautiful wooden doors lies a true oasis from the bustle of the medina. We were greeted at the door and led to our huge room (grey suite). It contained a view of the orange-tree filled courtyard and a lovely fireplace which my daughter loved. We had dinner at the riad two of the three nights, which was excellent. Breakfast on the upstairs terrace overlooking the Fes skyline was always delightful and plentiful.
The owners Fred and Kathy were welcoming and helpful with restaurant and area suggestions, and truly went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The staff they have entrusted is also sincere and exceptional. FZed especially took such good care of us and was so caring toward our seven year old daughter. She also found us an excellent guide for the city at short notice.
Fes is an amazing city with medieval life humming along as it always must have. Laroussa is a lovely place to relax at the end of the day.

Room Tip: All the suites we saw were stunning and face the courtyard.
