“A wonderful Riad in Fes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2011

The Riad al Bartal is absolutely wonderful! Colourful tiles and beautiful furnitures carpets and curtains make you feel in a real Moroccan home. You will be always greeted by lovely people that will do the best to make your stay pleasant. Our suite was a dream!
The dinner superb for just 20 euros we had a few entrees ,a tasty and perfect tagine and light and fresh lemon tarte. And if you need a guide to take you around Fes they can provide a "real one"!The best place to be in FES!

Room Tip: the suites are amazing!

This Riad is located inside the medina walls, however it is easy to find and a welcome retreat from hectic sightseeing. The owners were not there, but the staff were extremely knowledgeable, engaging and helpful. The interior courtyard was incredible and comfortable, with small seating areas to read, drink tea or enjoy a glass of wine. The parrot, Poulet is hysterical! Breakfast and dinner were delicious. I highly recommend this Fes oasis!

This riad was gorgeous. There were a lot of tranquil places to lounge around and read or relax... The owners are a really nice French couple and they were very helpful about how to get around Fes. Ask for the walking tour map. Breakfast was very good.

The riad is situated just inside the walls of the Medina. We arrived by train and were picked up at the train station by request, a service that is recommended to use. The interior of the riad is stunning, beautiful decorated walls, pillars, furniture and plants. The open courtyard was covered by a removable translucent roof which let the light in , let small birds fly in but kept the rain out (a good thing in February).
We stayed for two nights. Breakfast was good, and we also ate our evening meals at the riad, very nice and reasonably priced. Friendly, helpfull staff who helped us with excursions to Volubilis, Moulay Idriss and a guided tour in to the medina. The room was clean and beautiful. A charming "detail" was Poulette, the owners parrot who is allowed to walk freely around in the courtyard.
The stay at this riad was memorable in it self and I will certainly stay here again when I´m going back!

This was our 2nd riad and Morocco and this was definitely the most impressive in terms of the grandness of the structure itself. We also had the best breakfasts here of bread basket, jams/honey, yogurt, coffee, fresh squeezed OJ, and omelette. The staff was very accommodating without being intrusive. It's larger and therefore not as intimate as the other riads we've been to. We arranged for a guide and we were given Abdul who was good. Of course we got taken to the usual shops but, in my opinion, visiting them really gave me a good idea of the products they sell there. We went to a weaving shop, a rug shop, a tannery, and a pottery shop. There was no obligation to buy, but I certainly did not have that kind of self-control! For 150 dirhams, we extended our tour to include the outskirts of the town which was worth it. Great riad in a beautiful ancient city!

A beautiful interior - high ceilings, intricate carved wood and filing, central area filled with plants and antiques. Fabulous suite - a bit like staying in a National Trust property.
