The emphasis is on fresh local produce, some of which is grown in the garden. When it is hot there is shade and sun hats, when cold or wet there is a salon with a log fire looking out into the garden, though when wet reservations essential. “Elegant, comfortable and creative”

The Ruined Garden is an essential addition to the restaurant scene in the old city of Fes. Lots of touristy (and rather poor) cafés near Bab Boujloud, some fancier and more formal places near Bab er R'cif and off Kebira, and not much else aside from private dining in a Riad. The RG is also attached to a riad (Idrissy) but its garden houses a restaurant open to the public, and a very good one at that. It offers a unique menu of Moroccan dishes you don't see all over town, and presents them with a flourish. Very nice, English-speaking service.

“Just go, it's a gem.”

The staff are awesome, the place is so atmospheric and authentic with a twist, as is the food. You can't not enjoy this place, honestly.

“Good hearty tasty food at great prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

My partner and I visited the Ruined Garden late last month and liked it so much we went back the same night. It's a very quirky place - handwritten menus, restaurant setting quite literally in the middle of a ruined garden etc. and we loved it. The restaurant owner also owns the Riad next to it, and was very friendly to us, arranging a guide to take us to and from our Riad as were still getting to grips with the winding and weaving lanes of the Medina and this was a nice touch and very much appreciated. If you were thinking of visiting the place for dinner, I would recommend that you go on an empty stomach, I made the mistake of having a burger not long before I visiting the Ruined Garden and couldn't manage to finish my lovely main. The food is really great and the portions are sizable - my kind of place! The service is quick and efficient and really good value for money. The place also has a fire going at night which was very atmosheric and quite romantic. I couldn't recommend it more.

“Ditto to all other comments”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2013

Our visit to the Ruined Garden pretty much echoes that of other reviewers - a nice respite from the rest of the city, an interesting menu and friendly staff. There was a bit of a wait for our food (and they weren't particularly busy so it wasn't that) but we so enjoyed the ambience that it didn't matter much. Some things we ordered were disappointing but it might have been more our taste buds than the food and isn't that part of the adventure? Would definitely recommend this place to others and would visit it if I ever get back to Fes.

“Great hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

Very pretty and interesting atmosphere. Our riad setup the reservation and someone from the restaurant picked us up and brought us home again. Manager is very nice, food was terrific, and atmosphere is great. Would definitely go back again.
