This riad is distinguished by the incredibly friendly staff and the beautiful interior. The staff went out of their way to prepare couscous for three hungry, late-arriving visitors. Didn’t realize what an imposition this was until later when I learned how involved it is to prepare the dish.

Apparently, three smaller riads were combined to make the current accommodation. Look for subtly different tile patterns as you pass through the antechambers. We poked our noses into a couple of the other rooms and they were all top-notch, as was our own.

Note that this riad is located inside the medina and is a 20 minute walk from Bab Boujloud. Hire a push-cart driver to handle the luggage and (hopefully) get you to the hotel. Look for small black signs once you get within 500 meters. The hotel is located up a short, climbing alley and is denoted by a pink sign. Good luck and welcome to Fes!

This riad is surely the best place to stay in Fes. I would suggest everyone to get the chance to visit Fes staying in this riad cause it offers the real marocco atmosphere with all comforts you dream from a holiday.

The riad has 12 big rooms with bathrooms. The style is the typical marocco one with a lot of small fountains, carpets and "mosaico".

It has also a big terrace to lay down under the sun or to have dinner under the stars.

The people working here are very kind and friendly. . They make this place the best cause they really take care about customers. I would say that the new boss is wonderful: he planned everything.. from a trip around medina to a relaxing afternoon in a fantastic swimming pool.

I would suggest to book in advance at least one dinner in the riad cause it is delicius. .. you will surely taste something special: meat, cous cous, chicken. .. and the special dessert made with carrots and cannella. I love it!!!!

The prices of the room reward the really good time you will spend there: believe me :)

The most important element of the beautiful, restful Algila Fes is the wonderful Soukaina and the incredibly cheerful and helpful manager Naema. We travelled as two friends and were treated like friends of the Riad. Fabulous breakfasts, ask for it up on the roof one morning just to enjoy the fresh Moroccan air. We had a beautiful room with all the trimmings of a Hilton, including bathrobes and slippers! Less than 5 minute walk to the main shopping section of the Fes. Perfect location. Great recommendation on a guide and a driver. Loved it.

We recently stayed five nights a this beautiful riad and loved it! The team is doing their outmost to make you feel at home and to provide excellent service to their guests. We traveled with our two kids (2 years and 5 months old) and they were cared about incredibly cordially by Soukaina and the team, which made our departure day even more sad than it already was. The three connected typical houses were renovated carefully and furnished and decorated with love and style. The location is perfect to explore the beautiful Medina of Fes. Being situated in the Medina it is not directly reachable by car but the team will be happy to organize someone to pick you up and to transport your luggage if you require it (it is around 250m from the nearest place where taxis can stop). Don't forget to dine on the rooftop, the chef will prepare a typical dinner for you with fresh ingredients from the market if you order it early enough (usually before noon). We also appreciated very much all the sightseeing and restaurant tips, all of them were perfect. You can also book transfers or tours at the Riad, prices are moderate and they chose their partners very carefully in order to make sure the guests receive high quality services also when booking those external offerings.
To make it short: We absolutely loved our stay at Algila Fes and we would like to thank the team for the days we spent there. For our next trip to Fes we will hopefully be able to book this Riad again.

Riad Algila Fes excellent service and accommodations were just what we were looking for in our first visit to Morocco. We found the people here open and warm and there was more personal service (unlike the Sofitel where we later transferred since we could not get all nights at the Algila Fes). That's why this Riad is very highly rated. We were amazed when we we saw the intricate tilework and carvings throughout the common rooms and our bedroom. Our room was on the upper floor ; we could have slept forever in the comfy bed, the fine cotton bedding. There is a programmable safe and mini-refrigerator in the closet , which we found handy. The bathroom amenities were great, with Argan oil in the soap, shampoo and conditioner. Hot water was perfectly fine - sometimes it took a few minutes to get the hot water, but that's the same thing in my house in the US. Breakfasts in the common rooms was a spread 4-5 types of home baked breads ( carbs don't count in Morocco, you'll work them off walking around), jams, honey ( likely from the honey souk), omelette, olives and olive oil, butter, yogurt and coffee or tea.

The staff are generally excellent - very fluent in English and French. Soukaina one of the day managers, was really fun to talk to and helped us book a half day guide. When it turned out the official guide wasn't available because we hadn't pre-booked, she helped us with a simple map and basic instructions on getting around the old Fes Medina ( going towards the Blue/Green gate, Bab bou jeloud, turn right at the small shop ( on the left side), there are black signs for the Riad , one is located above the wooden shop shutters, then go straight on until you get to Batha place, turn right at the fountain, follow that road / path and bear left going uphill slightly until you see the gate. That's a main reference point and near the beginning of the main thoroughfare, Telaa Kebira). We actually were able to navigate fairly well, having to re-trace our steps just a couple times. We went all the way from the Blue gate at one end of Telaa Kebira to the big old mosque (quoirroine)/ university and Nejjarine wood museum. Used descriptions in the guidebooks ( we used Lonely Planet ) to see the sights along the way. We were able to get back fairly easily by re-tracing our steps - the Riad is very well located to this area ( about 10-15 minutes walk each way if it's crowded).

Soukaina did book the half day guide on the next day, and then we were taken on many of the smaller streets and mazes, through the color souks, tanners, brass, wood furniture, weavers, tailor souks. We got to see the caravanserai, formerly was a place to overnight the caravans and pack animals which traders used to haul raw materials and finished goods; the ancient equivalent of a truckers rest stop. Those caravanserai are now places where foodstuffs or crafts are made and sold. We were taken also to the leather shop which surround the actual tanning area to observe it ( it does smell, but it's not overwhelming and they give you mint to sniff on). Not sure if you can see that area any other way than through the surrounding shops and it would not be worth seeing at ground level ( overview from above is best). They explain a bit about the different vats. Yes there is an interest to sell to you, but quite frankly how would they manage the business otherwise. We just said we weren't interested and they didn't pressure us. If you start asking about prices, then sellers see this as a signal of buying interest ( which makes sense, right? ), then they would try to sell more. Had we been better prepared, we would have broken down bills into coins for handy tips to assuage some of our own guilt, but on the other hand they know they will not get a sale every time; that's the price of doing business. Same goes for the rug shop located in a former residence, where they show you the weaving. A note on the "silk" made from the agave plant (yeah the same one Mexicans use to make tequila). They call it silk and it's pretty silky in texture and it takes color well, but it's not the silkworm type of silk. In Europe or US we would call it sisal. Still it's a natural fiber, but it's a bit of marketing to call it silk. We liked going with the guide because he was knowledgeable and witty, and it would have been a lot more difficult to get around to the side streets, and crafts.

We'd love to go back again and Riad a algila Fes would be a top choice for location and service.
