“Wonderful 3 week tour in Morocco with Hassan and Bouaouina Tours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2014 NEW

The title of this review is somewhat misleading as Bouaouina Tours does multiple day tours. Yes, you can arrange a single day tour with them, but really, they do multiple day tours or tours of any length that you desire. As such, it is very hard to just write about one day with this tour company.

My sister and I did a 3 week tour with Bouaouina Tours with Hassan as our private guide throughout. All we had to do was show up at the airport. Hassan handled everything else.
That included booking riads in the medinas, our meals, transportation and everything he booked was to our satisfaction. We had a very relaxing and stress free tour with Hassan right from our initial inquiries to the very end of our tour.

We toured from Casablanca to Rabat, Meknes, Volubilis and Fez and then made our way east towards the desert where we rode camels in to an overnight camp…simply fabulous adventure. Then we made our way to Marrakech and Essaouira and northerly up the coast to Asilah and Tangier. Then we spent a couple of wonderful days in Chefchouen before making our way back to Casablanca and then back home.

Hassan is multilingual, very sociable, and of course, very knowledgeable about his country. The guides he supplied for tours of Fez, Volubilus, Marrakech, and the Ourika valley were very good as well, Kamal was particularly good and seemed to know everything about Fez as well as everyone in the souks of Fez. Hassan even arranged for a cooking class for us while we were in Marrakech. Hassan is also very flexible. Our tour had not included a tour of the great mosque in Casablanca but when we expressed interest to tour the mosque, he arranged that for us as well. Hassan also matches the pace of his tours to the people in his tours.

A day that was particularly special for us was while in Bhalil, the town where Hassan lives. He took us through the market and some cave homes and then we went to his home where we met his wife Luba, his mother and father and nephew. His mother also prepared a very nice lunch for us. Luba toured with us for a week and we had a great time as a foursome.

My sister and I feel like we have made a life long friend and we definitely recommend Hassan and Bouaouina Tours for your tour of Morocco.

“The Most Incredible Travel Adventure of our lives!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2014

What a simply amazing time we had in Morocco with Bouaouina Tours. We were with Hassan as our private guide for nine days. It was our first time ever using a private guide or tour service, a choice we made since we do not speak Arabic or French. Hassan handled all the Riad reservations, travel and details for us - even booking our Hamman and restaurants, making it our most amazing stress-free adventure ever.

We based our itinerary on his Imperial Cities tour, adding 3 additional days to explore the medinas in depth and adding new stops when we wanted to see something else along the way. Hassan was completely flexible and this allowed us to to be spontaneous when we learned about something else we wanted to explore or spend more time at.

After a tour of Casablanca on our arrival, we made an impromptu stop at the Chellah Necropolis south of Rabat to see the Merenid Ruins and remains of the Roman City Sala Colonia when he learned we were interested in seeing it. We then spent 2 days in the Rabat Medina which even included a delicious dinner at the home of a local family one evening!

On the roadtrip to Fez we visited Meknes and the Royal Stables and Graneries, the town of Moulay Idriss I and the Roman Ruins of Volubilis, where Hassan hired us a special guide to tour the ruins since they don't allow outside guides. (Something apparently another reviewer in a past post was completely unaware of when posting her negative review of that tour).

Fez, wow! We spent 3 days in Fez, staying inside the ancient Medina, which made it easy to explore everything we wanted to see. We had the most amazing whirlwind tour of the souks and sights of the Medina with Kamal (fabulous history lessons included!). Our day with Kamal is now one of our fondest memories of the entire trip! We never would have seen so much of the Medina in one day without him, we would have spent our entire day getting lost We also met so many people - it seems everyone knew Kamal!.

When most of the Fez medina was shut down for the Eid al-Adha holiday, (another incredibly educational experience) Hassan took us to visit his hometown in Bhalil where we were invited to dine with his lovely family for the holiday feast, as well as witness the holiday traditions as the town residents prepared. It was a nice relaxing change from the bustling medina, to visit a small mountainside village. We even had tea in a cave home of a friend of his.

After Fez, we left for the long ride through the Lower Atlas Mountains to Marrakech in his brand new, extremely comfortable touring van, stopping on the Atlas Cedar Forest and the village of Azrou. Hassan knew we were interested in a small carpet, and we were able to visit the cooperative to view many even though it was a holiday - as well as learn about all the different carpet types. On a day where most restaurants were closed for the holiday, he even found us a delicious rotisserie chicken lunch in a small town along the way!

Marrakech, what a beautiful place! The tours Hassan gave us of the Saadian tombs, the El Badi Palace Ruins and the phenomenal artistry of the Bahai Palace with its handcrafted ceilings and decoration were incredible. He accommodated our wishes to visit Jemaa el-Fna in the evening rather than daytime so we could view all the action and the food stalls in the square from a rooftop cafe during sunset. While we enjoyed the square, Hassan took care of booking our night train tickets back to Tangier for our continuation to Spain, so we did not even have to deal with that!

One of the best parts of touring with Hassan, was you were not rushing from site to site at top speed with deadlines. It allowed us to enjoy Morocco in a relaxing manner rather than becoming exhausted running from place to place. Too often we return home tired and having missed some things we wanted to see- but not this time. Adding an extra day in Rabat, Fez and Marrakech also made the trip far more relaxing thanpre-planned guided tours usually are.
Hassan walked slowly so we could enjoy all the architecture and details and stop constantly for photographs (I took over 5000!) as well as allowing us to linger when we wanted.

He taught us the history of the different dynasties and Berber tribes of Morocco as well as detailed explanations of what we were seeing. It was not at all like your typical tour, it was customized just for us and was like traveling with a good friend you had know for years!

Hassan, his lovely wife Luba who accompanied us part of the time, and Fez specialist Kamal were the most wonderful people we have met anywhere we've traveled, EVER. This was an adventure we will never forget. And now we dream of returning to see even more of the beautiful country of Morocco.

You cannot go wrong by hiring Bouaouina Tours for your visit to Morocco - whether it's a day or a week or more. In fact, you'd be crazy to use anyone else.

I used Bouaouina Tours during my trip to Fes,Morocco.Planning stage was well organized by Hassan . Professional, prompt and very helpful.I was lucky to have kamal as my guide. Very friendly, professional, knowledgeable guide with excellent knowledge of the city. Excellent English. Safe driving habits, clean car. Private tour allows certain flexibility and kamal was always happy to accommodate my requests.

“Bouaouina tours - A let down”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2014

Having recently returned from a 12 day trip to Morocco we can only express our disappointment with our day trip to Volubilis,Moulay Idriss & Meknes.
Having read Hassan Bouaouina's website we were looking forward to learning a lot about Moroccan culture, language, people and history and about the sights we visited. Sadly we experienced nothing of this, but were just to be dropped off at the sites and told that our driver would wait for us when we came out! Hassan may be a highly professional and well-informed guide, but our driver, while deserving praise for being competent driver, did not provide us with the promised background information, reading suggestions and even bargaining hints

We did enjoy the services of a more competent local guide in Moulay Idriss, and a pleasant lunch at a local restaurant, but at Volbilis we were left to fumble around and guess at what we were seeing and we learnt nothing about Meknes beyond what we had already read in the tour description.
Moreover, we did not expect to have to pay entry fees to the sites mentioned in the description of the tour. For 1600 MAD we expected a lot more.
Our trip was memorable, not in a positive way, but as the worst experience of our trip.

“One amazing full day tour of Marrakech”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2014

Bouaouina Private Tours was our best decision as an introduction to Morocco. My husband and I met with Zakaria( Local Tour Guide) at our riad to start our full day tour around Marrakech in early-March. Zakaria asked us what exactly are we looking for, what is our goal to achieve and what do we want to see during our time with him. We told Zakaria that our interest was to have a tour of the hidden places and non touristy ones there and that's exactly what he showed us during our day with him. Zakaria brought us to places that we would not have been able to find on our own like the local bread baker where all the families bring their dough to bake. Our guide was knowledgeable and told us the history of the places. The tour was also at our own pace, we enjoyed many breaks to rest which he brought us to a lot of great places to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in great locations (roof top or in the heart of the market). My husband and I really enjoyed our tour with him and highly recommend him. He was very accommodating, he was professional and gave us a wonderful experience of our time walking through the Medina and Souks.
