“I was surprised...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014

… when we came by this place. Some locals shouted something and the door to this rather hidden synagogue opened. There was an incredibly nice man that showed us around and explained us the story of the synagogue and of judaism in morocco. Interesting visit and something different in Fès.

“Don't blink or you will miss it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2014

This synagogue is hard to find. You enter through a door that looks the same as thousands of other doors in Fes, so maybe better bring a guide or pay some money to a kid and he will take you there. This 17th Century synagogue was one of many in Fes. It was build by the rich merchant Mimoun Ben Sidan. From the synagogue there is a steep staircase going up to a deck from which you can see the Jewish cemetery. It is in the Jewish "Quarter", you will notice that the architecture of the houses surrounding the synagogue is a bit different of those in the heart of the Medina.

“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2014 via mobile

If you don't look out, you will not find it . Hidden among many houses inside the old Jewish quarters. The synagogue is worth the visit. Old world charm. Ask for the 18th century Torah.

It may be a little hard to find but well worth seeing this restored holy place. There is a true sense of intimacy, history and community here.

“Interesting for short visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2013

10 dh to go in. Lots of pictures of other Jewish areas around Morocco. Most interesting was to see the mikvah, the ritual bath. Didn't get too much of the history of Jewish people in Fes. Good for short 10-15 minute visit, max.
