“Excellent Riyad in Fes Medina”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2012 via mobile

Our trip to Fes was a wonderful experience thanks to the people at this Riyad. Not only are the rooms amazing, the people are fantastic too.

Valerie arranged for a taxi to pick us up from the train station and had someone waiting for us when we reached the walls of the Medina to walk us to the Riyad (I highly recommend this). She also arranged a guide for the following morning to show us around Fes (another thing I highly recommend).

We had dinner in the Riyad one night and the food was delicious. I highly recommend the ice cream!!

Everyone at the Riyad was great. We had a wonderful vacation thanks to them. I highly recommend this Riyad to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Fes.

We spent 4 days at Riyad Al Atik in early March. Fes medina is an interesting place and being led along the walk, turning up a narrow corridor and knocking on a door - and then entering a beautifully restored riad, was a great experience. There has been obvious care in the restoration of this property and it is beautiful. Our French was rusty but we were able to communicate with the lovely owners. Our rooms were comfortable with big bathrooms. Breakfasts were ample and delicious. We had two dinners there - the first a Moroccon meal, the second, when our children were protesting any more Moroccon salad , a vegetable salad and poulet frites (wonderful french fries). And the best ice cream! There is a terrace on which we spent an afternoon and they even rustled up some bread and cheese for a light lunch when we did not want to move. There is a well stocked fridge whose cold beer was much appreciated by the males on the trip. The icing on the cake was when the two daughters wanted henna and the lady working there was one of Fes henna artists so the kids had their hands done in the comfort of the riad.

This was a wonderful introduction to Morocco and Fes and we would highly recommend this riad to anyone. A special mention to Emad, the young man who served and helped out - he was so pleasant and cheerful and could translate when our rudimentary French failed!

What a perfect place to stay! It is all character and charm. The two French ladies were so welcoming, helpful and prepared to spend time with us organising our desert safari into the Sahara. Don't venture into the medina thinking you will find this riad as it is impossible without help. We made this mistake and spent a very hassled hour looking for it. Hire a trolley man for 20 MAD to take your luggage and show you the way. On arrival at the riad you will have freshly made mint tea and delicious biscuits. what a haven from the outside choas! we were greated by a charming young gentlemen along with other helpful staff.

This riad is so beautiful with its authentic decor. You can't help but love it. We stayed in the suite for four and were very compfortable and the bathroom was very delux. We really enjoyed our home cooked meal and as icecream connoisseurs you will not be disappointed.

This was a value for money luxury stop for us but you need to book because we left it too late and could only stay one night but valerie organised another riad for us and that will be my next buz from Fez.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful riyad. Valérie and Carine, the French owners, are such warm, friendly and helpful ladies. Fatima cooks excellent Moroccan dishes and the home made ice-creams by Carine only are worthwhile a trip to Fes ;-) The riyad is excellently situated, the rooms are clean, spacious and nicely decorated. Very good value for money. Highly recommended!!

It took 3 years to remodel and prepare this building for it's opening..and it shows.  At first I found it dark and too vertical and narrow in the center but the more I observed the more impressed I became.  The details - carving, tiles, colors, wooden doors, lit candles, iron work on the balconies and textiles were exquisite.  We asked to be picked up - which I think is the way to go when you first arrive at a riad in a medina - car was there. One of the owners walked us through a map when we arrived and even explained where to purchase the textiles I fell in love with.  Our room sofa was decorated in textured orange, subtle green and brown.  The breakfast room banquettes were in blues....and what a breakfast!!!  There is a lovely gentleman who serves breakfast, minds the door and overall helps take care of things.  The owners were professional and helpful.  It is clear they feel more comfortable with French speaking guests since  they are French but one of the owners can communicate well in English.  I used a combo of the two languages and it worked just fine.

This Riyad is expertly run by two charming French ladies who have a superb knowledge of the city and surroundings. They are extremely hospitable and very helpful. We had the room on the top floor which is very tastefully decorated and of a very good size.
We ate twice in the Riyad and both times were extremely pleasd by the quality and value for money.
I would highly recommend future travellers to take the airport pick up service - well worth the money for a hassle free arrival.

I think we couldn't have fell on a better riyad. The owners very hospitable; they went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable, had everything we needed and had the best experience possible in Fès. They took us out to visit the medina, meet local artisans and one night, even brought us to see a show with other guests from the riyad. The food at the riyad is delicious and their chocolate mint ice cream is to die for!! The riyad itself is very beautiful, our room (Debbaghine) was very charming, spotless and located on the terrace. We'd definitely go back if we were in Fès!!
