“Peaceful and luxurious Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

We stayed for 3 days in this Riad in Fez. We had a wonderful time. The staff was very friendly and Iolanda the manger was taking care of us in a wonderful way. The dinner in the Riad was excellent. We recommend to take a guided tour in Fez because the Medina is huge. All in all we can only recommend this Riad for a stay in Fez

The furnishing are sumptuous and a reflection of the desire of the arab/Moroccan world to accommodate the traveller with the best luxury and style that the host can afford. The furnishings are exquisite, the fabrics delicious and the desire to make your stay memorable is unforgettable. The roof terrace offers views across the medina from the highest point and is an unforgettable breakfast location. Lolanda - our host - (I think I've interpreted her name correctly) is an Italian/Sicilian who speaks fluent French, English, Spanish (and presumably her native Italian and Arabic and probably other languages as well) and who is the most superb manager and interpreter of travellers' dreams that I have encountered. Enjoy the experience!

The stairs to the top floors are steep, tortuous and narrow. If you have heart/breathing problems we suggest you seek 1st or ground floor rooms. No help was offered to get our luggage up to the roof terrace room ....or any room come to that!.
Eating in the Riad is probably a good choice. We didn't make that choice and discovered the other offerings to be less than acceptable. If you establish your preferences with Lolanda and her team you'll be likely to get what you want rather than what the local restaurant proprietors imagine you want.

Room Tip: It's an old and traditional building - don't expect a lift/elevator

We stayed there for 4 nights in October during round the country trip in Morocco. This is definitely the place to go for anyone looking forward to a peaceful oasis in the midst of the bustle and hustle in the medina of Fes. The Riad is located just at the edge of the medina, and it's just about 5-10min walk to the Blue Gate (entrance medina). The place is nicely decorated, it gives a very Moroccan air but the facilities in the room is very modern and everything is well maintained. This is the only riad / hotel (among the 6 we had stayed in different places) that so successfully and thoughtfully combined traditional decoration with modern facilities. But most importantly of all is their service. The staff are very attentive and very nice to us, it helped us to fit in right from the start. The manageress, who speaks excellent English on top of French (if not more), are ready to help always. From receiving our call at 10:30pm just b/c we wanted some fresh towel (the night receptionist spoke little English) to arranging our day excursions, giving us directions, etc. etc. We just couldn't give all the details here. In short, everything just surpasses our expectations, and it is the best place we had stayed in Morocco.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room Alia, on the roof, so we have to climb flights of stairs up and down. It's not...

We had a fabulous visit; we were made to feel right at home; one of the family.
Everyone was kind and generous.
The Riad is situated near the main entrance of the old city
This is the only place to stay in Fes.

Room Tip: All are fabulous!

We stayed at Riad Layla for 4 nights in June. It's a very pretty place, already inside of the labyrinth of streets of the medina with its markets and monuments, yet just on the edge so it's also easy to get taxis to get to further places.
The place itself is gorgeous, and is very nicely decorated.
The staff is very nice and accommodating, and the stay was very pleasant.

Room Tip: The only downside of the Mezzanine room is the bathroom (including toilet) being just next to the be...

The Riad Layla has a nice decoration/style and the staff is friendly. However, some low points were remarked:
a) minors problems in the room (heater not functioning during one night in wintertime, problem in the room key and central lamp not working);
b) we checked out early in the morning, about 7 am, before the Riad's breakfast time. Differently from others riads we stayed in Morocco, when we had to leave early as well, we were not offered at least a simplified breakfast. This low point is not considered an error in the Riad's procedures, but it was seen a sort of minor lack of courtesy compared to others riads; and
c) the most important point that influenced decisevily the final evaluation – I and my wife had a gastroentiritis because of the food served during the dinner at our last night in the Riad. The dinner was expensive (25 euros per person) in relation to the Moroccan restaurants, but the food was not well conserved. This fact spoiled the following week of our travel, since we had health problems.

Excelent choice if you're planning to stay inside the Medina (Fez el-Bali). Easy to locate, due to the excellent location, it's easy to walk to the Bab Boujoloud, getting inside the Medina and visit the most important sites. The hotel is fully renovated, the staff is very friendly and polite. The only problem was the wi-fi connection, not very stable, and not working all times. Recommended!
