“Wow!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

Every gate in Fes is worth walk too and through. I thought the blue one was the most beautiful of all but it's up to you. Good luck finding them all!

“Bab Boujeloud”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

We were told the tour of the Souk and the narrow streets of Fes were onsuitable for wheelchairs. So we could not go ... so we hailed a taxi (40 dirhams after haggle -) maybe because we put a wheelchair in the boot it counted as the daily giving of alms?) and asked to be dropped at the Royal Palace at the BAB SEBAH here there is a wide square outside the Royal Palace and a tree shaded small riverside mill just inside the outer ramparts. From there you soon drop down to the first gate of the BOUJELOUD gardens. A lovely place with geranium beds and other flowers stone urns gravel paths sweeping round to avoid the steps but very helpful gardeners rushed to help carry if we'd let them. ( Barbara with help can do steps) but three gardeners fought to carry the wheelchair anyway and They refused a tip - and this turned out to be the mood of the day we never get pesterd by touts nor scroungers like a French reviewer seems to be. At 8 am there seems to be only one otherway out of the park so we toured the whole place in a circular tour -there was an orange tree shedding its fruit into that mill stream we'd seen higher up. So we came out near the AMAZING Boujeloud Gate. On one side of it the tiles are blue, on the other they are green; inside the gate the Souks and Medersas and mosques and fountains of Fes Medina begin. We saw EVERYTHING we-e-e-ll MORE than the rest of the tour did. We saw them intermittently as we skirted tight little alleys in the darkest parts of the city streets. They did not go into the FELLmongers yards or into the dyers souk; we saw them leaving one of the Medersa as we left by a separate door (the one with easier wider steps to negotiate); they did not sit near the mosaic tiled Nejjarin Fountain and they certainly did not get down to the tanneries below the Place Seffarine with its quirky covered shops selling anything from the old fashioned black typewriters (who still uses those in this age of portable lap tops?); singer sewing machines and army gas masks -( the latter may be more useful up at the Felmongers yard where the meat and offal still clings to the Fell and the floor is strewn with even less savoury detritus) however here is where the locals shop at corner sooks with halal butchers and where beans are sold by the sackful to be carried home by the cheap taxis or buses that ply from the bottom gateway of the medina - the BAB er Rcif. See my review of the Restaurant ASMAE. There we are then, Three main gates for the price of two taxis - what a good bargain (the second taxi only cost us 20 Dirham, too!.

“A grand entrance to step back in to with.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

As you walk through the gate, get ready to go back in time. The change of atmosphere and energy is quite unique and maybe overwhelming in the beginning. don't for get to breath and take in the sites and energy from the people.

“Pretty entrance gate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

This is a very pretty gate with the sun shining on the blue tiles. Once you are out of the gate it is kind of hard to get a photo of it with all of the taxi hubbub going on. And lots of people activity right inside the gate as well.

“Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012 via mobile

We had a guide that explained the colours and designs on the gate - would recommend getting a guide for 150dh for 3 hours as it makes the experience much more interesting!

Definitely worth a visit when you come ( there are lots of restaurants nearby that will try to get you to have a drink/ food but the food is great so would recommend that too!!)
