I spent many hours on Google before finding and deciding to book the Dar Drissi. We arrived on 3rd of June to attend the wedding of my half sister. The approach to the hotel was fantastic! The street gets smaller and smaller and you end up walking between two house walls, no more than 70 cm apart! You get to a sign for Dar Drissi and you´re home. We stayed in the largest of the 4 rooms which is on the first floor and has a large en-suite bathroom with shower, bath, loo and basin-excellent and very nicely done. There is also a balcony/mezzanine which overlooks the internal court yard and the fountain below.
My husband had lost his passport and couldn´t come so I travelled with our 2 children and we shared the 4 bedroom room. We had plenty of space and were very comfortable. The rooms are cleaned daily and there a fresh towels and soap. It is a quiet place and we slept well, although I did use earplugs as I always do when in a new place....There is a large terrace on the roof with a sofa, and although we didn´t, you could spend the night up there. Kibir, the manager, could not have been more helpful and provided excellent breakfast every morning. He was also totally charming and gave good advice on where to go and what to see. We spent hours walking and looking at the medina but normally came back for a shower or quick breather before running out again. This dar is in a brilliant and convenient location and you only walk a few minutes before getting to the nearest gate, Ain-Zleten, where you can catch a petit taxi to wherever. There is a pharmacy a couple of minutes away. The Dar Drissi was like coming in to your very own home. My aunt and uncle were also staying and the only other guests were three other travellers who had the ground floor room. We bought food at the supermarket outside the medina and prepared supper at home in the kitchen a couple of times. We were met with nothing but kindness and warmth. Very little to no hazzling to buy anything. Charming smiles and lots of "tres jolie" at my daughter who had her hands hennaed the last day-The Dar Drissi just a lovely place and this is where I would stay again- I would not want to be anywhere else!

Hidden away from the bustle of the main thoroughfares of the medina is Dar Drissi, a recently restored, stylish guest house. Traditional methods have been employed to provide comfort and modern amenities without destoying the integrity of this beautiful old dar. The manager, Kabir, ensured that our stay ran very smoothly, from the taxi at the airport to the guided walk through increasingly twisting and narrow lanes to the house to help with organising outings beyond Fez and locating delightful restaurants that we really would not have found by ourselves. Breakfasts were plentiful and varied and included gallons of cafetiere coffee - a must in the morning! Rooms have ensuite facilities and extremely comfortable beds. You could not have a more convenient base for exploring the medina. When relaxing is required the roof terrace provides panoramic views of the old city. I recommend getting a booking in while you still can.

Dar Drissi is in a fantastic location within the walls of the medina. It is easily accessible and on arrival the dar manager will meet you and guide you through the streets to this oasis of calm! Beautifully renovated, Dar Drissi offers the ideal place to relax and unwind whether travelling on your own, as a small group or even renting the hotel with a group of friends. Room are varied in size and very comfortable all with en suite facilities. The roof terrace - decked with sofas and shade to protect you from the heat of the day - provides a wonderful panorama over the roof tops of Fez.

Breakfast is served - with a smile - in the lower main room every morning: basic but ample. You can use the kitchen facilities downstairs and on the roof at your convenience.

The manager arranges for you to be collected and returned to the airport, will arrange trips out of the city and book restaurants. Nothing seemed too much trouble. When he didn't know where a recommended restaurant was, he went out and found it before guiding us there!

The people of Fez are welcoming and accommodating. They have a warmth and charm which is rare to find these days.

Great city for a short break. Wonderful people. Grand accommodation.

Firstly, the stress of finding the guest house was taken off our shoulders as a cab was sent to meet us at the airport and then we were met and escorted to the house.

We approached Dar Drissi via narrow winding alleys typical of the medina - it felt like stepping back in time. The unremarkable front door opened unexpectedly into a magnificent courtyard with an underlit central fountain which was a beautiful introduction to our stay. The guest house manager was very friendly and helpful and our room was superb. We had booked the 'grand salon' which was comfortable, clean and had a private balcony overlooking the courtyard. I think the best part of the house were the two roof terraces and the view from the top terrace over the roofs of the medina was fabulous. A little cold at night in January to spend too much time up there after early evening but would like to return in April/May and be able to enjoy nightimes on the roof.

Breakfasts were good and there was always freshly squeezed orange juice, a choice of local breads and eggs.

there was an excellent guest information book providing good tips about shopping and eating in the medina and the manager was able to answer any queries we had.

We are definitely intending to return

Fourth visit to the medina love the buzz, love the people, love Dar Drissi. Kabir, the manager was friendly, helpful and fun to have around. Wonderful mixture of very warm days, chilly mornings and evenings with the heaters and hot water bottles adding to the comfort. Discovered two new places to eat. Restaurant Famille Berrada offers incredibly cheap delicious food, especially for non meat eaters and Fez Cafe, 13 Akbat Sbaa - Douh, more upmarket and expensive but amazing food and surroundings, just lacks the numerous kisses and handstands of the owner!
Altogether another wonderful stay and definately recommend Dar Drissi.
