“Great hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

Riad Ahlam is beautifully appointed and a great place to stay if you are visiting Fes. On my recent visit, the staff was extremely attentive and accommodating. The beautifully tiled central courtyard with its lovely fountain was a relaxing place to unwind and sip mint tea after a day of meandering in the narrow passages of the medina. Here I enjoyed the best tagine in all of Morocco that was prepared by the cook. In fact, I liked it so much that I ordered the same lamb tagine with prunes the following night. If you plan to have your meal at the Riad, it is best to order it early in the day. All meals are specially prepared for you. On the day of my departure, I had to leave very early in the morning. The cook insisited on preparing a delicious breakfast before I left. I can't say enough about kindness of the staff here.

My room was spacious with a beautiful bathroom and it overlooked the courtyard. The furnishings were comfortable and appealing. If I have the good fortune to return to Morocco, this will be my first stop.

This riad is an easy easy 5 minute walk from the gate where your driver will drop you off. The manager will walk with you and the luggage cart man to the door...offer you mint tea (always) and register you with kindness and tranquility. Close to the {blue gate) for all your casual meals (n9ne seems better than theother) . Easy strolling,,,beautiful rooms,,lovely courtyard for breakfasts...reasonable prices and delightful staff.

This is by far the best riad we stayed during our vacation in Morocco. The location is perfect, close to the main streets. The staff was helpful and very nice to us. We asked a lot of questions and they were always happy to help us. The rooms are fabulous. The breakfast was at least 3 times bigger and better than all other places we have been. They were handing us water freely. Even if it doesn't cost much, it is easier to get water from the riad than to bargain it in the streets! Other riads I won't name were ripping off customers by selling water 10x the street price. The suite we had on the second floor was very nice. It was quiet, clean and comfortable.

Room Tip: Higher floors are always better in a Riad.

Riad Ahlam is a well-presented traditional Moroccan home. It is located just outside of the medina and easily accessible by taxi from the main transport hubs. Ask to go to the Ain Azliten car park.

It is literally a 20 metre walk from the car park, but we paid a porter who showed us exactly where to go for 20dhs. Worth it upon arrival in the 40 degree heat.

We were kindly upgraded to a suite at no extra cost. The furnishings were typically Moroccan and very nice. Breakfast in the courtyard was amazing. Moroccan hospitality is generally very good and this Riad was no exception. We left a little bit early on our last day to catch the train to Marrakesh, the night staff kindly allowed us to have breakfast an hour early. And by breakfast I mean a full size breakfast, not just something for the road.

All of the staff were great, but particular praise goes to Kacem during the day and the man who worked the night shift. These guys are working 12 to 14 hour days/nights and always have a smile on their face. Something we could learn from in Aus.

Kacem was very helpful in finding us restaurant bookings (see review of Dar Hatim). He also booked us a walking tour of the medina, which was very worthwhile and a trip to Voloubilis by car. Not Kacem's fault but make sure you ask for a car with air-con. We travelled for 2 hours in 42 degree heat and for us it was a bit hard to handle without air-con.

Our walking tour was great and highly recommended. People recommend not shopping with your tour guide, because you will pay commission, which is true. However, there is always room for negotiation in Morocco and we really saw the best homewares, lanterns, leather goods etc. when we were with our guide. You get what you pay for, but remember nothing is ever fixed price.

Overall a great Riad and a great experience in Fes.

Riah Ahlam is such a pretty, well maintained mansion. It was a pleasure to stay here for 3 nights. The location is fantastic, 2 min walk into the medina, very conveniently located for hailing taxicabs. The manager and staff are wonderful, always ready to help, and answer your questions. One of the nights we had dinner at the Riad, and it was outstanding! We looked forward to breakfast every morning. It was yummy!! The views from the rooftop of the Fes-el-Bali are sweeping and gorgeous. You can see sunrise and sunset over the medina from here. We spent every night on the rooftop, listening to music, looking at the starry nightsky. This is the ultimate place for relaxation. Wifi in the rooms is spotty but is available in the corridors and in the main lounge. Overall, I would highly recommend Riad Ahlam.

This Riad was the most authentic we stayed in during our holiday in Morrocco. It is very well located near the Medina but is very quiet and calm. The breakfast was amazing and we had a very good dinner one evening as well. The staff were kind and helpful and recommended a guide as well as places to visit. The room was cool and very clean with a lovely bathroom. I thoroughly recommend this Riad.

We had a fantastic time staying at this Riad. The place is really quite amazing to look at, it is one of the most beautiful Riads we saw during our stay in Morocco. Our room was large, clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was huge. This Riad is just a minute from the Medina, and is very easy to access, as the Medina carpark is just out the front. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was also great. One morning we had to get up very early and they were happy to arrange an early breakfast, even though the staff were not working at that time. Also, we managed to forget to leave our key at the hotel, and we sent the key back via CTM bus, they were fine to go pick up the key and the issue was handled very professionally. Highly recommend. Thanks very much!
