“Probably one of the better Riads”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014

We stayed here for about 4 days and the Riad is pretty nice, although basic, it does have an authentic feel to it. Its quite large and has some lovely views from the rooftop. The rooms we stayed in were not as spacious, and could have used a few more 'travel friendly' features. Overall it was comfortable, but I wouldn't say luxurious.
The location is on the edge of the walled city but easy to get in and out of the Medina. Food wasn't bad. Staff were pleasant. They probably should have a word with the local shop owner next door who seemed to jump out every time we came in and out of the main doors trying to force us into hiring him as a guide. That got annoying!

Room Tip: The standard rooms really are small, so worth upgrading to get a little more space.

We are very glad that you enjoyed the authenticity of the palais. It is an aspect that is important to us and we are pleased tot hear that we are succeeding!
I thank you also for bringing up the issue you seem to have had with one of the neighboring traders, although had you told us directly we could have perhaps intervened at the time.
Of course the traders in the medina are all trying to earn a living, and generally if you smile and say you'll be back later/another time/not just now, they smile back too and leave it at that. This appears however not to have been the case in your experience.
Whilst we cannot be responsible for the behavior of people beyond our doors, I am sorry if this clouded your stay with us and we will bring this to the attention of the tourist police to make sure that clients in future are not hassled.

We stayed at Palais Amani during our 3 night stay in Fes, and the courtyard and terrace were just as beautiful as the photos on the website promised. Additionally, the staff seemed very eager to please, and provided great service.

Unfortunately, there were some aspects of the accommodations that were less than stellar: Our room was directly below the staff lounge/storage room, so every night at midnight when staff members would go off their shift, we would hear them very loudly going in and out of the room, getting their stuff, etc.

The other, bigger issue was that the hotel has a roach problem. We saw a couple of dead roaches in the common areas of the hotel, and on our last night a giant (as in 3 inch/7.5 cm long) cockroach dropped out of the air vent in our room and started crawling towards our suitcase. Being woken up by the staff making noise became less of an issue at that point, because we were definitely not able to fall asleep after seeing that!

Additionally, on our last day we both got food poisoning, resulting in 24 hours of vomiting and diarrhea, which seems unsurprising in retrospect -- a hotel with a roach problem is probably not going to have the cleanest kitchen.

I'd like to thank you for the time to share you appreciation of the hotel, we do our utmost to make our guests stay an enjoyable one and I can see from your comments that the great service that the entire Amani team provide was appreciated by you during your stay.

Concerning the noise in the building, it is true that the Palais amani is an old building with traditional mosaic tiling throughout that, although stunningly beautiful, has the disadvantage of making noise carry. The team is very aware of this problem and generally the staff try to minimize the noise. If this was not the case during your stay then I apologize for the disturbance you experienced, the protocol needs to be tightened up and I thank you for bringing it to our attention..

The next issue is more delicate. Yes in Morocco, as in most major cities in the world, there are pests. But specific to Morocco, the roaches as you call them, are much larger than those one might see in Europe. If you are not used to their size, they are impressive.
As in all respectable hotel and restoration establishments, at the Palais Amani we have a contract with a pest control company that inspect and carry out a preventative treatment every two weeks. The problem with roaches (that contrary to popular belief are not a sign of lack of hygiene, but more a sign of warm temperature and a comfortable environment) is that once treated they come out of 'hiding' to die. As your visit to us coincided with a treatment, it is natural that you may see dead roaches. The team are extra vigilant during this time. The one that came out of your air vent is an unfortunate occurrence, and once again I apologize, and although we do everything to assure that the guests are not disturbed by this, in your case we didn't succeed.
I can hear your discomfort, and am sorry. But to link your unfortunate stomach upset with the sighting is unfounded and to jump to the conclusion that it was a result of something eaten at the Palais is unjustifiable.

We don't need to qualify our statement when we say that *every* member of the staff at Palais Amani went above and beyond in making our stay an amazing one. You could tell that the staff pays attention to every detail to make everyone's stay a special one: a small gift of slippers when you check in, mint tea at tea time served in your room, secluded tables in the courtyard garden for dining... When we mentioned that we had inadvertently left our previous riad in Marrakech with their keys, the Palais Amani manager offered to arrange for them to be sent back so we wouldn't need to bother with it during our stay.

The grounds and the building are spectacular. The shaded courtyard stays cool during the day under the trees, and the evening cocktails on the rooftop terrace were the perfect way to cap off a long day exploring the city. The bed in the bedroom offered one of our best nights sleep we've had in traveling through Europe and Morocco.

Make sure to take advantage of the on-site hamman and restaurant during your stay - both are just as impressive as the hotel itself. We are already dreaming about coming back for another stay!

An absolutely incredible experience! Cannot fault any aspect of it!! The staff were wonderful, they were always there to help in any way they could. The palace itself was a stunning oasis in the Medina! There were so many touches (like water bottles provided daily, local sweets, weather forecast, rose petals etc.) that made the stay one of the best we've ever had. Thank you so much!!

We spent three nights in this carefully hidden Riad style hotel. We werre greeted by Yolanda whose charm made us feel at home at once. Our room looked out onto the spacious gardens and fountain. Breakfast was served right outside our room to the music of the bubbling fountain. It was a peaceful way to start each day. The hotel is a walk from the parking lot- including some steps- through some medieval passageways. It adds to the romance if you are ok with steps. The food was Moroccon style. Well prepared, creatively presented and pleasantly served. In a town of filled with regular hotels, this is a unique and wonderful alternative. Try it

An oasis awaited us as we walked thought the door from the maze of simple narrow streets of the medina. It's amazing just what can exist behind a seemingly small edifice. From the tranquil courtyard to the view from the terrace bar, our stay was a highlight of our trip to Morocco. Enjoyed the traditional breakfast with a modern twist. Service is polite and attentive; rooms were well appointed albeit small - as we understand it, because we booked a room with twin/separate beds. Nevertheless, an exotic, luxurious experience.

After carefully wading through the thick Moroccan afternoon dusk, we discovered this absolutely gorgeous hotel. Palais Amani is distinct, ornate and a great choice. The staff are friendly, charming and are keen to point out some local secrets. We enjoyed the locally sourced breakfast and even though it's stuck in the bustling centre of the Medina, this is a uniquely classy joint. Having stayed at other Hotels in the City, this is genuinely one of my favourites and a great location to idle away the hours, bartering with the locals!!

Hi, that was a good choice thank you very much indeed.
Now the weather is very nice, the breakfast is serving on the terrace.
Actually, it is very joyful when you are having the breakfast on the terrace
and the bird-carols come from the garden.
