“Fantastic - hidden gem - pure luxury!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2012

We stayed at Palais Amani for two nights (March 11 and 12, 2012).

This beautiful boutique hotel was the perfect hotel for us.
I am positive it is the best hotel anyone can stay in in Fes.

The hotel is located in the Medina of Fes - the old city.
When we first arrived, which was at night time, we were a bit wary of what we were about to find, since our car didn't go inside the medina and we had to leave the car and walk through some narrow streets before arriving at Palais Amani. And from the outside, it looked like a small building on a small, old street. But once we stepped inside, we were blown away. Palais Amani is a gorgeous property. We were not expecting to find the piece of heaven it is behind those walls.

Palais Amani was a magical experience. Little touches from the wet refreshing towels and mint tea offered upon arrival to the chocolate truffles and the next day's weather put on the bed at turndown service make all the difference and makes Palais Amani stand apart from the rest - it is all in the details.

Staying at Palais Amani is experiencing pure luxury - no expense was spared to ensure the guests enjoy the utmost comfort and quality in everything - from the heavenly soft and puffy comforter and pillows to the hairdryer in the bathrooms, everything was high end.

The owner was actually there to personally make sure every guest was as happy and relaxed as could be. He is an incredible human being - it is very easy and clear to see that he cares not only about his guests, but also about his employees a great deal. He is an extraordinary person, and it was a true pleasure to meet him and stay at his fantastic hotel.

The staff of Palais Amani go above and beyond to ensure a perfect stay.
For instance, it was my mother's birthday, and the owner, the chef and the kitchen staff surprised her with a beautiful birthday cake with her name written on the plate around the cake in Arabic.

It was an unforgettable experience and we hope to be back!

Short summary:

Pro:
- Beautifully restored, architectural property
- Gorgeous terrace with chaise-lounges and views of the city
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Refreshing towels and tea upon arrival
- Luxury boutique hotel
- Attentive staff and owner who devote lots of personal attention and go above and beyond to ensure satisfaction
- Beautiful, brand new Moroccan slippers given to guests as a gift upon arrival
- Chocolate truffles and the next day's forecast left on the pillow at turndown service
- Fresh cookies also offered
- Highest quality of everything used in the rooms (from the sink to the hair dryer to the iphone dock)

Cons:
- No conditioner or tooth brush offered in the bathroom
- Massage table could be more comfortable / towel needs to be put between massage table and face

My wife and I chose this boutique hotel after reading about it in Conde Nast Traveler magazine. This riad style hotel on the eastern edge of the Fes Medina is only 3 years old and has been lovingly restored to its original splendor by its Moroccan owner Abdel. Once you enter from the small main entrance and take in the riad's beautiful courtyard for the first time, you will be treated to an experience of a lifetime.
If you are lucky you might be greeted personally by the owner Abdel, an extremely
gracious and personable man, who will after sharing mint tea and Moroccan biscuits with you, take you to your deluxe suite himself to show you all the various amenities.

We booked the standard classic suite and it was lovely. Everything was fresh and looked brand new. The Moroccan tiling and fine woodwork and accessories were impressive. The BR was top notch with the most modern finishes.

The service was that of a 5 star hotel, discreet but anticipatory. Everyone worked very hard to make sure your stay is 100% to your satisfaction. The breakfast was included in the room rate and it was wholesome and healthy. We had dinner twice in the pretty dining room. It was a fixed 3 course meal and it was excellent. There are no dining options within walking distance of the hotel, so eating in makes a lot of sense.
On the other hand, most of the important sites are withing 30 minutes walk of the riad. That being said I still recommend a guide to give you an overview of the amazing Medina on your first day there. The Riad can set that up for you at reasonable price.
All in all this is an extraordinary boutique hotel and really there is no other option to stay in Fes for my money. You will not go wrong with this choice.

Room Tip: second floor room has more light. first floor might be a bit noisy from traffic

We stayed for a long weekend and my wife who is not a keen traveller was apprehensive. No need once we entered and saw the courtyard we knew it was going to be fine. Our room was comfortable and well furnished and the bathroom a gem. We were able to enjoy the terrace since it was sunny and it was easy to find from the Medina. We are recommending this hotel to our friends.

Room Tip: We had 10 is was great.

Palais Amani is beautiful. A feast for the senses. It provides an oasis of tranquility right in the Medina. It has been thoughtfully restored with absolute respect to the past as well as being thoroughly up to date. All the rooms and bathrooms are spacious. The beds and linen top quality. There is great attention to detail. The tiles throughout are worthy of paintings. The central courtyard has either shade or sun, an elegant fountain, lovely planting with well established lemon trees the fruit of which are used in the cooking. The roof terrace has great views and is a perfect place to relax. My favourite times there were sunrise and sunset, a perfect place to see the day in and out. The staff are welcoming and helpful. The service manages to be both friendly and discrete. I have stayed there twice and love it. It's a great place to make excursions from, and to come back to. Their shampoo is my favourite in the world!

The first time traveller flying over the geometric patterns of olive groves and brilliant green wheat fields of central Morocco before landing can never be prepared for the swift arrival into the middle ages that awaits him/her in Fez Medina.
A discreet door in the narrow alley bustling with shrouded figures, overladen donkeys and running laughing school children opens into a haven of peace and beauty. Mosaic pillars soar through tall lemon trees, a fountain is playing, you are offered mint tea and a warm hand towel. You have arrived in the fairy tale world of Palais Amani...

brilliantly placed for sorties into the medina conducted -if you are very lucky- by the boss himself who knows and is known by everybody. the building is more than beautiful; the renovation is faultless, with additions guilefully in perfect tone, and all the necessary modern elements in perfect taste.
