“Pleasant Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

Based on some of the previous reviews, we were prepared for the worst. But there aren't many budget places that we could find online, so we thought we would give it a shot. The front desk staff were very pleasant and made their best attempt to fit us in, despite the fact that we didn't have a reservation. We stayed in a family room which was very basic, but met all our needs. The bathrooms had really hot water and most importantly - water pressure. In fact, this hostel had the best showers that we experienced during our entire two weeks. Breakfast is very simple - bread and jam, tea or coffee - not that filling for us. We checked out the hotel down the road, which is twice the price, and the rooms are much nicer, but we are on a budget. The surrounding area is under construction, but offers cheap places to eat, 10 minutes to Hassan II Mosque, 10 minutes to center of town, and you are basically inside the Medina. For us, it was a very pleasant stay in Casablanca. And best of all, no one bothers you to buy stuff in the Medina.

Room Tip: If you are a couple, you might want to book online as men and women are not allowed in the same dorm...

We checked into the hostel after arriving from Essaoira and without doing any research as my friend and I are going for cheap and it was given a pretty good review in the Lonely Planet guide. The guy at the front desk spoke barely any English and the place looked super dirty and had flies buzzing around and a bunch of older Moroccan men hangin out in the common room and no younger travelers around. I like to stay in hostels because of the comraderie and there just wasnt any here. The rooms were smelly and there wasn't any toilet paper in the women's restroom. There wasn't any locks on the room doors nor any lockers to lock your stuff up in. In the end , we didn't feel safe and asked for a refund and stayed at the hotel a few doors down

Arrived straight from the airport at about 1am, and even though we obviously woke the staff up, he was friendly and helpful. Had a twin private room which spelt a bit musty but was clean and relatively comfortable, and bedding was fine, and it was quiet which was ace. Showers were lukewarm. Breakfast was simple but fine. Staff were helpful and they let us keep our bags there after we checked out. Had to pay with cash, but so cheap this wasn't a problem! Taxi drivers don't always know where it is, so show them your map :)

The reason of our stay in this place was location. We decided to go to sleep in Casablanca only because our plane landed late afternoon and we needed a place to wait for morning. It was easy to go there from the airport and then relatively easy from station to hostel.
We got twin room without an external window, with old beds, no covers. No hot or warm water in the bathroom.
Breakfast (rather OK) included.

Stay there in april/09. The pictures in the website are nice, but the hostel is anything but. Dirty, with a less than helpful staff. There were no hot water in the men's bathroom, and it was quite cold, so I had to go to pay to get a decent shower at Hamman everyday. The only good thing about it is the location, close to the Great Mosque and inside the medina...

Perhaps the "welcome" from the surly staff ("Do you have a room available?" -"*sigh* Yes." ............... "Um, well, can we see it?") should have warned us off, but, tired after nine hours on a bus we stayed in a cold little room that stank of BO, had filthy blankets (no real sheets to speak of), was full of hungry mosquitoes and echoed with the smallest noise from elsewhere in the hostel. The bathrooms were dirty, lacked toilet paper, the mens' showers cold, the ladies' not much better. Not worth it - hotels nearby outside the medina are cheaper, friendlier and better kept.
