We had been to the apocalyptic Morocco Mall and were facing a lunch of 50 euros a head on the Corniche. Khalid asked a taxi driver for a maatam chaabi (home style restaurant). We were dropped off at Snack Amine.
If you're looking for elegant dining, this is not the place. If you're ready for a super helping of a mixed fried fish platter, come here and dig in. For 125 dirhams for two, we ate our fill and then some, bread and charmoula (dipping sauce) included. There were several varieties of whole fried fish with a mound of calamar and shrimp on top.
The scene is a whirlwind at lunch time, so don't get upset if you have to ask twice for a Fanta. It's not the Ritz, but great value, and IT IS THE REAL MOROCCO. You're visiting the almost third world, for heaven's sake!
