“Great location, Horrible service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2010

We stayed at the Kenzi Tower Hotel for one night in October 2010. The outside of the hotel and lobby is beautifully decorated. However, the service we received from the staff at the front desk was rude and in my opinion, unacceptable for a hotel that claims 5 status.

The Service - We arrived about 3 pm on a Wednesday afternoon, and although the lobby was not busy, it took about 15 mins for the woman to check us in. The lady who was helping us had a very snotty attitude and even made a comment about my husband in French, thinking that he did not understand what she was saying. At checkout, the woman behind the desk (Wafaa) very rudely informed my husband that "her system was correct" when he questioned our bill. We also noticed that the other guests - mostly business - were quite rude and seemed very self important. More than once another guest tried to cut in front of us while we were waiting at the front desk. If you have to be somewhere to catch a train or a flight, make sure you leave lots of time for check out, they are incredibly slow at the front desk. The only positive service we received was from the concierge who arranged our airport transfer (300 dirhams) and gave us good directions to the old Medina.

The Room - We had a room on the 19th floor, it was spacious, comfortable and had a wonderful view of the city. The bathroom was somewhat clean (a cleverly placed bath robe was hiding a big brown stain in the shower stall), and spacious as well. The bed was comfortable, although we had minor issues with the tv remote.

The Location - The location is very good with several small cafes right down the street. We tried one cafe for breakfast and even stopped back later for ice cream, the food was very good and the ice cream desserts were excellent.

The Extras - I wanted to use the fitness center in the morning before leaving, but unfortunately in this hotel it is part of the "spa" and does not open until 9 am. That was surprising since most hotels open their fitness facilities at 6 or 7 am. On our first day, we went to have a late lunch at the 2nd floor restaurant shortly after arrival (about 3:30 pm), but they would not serve us saying they were closed, although we clearly saw other people dining in the restaurant at that time. We shrugged it off and went somewhere else.

The biggest problem with this hotel is the poor service and the bad attitude of the staff. Considering the $230 per night rate we paid (including city tax), I felt the accommodations were good, but I would not stay here again.

As a note to fellow travelers-we paid 30 dirhams for a taxi from Casa Voyagers station to the hotel (20 for transport and an additional 10 for our bags). But we did have to negotiate a while to get that rate.

"Twin Towers", this is how the people in Casablanca name this highest building in town, consequently the view is fantastic. The Restaurant on the top level is the perfect place for business meetings, expensive, but one of the view spots in the city were you can see the sea. In the other tower there is a Shopping Centre selling international and local goods, ideal when you have little time to find a gift for your wife.

The hotel is in a nice location of Casablanca located in one of the two twin towers visible from various locations. While the hotel looks very nice, well equipped and quite fancy in certain parts, the room had not enough ventilation and the windows could not be opened. The staff service at the reception desk was very poor. They could not find my reservation (at 24.00 hrs.) and kept me for about 50 minutes trying to locate it while thay had enough rooms to offer us accomodation while settling their issues. They were also unable to confirm the price of the double room and promised to come back to us the next morning, something that they never did. During the afternoon, they could not exchange euros with the argument that they did not have enough cash, asking the clients to show again after 2 hours.

At 2300 hrs when asked to pay the bill because of very early flight the next morning, they were unable to give cash change in euro/dollar and promised to make arrangements for having enough change in a couple of hours. The next receptionist on duty at 02.00 in the morning presented the same excuse and as a client that had to leave quickly for the aiport, we had no choice but to accept 70 Euros in the local currency.

Each time we asked for sth we were requested to show again in a couple of hours with the promise that the issue would be referred to the next colleague and manager. This never happened and each time we had to start discussions from zero without finding a solution. The hotel bill also contained one drink from the minibar, which was removed upon our pressure.

I stayed in this hotel for 6 nights, during a business trip.
Positive points:
- Rooms are spacious and comfortable,
- there is big variety of TV channels as well as free on demand movies (classics) in various main languages,
- there is a good bar and excellent restaurant on the top floors.
Negative points:
- Bathroom had on regular basis, a awful smell coming from the drains.
- Internet is apparently free in the lobby, BUT extremely expensive in the rooms, at around 35 euro for 24 hours !!!!! When i told them that this was double what you pay in some hotels in Europe (which is already expensive) i was told first that no, it's not more expensive then in Europe, and anyway, that was also the prices in other hotels in Casablanca... What an argument ! With the prices of the rooms, i think that Internet should be included. These are really services that don't cost the hotel much, once it's installed. If 1 guest or 50 are connecting, it costs them the same price !!! That really makes you feel like they're only after your money. We know that already, but that should not be SO obvious !! Needless to say i didn't use their internet. If they had "normal" rates, i would have used it every night, so they should review their financial logic....
- Service is not really professional, and some employees (reception and front door security) have an attitude problem. When i brought back a bottle of water one evening from outside, they told me at the entrance that i wasn't allowed to bring it in !!!! I just passed them, and brought it in with me anyway, but what a shame they should have !!!! Of course, they would prefer you to pay 8 euro for a small bottle from the minibar !!! I could understand someone bringing hot food from outside, but even that should be allowed, in such a hotel, with such prices, but a bottle of water !!!
It's a pity, because it's the small things that make all the difference, between a comfortable or uncomfortable stay. This hotel has a very good potential, but not optimized unfortunately. And it's definitely NOT a 5 star on European standard.

I travelled alone in March 2010 in Casa, Morocco and stayed at Kenzi Tower hotel for 3 nights. The staff was friendly and supportive. The Hotel is part of a large business hub in the center of Casa. Majority of attractions and beach is in 2-3 kms radius. The rooms are spacious and clean, breakfast very nice.

Don't forget to visit the roof top bar and resturent.

Overall a worthy experience.

-Internet not working. IT service not available. Always saying that someone will come but never come infact.
-Dspite a voucher from the company, they insisted in having a pre-autorisation for twice the cost of the room. Once the autorisation validated by the bank, they wrote down in a non secure peace of paper, the full details of the credit card.
-At check out, some false extras were add to the invoice (also in the invoices of the collegues).
The aim of the hotel is not to serve the client but to extract as much money as possible.

Let's start with the positives, the staff are super friendly, room service was fast, the bed was comfortable, the TV choices are endless.
The bathroom is huge, but, one sink did not work (there are 2) one showerhead was broken (there are 3). The bathroom door handle was broken. The in room coffee machine was broken (they repaired it the day I informed them), the in room coffee/tea is not free, it is 3 Euro for a pod of coffee which makes 1 cup, or 1 tea bag. Room service is good, but over priced and do not think to try to bring in food from outside the hotel, I did see them send a couple away with their take away bags. The pool and sauna are not free for guests to use, you have to pay at the spa to access them.
Now for the bad, do not go near the O-Spa by Clarins. The staff are unprofessional, untrained and unorganized. This is the worst spa experience ever. I complained and no one cared. They ask you to arrive 15 minutes early, I did, the staff (except for one) were all late for work. The receptionist sat at her desk calling and screaming at them to get there quickly. Not relaxing! Then when the staff finally arrived, a fight broke out between it seemed maids, and spa staff. They were screaming trying to attack one another, some were trying to break it up. These uproars happened 3 times in less than 15 minutes. It was just an aweful experience, the service I had was far below average. Oh, almost forgot, the in room AC is lousy, the room was always warmer than I like.
