“Great friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

We stayed in Kamal for 3 nights in June / July. I chose this hotel after reading all the positive reviews on Trip Advisor and wasn't disappointed.
When we arrived, we managed to find a free parking space right outside the hotel which was great. We were welcomed by a receptionist who was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
We got to choose between 2 rooms. Our double room was facing the rear of the building which wasn't the best view but we were didn't have big expectations anyway considering the city centre location of the hotel and the price. Plus, there is so much to do in Agadir, why would you stay in your hotel room all day:)

The room décor was a little bit dated, but again, we had seen photos before we booked it and it met our expectations. It was spotlessly clean though and had a balcony which was great. The room was cleaned daily including a change of towels.

The breakfast served every morning was basic but very nice and again, the staff were very helpful and attentive.
The hotel has a pool and a large lounge where you can use free wireless.

Overall, Kamal is a great value for many and I would highly recommend it.

Me and my partner stayed here for 8 nights from the 6th of July. We weren't sure what to expect, and we were more then pleased with what we got. The room was basic, but this is tobe expected, you can't judge hotels abroad by english standards. The channels on the TV in the room werel imited to News, but this was okay as you dont go on holiday to watch TV?! The bed was comfy and the towels were changed each day. The bathroom facilities were okay, the hot water was fine adn the shower had good force, though it lacked a bracket so you had to hold it over you or have a bath. We requested the pool view, so we could have a balcony and not be road facing, we did get a balcony and though not over the pool, we had a nice view of the mountain, and also overlooked a cute gang of kittens, as Agadir seems to be full of alley cats. The lobby abd bar area far passed what we expected, and the hotel was absolutly spotless. I dont think i have ever stayed somewhere so clean. The pool was cool, but when the sun is out its welcome refreshment. sadly the sun isnt always out in Agadir, though it is hot, its very misty and most mornigns it stays, though sometimes it lifts.
There was free wifi in the lobby and they are friendly english speaking staff. The breakfast became a little repetative, as it was only breads but it surficed. There is no air con but you dont need it as you can leave your balcony door open and the temp outside is cooler, there are also no tea facilties in the room, though you can from the pool bar, so ifyour a die hard tea fan, take a travel kettle. we didnt drink the water there we only used bottled water.

It was only a short walk to the beach and shops, the main market was a little further, but for about 15dhs, or just over a pound you can get a taxi.

We made a mistake going during ramadam, it was unplanned, and while you can offer sympathy and respect for there choices, the locals will make you aware that they are hungry and thus grumpy. They will still serve you food, though some might not, and a lot is closed until later in the evening when they are allowed to eat. but this didnt effect the hotel at all.

All in all, i loved the hotel, and would stay there again, im not sure i would go back to the country, but thats personal choice on what you like, there is a distinct lack of tourist there, which can leave the towns dead during ramadam, or people to talk to. but with a little boost in tourism, and money this cuold be wonderful desitination.

Room Tip: Request a balcony or pool view.

The hotel is in a great location, just off of Place de l’Esperance which is also called Place Al Amal, about a 10 minute walk to the beach and very close to restaurants, cafes, the museum and parks. The room was simple but comfortable, with a very pleasant English-speaking staff and a lovely lobby with wifi. There was a nice looking private small pool off of the lobby which I didn’t use, but did lay on the beach chairs. The taxi from the bus station was about 15 dirhams and a quick ride. The hotel also has a small bar, but the selection is quite limited. Our stay included breakfast, which is served on the downstairs level and was fairly simple and bread-heavy (typical of what I’ve eaten for Moroccan breakfasts). I made reservations via their website and they were quick, responsive, and helpful. One caveat – I happened to be in Agadir during the annual Timitar festival and the hotel location is very close to one of the main stages, so it was somewhat noisy at night – so if you’re a light sleeper, it may not be the best choice during the festival. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again if I were in Agadir!

Spent 3 nights at the Kamal hotel. Staff very attentive and pool area very clean. Could do with more people to create a bit of an atmosphere though. Near the beach which was good. Worth the price we paid.

Well as you can see from my rating I really enjoy going to this hotel which I have been to for the last 10 years! The location is excellent for us as we love gallivanting in the city, up to the souks, the promenade etc. Rita and I are not "chickens"( as they say in Scotland) any more so it suits us to amble along speaking to all the restaurant folk, having a laugh, a coffee etc! Although we dont smoke or drink we still go through the money! Of course we were there for 4 weeks B&B only! Anyway, we still found the hotel to be very nice...reception area and small bar are tastefully furnished and in the small bar you can watch the soaps if you wish! There is a big TV in the reception lounge! Towels are changed daily with sheets about every 3 days....cleaning staff never stop. Reception staff are very helpful and its good that you can change money there....would recommend paying for the safe in your room....easy to operate and costs.about 10 dirhams per week.....as you need to watch your money when outside! Continental breakfast is ample and dining staff good! All in all nice small friendly hotel, very clean and good location but no entertainment in the winter anyway. We went to The Beach Club reception for dancing....quick steps etc and usually across to Ceasars Restaurant for a meal. It is really good and well priced.....often they have a singer and the moroccan people who go there are always very welcoming! We meet many friends from UK etc in Agadir so thats why we enjoy it so much. Forgot to mention the pool area which is always immaculate and Ahmed is very attentive!
There is a nice restaurant a long at the end of the promenade near the marina end called "La
Promenade" The manager Rachid is very welcoming.....very clean, well priced, good staff and nice food! Along from the Kamal to the right the restaurant Caverna has had a "make over" and so is nice for lunch or quick dinner....again good price. The Scampi next to the hotel is also good but dear. Tried the Indian restaurant on the sea front...."Bollywood" but was not enamoured and very dear! Was disappointed expected something exotic but all waiters Moroccan!! Didnt buy any nighties this time but got some lovely handbags, kaftans and lovely necklaces! Even the pierced earings could be converted to clips! Tablecloths ...linen...in the souk are a great buy with plenty of napkins...usually 12....great wedding presents which can be
nicely packaged.....But remember to bargain all the time! The souks are wonderful with all the
varied merchandise. The souk is more or less all floored now which make it easer for wheelchairs etc... definitely more spacious! Fruit and vegetables are great there also all the kitchen ware! Banks supermarkets are all near the Kamal and the pharmacy folk are all helpful.
I am going back next year for my usual month but in the meantime hope to go to Istanbul and Rome so will write more reviews. Forgot to mention as we cannot fly from Scotland to Morocco we flew from Manchester to Marrakech airport. Instead of staying overnight in Marrakech and taking the coach to Agadir the following day...about 102 dirhams pp we decided to hire a taxi at the airport to take us direct to Agadir. I booked clickexcursions.co.uk ...they were great....booking form was easy, admin excellent, answered all my queries and we only paid when we reached Agadir.....about £95 for the trip; you can pay in euros, dirhams or £. the trip takes about 4 hrs on the motorway but arriving quite late at night we thought it was wise!. The driver Houcine was excellent, stopping at a wee supermarkets for us to get some goodies! He spoke good English too and Ahmed in the office was great. Thought I had better let you know Sandy MacKay was my cat! Jeanette

Room Tip: Family Rooms opposite reception...nice and big with balcony which is a fare size. Just above the sw...

Stayed here for couple of days before heading into the anti-atlas after late flight from UK. The family room overlooking the pool was great value, and very clean. The pool was chilly but lovely and great for lane swimming, kept spotless by the helpful poolman. Breakfast is fine considering what you're paying and the staff were all very friendly.

My wife and I have just returned from a week's stay at the Kamal. Why TripAdvisor has awarded Agadir the "Destination of the Year" award, I don't know! The surrounding area (run in from the airport) is very industrialised and not a pretty site. Agadir itself is very busy with traffic, and you have to cross several major roads on your way to the beach (though if late in the morning, i.e. after 11 am, you can take the route through the Valley of the Birds which underpasses the biggest road).
The Kamal Hotel is a 1970's, dated construction offering very basic accommodation. We managed to secure a pool view (otherwise you will be overlooking a busy road), which made the nights and early mornings quieter.
Birdsong woke us each morning (which was pleasant) and the gardens offer a home to a variety of birds, some of which are not to be found in the UK.
Pool was cool, but suited the warm weather (circa 25 degrees) perfectly, providing a cooling dip midday. Pool terrace area was well maintained by the pool attendant/gardener who was happy to rush around fetching covers for the loungers as needed (well worth a tip).
The bar houses the only satellite TV (Eastenders, Corry, midweek football et al), the one in the bedroom only offering the BBC News channel, a EuroNews channel and one or two others (German, Italian and local).
Breakfast was simply fresh orange juice (sweetened), boiling water to accompany our own (PG Tips) teabags, fresh crusty baguette (both white and brown) and a couple of Pan au Chocolate, all served with jams, marmalade and butter.
This kept us going until lunchtime when a trip down the street 100 yards (right out of the entrance) brings you to Chiche Kabab for a very tasty shwarma, Panini, salad or burger. The Sawma supermarket is next door where you can buy a cold beer or a bottle of local wine.
A pleasant stay but nothing here would entice me to return to Agadir or this particular hotel.

Room Tip: Go for a pool view, its quieter.
