“Agadir 27thMarch-3rd April”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2012

My friend and i stayed at this Hotel end of march for a week. The hotel is very clean, maid service everyday. They mostly speak French, but will try to talk to you in English, even some of the French would try and talk to you, my french from my school days came in very handy. The staff are very friendly. The entertainment is ok but all in french. The food is ok a bit repetative, but as we went AI we triend everything, they do do chips and fried eggs so you will not go hungry. The beach is only 5 mins away which is lovely and clean. The only thing is that they all seem to want money from you. When we first arrived we had to pay local tax which was £10.00, then a man takes your bags up to your room and he wants a tip as well. The weather was lovely, we went to the Souk, we were told by our rep it was only a 10 min walk, but and 1hour later we were there, it is so big but everything is the same, its a good experience.

Room Tip: We were on the fourth floor which was away from the pool, but nice and quiet apart from the seagulls...

First time Agadir, did not expect much, and i was pleasantly surpriced. Been to Morocco before and know the ways of this North African Nation. And for those who gets upset that Morrocans speak French, I recommend to find out where you are going before booking. And remember that in Agadir- which is Berber-country- they speak Berber, arab and French- see multilingual already. The French go there- because they are to arrogant to learn other languages- just like many other Nations dont care to learn a bit of foreign....just remember before complaining.

Atlas Almohades in Agadir is a former Ramada hotel. A quite big hotel in concrete, which once was very posh. Like typical desert architecture- the oasis is in the middle of it all- the pool and garden. Reception area is quite big in typical moroccan style- here you have free wifi connection, and free terminals for use. You can also book your excursions here- probably most for the French- I still recommend to book the net. With very few exeptions I found all staff in receptionarea smiling, hospittable and very helpful- and some of then actually speak english and german...
The bar area is right next to lobby- and can be quite noisy and crowded from time to time- here you also find music and dancing- they have a team of young men to dance with if you like- they can even join you for dinner if you are alone- very Moroccan, you dont have to be alone if you dont want to. They have diffrent entertainment every night and animation all the time- much is done in French, but quite a few do speak english, and if you try to join in they will help you the best you can. I dont use this myself but was invited to join in many times- seems very popular. In the ground floor you will find the Salle Espetacle- for parties, a few shops, a photographer and the gateway to the garden and the restaurant. I was told that there is a nightclub, did not see or hear it. Most bar staff was very accomodation and friendly- evening crew are not too crazy bout all-inclusive as they are dependent on tips. In general the hotel is a bit tired but it is kept nice and clean- just remember that you are in Morocco- things are a bit diffrent.
Rooms are quite comfortable- old and a bit warn out- but clean . The bed is comfortable, balcony with furniture, workdesk, telly with quite good selection of channels in french, german and english. There is aircon- which worked fine in my room. bathroom kept clean and change of towels everyday. My lovely Berber cleaning lady was smiling, hospittable and very friendly- and she did clean well. missing lightbulbs is quite common- and the "do not disturb" signs does not really have any affect- find your cleaner in the corridor and tell him/her that you are going to sleep/dormir/schlafen...that helps.
The restaurant is full of attentive waiters- I found them all to be curteous, smiling and helpful- and they love to talk to you if you let them. remember that the men in white shirts are trainees and they might not know everything- the men in red jackets are the experienced waiters- and many of them speak english and german. Breakfast was for me quite boring- and if you come before 8am you will find just enough to get you going. later you can get eggs etc etc. NO YOU WILL NOT GET BACON IN MOROCCO! lunch and dinner is of good quality and the show kitchen make lots of Tagines and diffrent Moroccan specialities. Salads, bread and hot items also available inside- there is a microowen if you want you food warmed up. Desserts consisted of moroccan cakes in variation- but quite repetetive. I found most of the restaurant staff to be friendly and helpful.
Yhe marmara animation team does a good job and try to talk to everybody and if you want yourself you can be a part of it all...if you are a young lady you will not need a language at all :-).
I had a wonderful week in Agadir and at the Atlas Almohades- learn a bit of french and arab words, smile and be positive- you see the Moroccans will do their best to make you feel welcome- just remember that northafrican people has a diffrent behavior than europeans- maybe you can adjust to this, maybe not. But diffrent it is.
I would not have a problem staying here again and Agadir i would glady visit again.

Room Tip: I kinow some rooms have larger balconies thyan others- they probably cost more.

Learn French before you go !!!! Everything is in French right down to the evening entertainment. You get asked to pay "there local tax" when you arrive at the hotel. Staff around the pool can get on your nerves as they dont let you sleep as they either drop a plastic spinder on you or tickle your face with a twig. the seagulls love the pool first thing in the morning so if you dont mind sharing it with about 40 birds thats cool ! also dont leave anything around the pool as it goes "walkabouts" and you wont see it again. this is one place i dont think i would go back to, there are a lot of "beggers" out side and if you sit and watch them long enough you will see them use there mobile phones !!!!!!!!!!! air con in rooms dont really work that well as not much cool air comes out so can get a bit hot at night. Plus side if you are A/L nice bottle of wine with you lunch is nice :)

Room Tip: dont go for the ground floor as the corridor smells of drains !

So we got there and first thing we were asked to do was pay the local tax which was 106 dirhams per person. We were not aware of this abd hadnt exchanged money so asked the receptionist if we could pay later.
Given keys to our room, we couldn't wait to have a nap. We had a 7am flight so were awake since 4! Upon entering our room, the room hadn't been cleaned following the previous occupants exit! Croissants all over the dresser, beds unmade, rubbish everywhere. I was appalled. Anyway thought we'd have lunch and hopefully by then it would be sorted having spoken to reception.
An hour later the room still wasn't made and in total we waited 3 hours! When it was finally made we had no towels. We got told the towels were being laundered and we'd get them at 7! So they only had enough for one set of towels for entire hotel!!!!
Food was ok, not great. Chicken was always dry. Food extremely bland. Pizzas were great but They only did margherita. We lived off pizza pretty much. Desserts were awful. Tiny little pieces of extremely dry sugary cake. Same thing every day. If u want fruit, then there's oranges and errrr oranges! You were never waited on. You have to get up and fill your own drinks from a vending machine. No bar when eating! There's a man that hands out wine near the buffet area but again no waiter service.
The feel we got from hotel was very hostel like. Just the look, smells etc. an extremely cold feeling.
The pool stank of detergent like chlorine. No beach towel cards. If you need a beach towel you need to put 100 dirhams deposit down ( about £10) and the towels were worn out.
Night entertainment was extremely depressing. All French and catered for over 60's. It really was bad!!!
Oh and everything, I mean everything is in French! You're lucky if you find somebody speaking English!
The rooms are nice and clean. No iron or hairdryer. Toiletries are super cheap ones in tiny sachets so don't rely on those.
Seagulls did my head in. They're all over the hotel and loud!!! They wake you up at sunrise and start again at sunset. One time, one flew into the pool and a flock followed! All coz somebody had dropped a piece of chicken in the pool!!! Ugh!!!
The location was fantastic. We got taxis everywhere coz we were lazy but everything is walking distance. And if you do get a taxi always ask them to put their meter on! We were made aware of this on last day so got ripped off throughout our stay!!!! It's single fare for day and double for night.
So basically you get what you pay for. It's Ok value for money. Definitely not a 4 star hotel. More like a 2 or 3 star at max. If I'd known exactly what it was like I'd have much rather paid the extra £100 and stayed in a decent 5 star hotel.
