We luckily left Marrakech which was very hot in August for the cool seaside resort of Agadir where we stayed at this very large hotel situated right on the ocean. We were not sure how we would feel in such a large hotel, but it was all very good. Although it is very large, we did not feel left out as the staff where all very friendly and polite. If anyone has ever cruised before, it feels somewhat like this except that of course were not moving. We ate all over our meals at the hotel and although the food was not fantastic, it was good enough. WIFI is accessible from the lobby only so often we would see many guests lounging bout the lobby playing on their computers. The pool is massive but most of it si very shallow so for real swimming you can go into the ocean as the hotel is situated right on the Atlantic with a private beach area. The bedrooms we large and well furnished and very clean. The staff were all very polite and friendly. They offered us a summer special rate and so we felt as you should too, that this is a very good choice hotel.

We stayed here for one week from the 9th to the 16th July. This hotel is not a 5 star hotel at best it is a 3 star here is why:

1. Soon as we arrived Bell boys hounded us looking for tips. Reception staff were rude and un-interested.

2. Breakfast is something like out of the move jumangi. you have to find your own table as there is no waiter service, and if you come after 10 you might aswell not have bothered as there will be no space. Food is average at best. no variety. I was bored after the 2nd day. Waiters take about 40mins to bring you coffee and slam plates around when you ask them to clear your table. Honestly have never seen anything like this.

3. You have to pay approx £10 for the gym and £15 to use the indoor pool which for the price you pay for the hotel and its apparent "5 star" is a joke.

4. Our toilet smelt like sewage from the first day we arrived and even after complaining many times nothing was done about this. The rooms are dark, musty, and dingy. TV does not work. Minibar is Empty. and Generally is not up to 5 star standard more like 2 star for 5 star prices.

5. No Alcohol is served in the hotel.

6. Staff at the beach bare are rude and incompetent. They do not bring you things when ordered on the private beach you have to take a tray and collect them.

7. No activities in the evening. Ping-pong table is always broken.

8. The hotel's location is very poor as it's about 10 - 15mins away from the centre point of agadir and marina etc.

9. If you want to make a reservation for a restaurant the hotel will charge you for the call.

We brought a group of 24 people including dentists for a conference as well as community members born in Morocco. Some of these participants had read bad reviews of this exceptional hotel and were worried what they would find.
The hotel is located right on the beach adjacent to the promenade that follows the contours of the beautiful beach. The breathtaking view from our balcony included the beach as well as the 150 meter long infinity swimming pool that has separate shallow portions for kids. The room was clean, large and spacious with all the modern amenities (such as small fridge & safe) one expects in such hotels & had a balcony with a small table & 2 chairs. We were taken back with the fact that the room was not ready when we came in, but a call to the reception quickly fixed that. To make up for this, management offered us a free entrance to the Thalassotherapy pool at the Spa and reduced rates for the Hammam-with body rub which my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed.
The large bathroom, all in marble with separate bathtub/shower, separate toilet area with bidet provided all we needed.
Dining: breakfast in the dining room at level -4, which was included was ample with many choices of freshly made eggs-any style, fruits and veggies, cereals, cheeses, freshly pressed orange juice, fresh baguettes and rolls, croissants and pain au chocolat & best of all for those of you who know- they had a 'Fatima' making fresh 'Mofletas' every morning- these are Moroccan style crepes that are delicious-especially when served with orange blossom honey!! Your choice of regular coffee, cappucino, mint tea or hot chocolate made for a wonderful experience- what diet? that's for when we get home!
Service in the dining room was professional and discreet.
The grounds of the hotel were spotless and beautiful with walking paths amongst flowering bushes and palm trees. The reception areas and corridors leading to the rooms reminds one of old times in another era-truly palatial. The corridors are open to the sky, have palm trees and flowers growing there and birds flying through-a delightful walk to and from our room.
Conference facilities were very good. Even though we were a small group, they gave us the large conference room(which was available)-seats about 350 people.
They have a money exchange service in the reception area which proved to be helpful, and their rates are somewhat better than at the airport.
Final comments from our guests- This was a real Palace which they all enjoyed.
One desirable improvement would be to have free internet access in all the rooms.Currently there is free wi fi access only in the reception area.

Room Tip: rooms on level -1 or 0 facing pool/ocean

We debated for ages about which hotel to go to in Agadir, reading both good and bad reviews for most before taking a risk and deciding on the Palais des Roses. We couldn't have had a more pleasant stay. Our room was clean and a good size, although we didn't have a sea view as requested (well, we could, but it was very obscured). The maid arrived daily to clean and also provide new towels only forgetting one day, but a quick call to reception solved that.

We went for half board, and by the prices in Agadir, think we went for a good option. Some people have said the food was the same everynight. We were there for 10 days and although a few dishes were the same most nights it was varied enough that we were happy to eat there. The choice of salads is amazing (we ate pretty healthily) and there was always a fresh grill option, being calamari, beef chicken etc. The puddings were a great selection of cakes (think PAULs or Patisserie Valerie). Be aware this is a DRY hotel (i.e. no alcoholic drinks) but they are fine with you bringing your own in (we took a bottle of red in most nights), and if you don't finish it they will keep it for the next night).

We had no problems with the waiters and a special mention goes to Said and Rachid, who were always welcoming and friendly to us, but then we made the effort to attempt some French/Arabic, although their English was perfect. I do believe you get back what you give.

Only slight negatives would be that the hotel is quite a way down the beach and not in the main part of town, but there are more than enough taxis and we prefered the quiet. The frogs that some people mention are quite loud, but the aircon on full drowned them out and I actually didn't mind the noise (not as bad as the Amazon!!). If it's an issue though, make sure your room in not near the main building, as that's where they are in a pond in front of the restaurant. The hotel does look a little tired, but I think that was some of it's charm (we peeked in the Founty Beach next door and it was like Butlins!). The Spa reception staff were a bit off-hand, and one reception lady was a little stand-offish, but all answered our questions and addressed any issues we had. Also there was no real evening entertainment (there was a guy who sang over backing tracks at dinner but that was about it).

Overall, don't expect the Sofitel or Hilton, but a clean friendly hotel where I would not hesitate to stay again.

Room Tip: seaview doesn't always mean that

We visited the Palais des roses last week and after reading the reviews on this website I went with a sense of trepidation. But when I arrived I was very pleasantly surprised. Although, the building is a little tired as it is a 1960s construction me and my wife found the staff very helpful and polite, the food was excellent and the pool was lovely. We didn't see any of the problems people were complaining about on this website and I look forward to returning again. My only disappointment was the fact no alcoholic drinks are served at this hotel, but it is lovely and quiet and a great place to relax.

The room we had was stinking of anti bug poison.(after one week on this hotel you probably have shorten your life with several years).
It was nearly impossible to sleep cause the f-ng frogs was kvacking all the night and the hotels construction works like a resonance box.

On the Hotels home side they mention the pool bar...they not mention that they not serves ALCOHOL!!! So if you have problems with alcohol this hotel is the right choice for you!

If you try to have eye contact with the stuff, for example order some refreshment in the pool area(mmm coca-cola)its impossible.
You have to stand up and jell like a Army Drill instructor or something.
After they served you with your drink they running away fast and long before any other guest will disturb them with orders.

The menu in the pool restaurant is a joke and the food is so f-ng boring that you better will eat on your finger nails or something.
The only 5-stars thing with this hotel are the prizes.

The furnitures in our room was from WW 2 and it was not cleaned up properly.

The only good thing with the hotel(exept leaving it) was the breakfast stuff, they was polite and friendly and the breakfast itself was quite nice.

If they ever will make a "Shining"movie or a new "Psycho" movie this is the right place.

This was my first trip to Morocco and I did not know what to expect. This hotel bang on the beach was beyond my imagination. The location is beautiful, the swimming pools are large and unending and the rooms are large and tastefully done with each having a sea view. Hotel staff is courteous and very helpful; the welcome mint tea and hot towels at 9pm were just the right thing for weary travellers like me who changed 2 planes and spent more than 24 hours to reach Agadir from Delhi. On top of this the food was the best that I have had anywhere in the world. Breakfast, lunch and tea breaks were sumptuous with flavourful salads and confectionery even better than in Europe. My visit to the local market, souk, was charming. It is a great mix of modern and tradition with all kinds of local things available. The market is well-used by the locals so its not the exotic entirely touristy place. I got 2 really beautiful carpets, a piece of local pottery, some nuts and fantastic Tunisian dates. From the supermarket I got some really good very reasonably prices olive oil, orange honey and almond butter. I would love to go back to the place.
