Stayed at the Sofitel for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. First class accommodation and excellent friendly staff. I find it hard to believe that we went to the same hotel as some of the negative reviewers.

Weather was beautiful and the fabulous facilities in the hotel grounds helped us make the most of it. I thought the prices of the drinks and the food at the outdoor restaurant were very reasonable for a 5 star hotel. Excellent attentive service from very friendly staff.

Breakfast at the hotel was a pleasure with a great choice of fresh, appetising food and again there was first class service.

We wanted to sample food outside the hotel and the very friendly concierge arranged a reservation at a restaurant called La Scala which was about 5 minutes drive from the hotel. The restaurant supplied transport which arrived promply and the meal was excellent and not overly expensive.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Well, what can I say about this place!!!

Superb, fantastic, amazing.........It is spotless throughout, the room we were in was spacious and had more than enough ammenities that you would expect. It is fairly quiet and void of children, perfect for an adult break.

The pool area has loads of lavish beds and loungers which can also be found down on the beach, 50 meters from the pool. From what I could tell, this is the only hotel that has its own section on the beach.

Breakfast is contintental style and Moroccan plus a section to have eggs cooked your own way and a section for pancakes, but is more than adequate.

We never ate in the hotel in the evening as we chose to visit the local restaurants.

Staff are extremely friendly and helpful and are there for your every need, on hand to get you anything you want at poolside or on the beach. You really dont have to move a muscle

Taxi into the main town range from 20 dihram to 40, depending on how you haggle, but still not very expensive. You could always walk it which will take about 30-40 mins.

All in all, if you want to escape and relax, you will not go wrong with this hotel.

We booked our stay as a Thomson Platinum holiday and were there for a week from 22nd October.

We were totally overwhelmed on arrival at the hotel as the reception area is stunning and we had a warm welcome and mint tea whilst we checked in. We were a little unsure about tipping when we first arrived as we didn't have any dirhams but it seems to fine to give taxi drivers and porters pounds or euros when you first arrive, they'd definately rather have that than nothing and tipping is generally expected in Morocco so it's best just to go with it.

We were taken to our room after checking in and we were immediately disapointed by the dark dindgy corridors of the hotel. They are covered with a dark brown damp carpet and there is always a strange damp smell in the corridors. My initial view of the room was also a little disapointing as there was no balcony, which I would normally expect in a 5 star hotel in a holiday resort. Our room was around the side of the hotel and so had a bit of a rubbish out look and didn't really get any light - I didn't really feel like a Platinum customer to be honest. However the room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. We had nice fluffy towels and robes and it was the most comfy bed I have ever slept in. The bathroom was of a high standard too.

It was quite late at that point so we wandered down to the bar area where we were ignored for a considerable amount of time and the waiter then looked down his nose at us when we asked for a menu. Good job we did when we saw the price of the drinks!! No cocktails on this holiday!

We then went off to explore the So nightclub which is an amazing looking club. There was a fantastic house band playing and much to our delight we found that it was ladies night on Wednesdays, where you can drink as many vodka or whiskey's as you wish, so it was a bit more reasonable. Be warned though the normal drinks are even more expensive in the club than in the rest of the hotel. I reckon it was about £9.00 for a vodka!! This was the only night that the club was busy as no one can afford to drink in there the rest of the time!

One of the best bits of the hotel was the pool area and the beach, both are fantastic and the luxury beds are a real treat.

Don't be afraid to venture out into town in one of the orange Petit taxis. You won't pay more than 30 dirhams (about £2.10) to go anywhere in the resort. In the evening a good place to ask for is the English pub and that takes you to an area with some nice bars and restaurants. The English pub isn't as tacky as it sounds and we had some very enjoyable (cheap!) evenings in there. La Jarin l'eau around the corner is also a lovely restaurant and they do fantastic beef steaks.

Make sure you have an Argan Massage whilst you are there. All the taxi drivers seem to have details of them and they will come and pick you up from the hotel and drop you off again. It is a 2 hour massage for about £25.00 - bargain!! We went twice whilst we were there, they all seem good and reputable.

Head down to the Marina to see the nice new side of Agadir and then take a walk back towards sofitel along the new promenade. You have to walk the last bit on the beach but it is a nice stroll.

My last bit of advice is to clear out your mini bar and take a taxi up to the big supermarket to stock up on drinks and snacks as you won't always want to pay the hotel prices, unless money is no object of course!

By the way breakfast is pretty shoddy - make sure you go outside and get someone to cook you a fresh egg or omelette as it's the only way you'll get anything warm for breakfast. Be prepared to be patient as the service is rubbish. Nice waiters but bad management I think.

If you've already booked the Sofitel, don't be put off by what i have written as it truly is a lovely place, just probably not 5 star. Make sure you venture out and see more of Agadir, it's not all that expensive.

  • Liked — The beach, pool area, reception area and the bed
  • Disliked — The expensive drinks, No balcony, inefficient or rude staff and dark corridors

stayed at Sofitel for the first time Oct 11th for one week.

The Hotel itself is very nice. The room we had I would say was average.

The service I have to say was appalling. Starting with breakfast, we had to ask so many times to try and get somebody to clear the table and bring us tea/coffee. Eventually I asked the Manager could we have some service and he looked at me blankly. So many staff running around and yet you could not get any service. For a five start hotel I found this incredible.

Lunch we had by the pool every day. Again the service was appalling. There is no proper management here. All the managers seem to do is berate the staff on front of patrons. There is no organisation at breakfast or lunch.

The reception staff look very sad and uninterested. When we checked out nobody asked us did we enjoy our stay. They would not appear to be very happy in their jobs.

On our first night we went into the Piano bar for a pre dinner drink again here the service was very poor. We had to ask for some nuts there was no atmosphere here at all.

This was our 5th time in Morocco. Previously we stayed at the Atlantic Palace Hotel. It was fantastic in every way.

We would not go back to the Sofitel. Such a pity because the Hotel itself is fabulous and being able to walk onto the beach and relax on the goregous beds was a real treat.

The staff need to be motivated and the service really needs attention. Nobody should have to ask for service in a five star hotel and there certainly was no shortage of staff and yet the service was appalling.

We were expecting great things from this hotel but sadly that was not the case. The key to a great hotel are the people who work there and here the Staff very unmotivated, souless atmosphere, customers were frequently ignored especially at breakfast which was a disaster, badly organised. It was not uncommon to sit at a dirty table for 10 minutes. When we checked out we were not even thanked or asked if we had enjoyed ourselves. That is very poor for a hotel that boasts five stars and is expensive. staff were berated infront of customers, basically there was no effective management. To be fair some of the staff did try but they were sadly in the vast minority.

the only positives we can give are that it has a beautiful location
on the beach and it was clean. Try the atlantic beach instead, much much better. We do not expect miracles but would strongly avoid you to give the sofitel a wide berth. We discussed the hotel with other customers and they agreed with our view.
