Just returned from a 11 day holiday at the Riu Palace.
Spent two weeks at this hotel in September last year and I said then It will be a great hotel within a year. Its first class.
The reception area is very spacious with plenty of seating, the lobby bar in this area was open from 10.30am until 1.00 am last year.
the new times are 9.00am - midnight, Bar Salon 7.00 - midnight, Pool bar 10-00am - 6.00pm, all with a very good waiter service.
The pool area is very large with plenty of sunbeds and parasols, you do get a lot of beds reserved and some empty most of the morning, on one occasion two towels on two of the better beds all day never used, must have been reserved by pool staff.
You can spend all day on your sunbed with waiters bringing your drinks and not any loud music.
It was very windy the first three days and the beach was like the Sahara desert, it was imposable to sunbath on the beach. SEE PHOTO
The hotel tried to make the deckchair area flat but when the wind blow the sand was all over the place. We stayed by the pool.
The beach is nearly two miles long and a 35 minute walk to the town from the hotel along a wonderful promenade.
The rooms are very spacious and modern with mini bar/fridge and a free safe inside one of the two wardrobe. Very spacious bathroom with two sinks, bath, overhead and hand shower, toilet and bidet. Balcony's are large with a table and two chairs.
The restaurant has improved with a lot more choice of food meats, potato's, and great vegetables,( you can still get your chips. )
The table layout was a bit canteen style, the tables are to close together giving very little privacy. ( Most Riu hotels are like this.)
The bars have a great selection of drinks, which were branded. Do not do Baileys anymore (that upset the wife.)
The cocktails are not very good but they did serve champagne (Cava / white sparkling wine) by the glass, its a nice drink.
The bar service was excellent, most of the bar staff were superb always smiling and polite.
Free Wi-Fi in reception and in the room you need a lead to use the Wi-Fi in the rooms, I was always connected day and night.
Staff are fantastic cleaners, Gardner's, reception staff, waiters, bar staff, and managers all willing to help.
The evening entertainment was good on three nights when a live band were on a very good band other nights the usual Riu fun.
The new staff have leant the trade and the problems we had in September last year have gone. A first rate Riu Hotel.
