We went for 10 days towards the end of October 2012, leaving just as half-term was beginning and the hotel became overrun with children and their largely selfish parents. Before the final few days, we had a lovely time with fabulous weather.

The setup is lovely with plenty of space. Sometimes it can take a while to be served at the bar but it rarely takes too long. For Brits used to non-smoking, it seems odd now to find people smoking indoors but it is generally well separated. The bar staff make decent drinks and always seemed to try their best.

I read a few comments from people saying it was repetitive but I'm not quite sure what they are on about. One half of the main buffet is the same each day: Pizza, pasta, chips, rice, etc. This is, obviously, for the benefit of fussy people who don't like to try anything new. The other half was a mixture of themed foods, ie Chinese, and all sorts of other things, such as local tagines. Unless you're the fussiest person going, there's something for everyone.

The Italian restaurant is a bit wasted but the Fusion is terrific, with lovely meat and the Moroccan one wasn't too bad. You get good Moroccan food at the main buffet though.

Genuinely can't understand why anyone's had a problem with the food.

We had a beautiful view of the sun rising every day facing the pool. The better rooms are on floor three & four because you are higher and can see over the trees. I genuinely wouldn't bother with the garden rooms. They are at ground level and you can't see much at all.

The sunbeds are great- mattresses and individual tables on each bed. We never had a problem getting a space but then we usually get up early-ish anyway. If you're getting up at midday, I'm not entirely sure what you expect. There are loads of beds free on the beach in any case. In all honesty, the best sun every day was between 9am and 1pm.

The spa was good but prepare to book a day or so before. The gym was nice too.

Room Tip: Get a pool-view room. Don't worry about a garden room. Ask for floor 3 or 4.

Having stayed at several four star Riu hotels in Cyprus and Tunisia and been very happy with the experience I was really looking forward to our holiday in Agadir. This hotel is rated as five star and it could well be with some improvements. The hotel has only been open since May 2012 and already the infrastructure is groaning. The rooms are furnished to a high standard and are spacious although the fixtures and fittings in the rooms are very cheap, flimsy and the workmanship very shoddy. The wardrobe doors kept falling off when they were opened as the sliding mechanism was really flimsy. The towel rail under the sinks fell off because it hadn't been properly attached, several of the tiles in the bathroom had not been glued to the wall and fell off if you happened to brush against them. The water and electricity often went off for short periods. which is most annoying if you are in the shower. I got the general impression that everything had been finished off in haste without much attention to detail. The staff are always friendly, happy and smiling and nothing is too much trouble for them even though they are worked very hard by the floor walkers and there is a severe shortage of staff at peak times. The worst aspect of this hotel is the food. The choice at each meal is very limited and of poor quality, it is a case of chips with everything. The best meal of the day was breakfast. There are 3 themed restaurants at this hotel one of which is Italian. For some reason this hotel thinks Italian food is Pizza and chips or Macaroni Cheese. Having experienced the wonderful food in other Riu hotels the food in the Riu Palace was a real disappointment. I would thoroughly recommend Agadir as a holiday destination, but could not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: I despite my review you still decide to stay at this hotel, don't pay extra for a pool view, bec...

This is a fantastic hotel with beautiful grounds and the hotel is very attractive. Plenty of sitting / bar areas both inside and outdoors. Our room was spacious and spotless as was the whole of the hotel. We ate in the main buffet restaurant throughout our holiday and enjoyed the food very much. There was a wide variety of food and we enjoyed trying the moroccan dishes cooked in tagines and enjoyed the themed nights. The staff were very friendly and very attentive. We always ate in the outdoor area except for one evening when it was very windy. All the staff are friendly, helpful and The pool areas were well laid out and we never found it difficult to find sunbeds even when we went later in the morning. The pools were very clean and attractive - a bit chilly, but it was October! The hotel beach area is lovely and are not bothered by sellers. The sellers on the promenade are not pushy, a polite 'no thank you' and they accept that.
We hired bikes through the hotel for half a day to ride along the wide promenade and go to the fish market and marina. It is safe to walk out in the evening.
We walked to the souk, which took about half an hour, and particularly enjoyed looking at the fruit and vegetable stalls - such a variety! The stall holders were not pushy but just liked to talk. We wanted to buy a belt did not have enough money with us so the stall holder told us to take it and he would come to the hotel at lunchtime to get the money!!! Amazing!!!
We would certainly recommend this hotel and would love to return one day.

I arrived with my family for school half term. We has two rooms, As previous reviews say there was a dreadful smell in one of the rooms (sewage) However, the hotel changed both rooms for us straight away and even upgraded us for free. The weather was awful, it rained nearly every day and they were clearly not geared up for such bad weather conditions (this weather is very rare for morocco). There was NOTHING to do. We ate so much and thank goodness the restaurants were very good standard as you couldnt even go out much as there were road closures due to flooding. The hotel just couldnt cope with everyone staying in the looby and serving drinks etc. No personal touch and difficult to get table service. Shows are mediocre and the kids club is a joke. Be careful of the wardrobe doors in the rooms....our's flipped off the runner and landed on my husbands foot slicing his big toe straight through to the bone! hotel were very helpful.........They were panicking in case we sued..we are taking it up with travel company. He couldnt walk for two days............to top it off i contracted the novovirus on the last day and apparently the rep told us at te airport that there was a health warning just been issued that day re: the novovirus..............All in all not a great week, half the hotels fault and half the weather. IT is a lovely resort if you have great weather and a nice smelling room (and wardrobe doors that dont fall off!) but i wouldnt class it as five star.

Room Tip: ask for a pool facing room. We has 1114 and 1116............quiet, nice view, easy access to pool, d...

WELL where do i start as i am a general manager of a hotel and my partner is also in the industry we can sometime be very critical but this ticked all our boxes and more

Sorry didnt go to the welcome but a few people we spoke too did and booked on trips and said when they came back off them they were good especially the half day one and the catamaran
The hotel front is on a quiet main road, across the road are shops where you can buy anything moroccan but inside the hotel is a shop that is very good and caters for all, sun tan creams, newspapers, gifts, we bought our cigs there too as same price as shops outside the hotel
also if you fancy a flutter at the casino DONT go to the mirage one but use the Atlantic hotel one, its 5 minute walk there, at the casino you get free drinks and cigs for smokers

The reception area
very nice and comfortable lots of seating area, you can also smoke around the bar area but lots of areas where you cant so a great mix for non smoking and smokers, the reception team are very accommodating

The bar area
as above also the staff there are great they are always smiling, even when they have worked at the pool bar in the day then go onto working at this bar later GREAT , you also get nuts and olives at this bar as nibbles

the restaurants
I cannot really understand where people say it is repetative in the buffet restaurant, yes there are some dishes that are repeated but these are the ones that i am sure if they didnt have on the people would complain, they do themed nights and to say we ate there for 14 nights we thought it was fab and to say my partner looks after the food and beverage for 30 hotels this is a record that we ate here that many times seeing as we chose this holiday because of the different ala carte restaurants available!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we didnt go in the other restaurants but we spoke to a few people and they were raving about them saying how good. the food was ALSO the cleanliness is very good ,, try the peking duck it is lush ,, the team here are brilliant and we kept to the same waiters all the holiday and built up a great rappor with them, we did tip them and not because we felt we had too but because we wanted too

the room
well all i can say is THANK YOU for such a great room loads of space and great views
the mini bar guy comes every other day and if you are in when he comes you can ask him for what you want ,I would definatly reccommend an upgrade when you are booking and i know you dont spend a lot of time in your room but it is well worth it

Saed and Ali were the 2 main guys we dealt with at the pool bar and they are wonderful always got a smile and very chatty, well done guys you were a credit to the hotel,,, so much i wanted to steal them away and come and work for me as there customer care skills were exceptional
the pool guys are always around looking after the pool, water testing etc , the entertainment team are also around asking if you want to join in on activities a polite no is all they needed ,, no hassling,, my partner played the boules at 11am and 4pm, which was a first as we usually just flop out and do nothing SUN LOUNGERS what are people talking about !!! it really annoys me when people saythat people are putting towels on loungers etc YES it happens world wide deal with it !!! there was plenty of loungers available when we were there, even the beds on some days didnt get used

we went for a walk on the beach and some bits were littered ?? but apart from that nice beach, when you go from the hotel to the beach which is a very small walk there is hawkers around but again a polite no, thank you and they walk away.
The Spa
mmmmm i did send a few emails prior to book treatments but no reply, however this didnt hinder my experience, i had three massages, very good and great value for money would definatly reccomend ,, when i went to book they were booked for that day so i booked day prior on all massages which in my opinion is a good sign of how good they are
Management team
The management team are always around the hotel and i can honestly say I dont see many GMs on the floor talking to guests when I am on hols but Mr G was there every day and night and he is such a great host

I just wanted to say about the trip advisor as some times it is used as a board for people who in my opnion need to enjoy themselves and not get bogged down by such trivial things for goodness sake you are on holiday and my main reason for putting this is that we sat, quiet a few times near a couple and noticed that at each service breakfast lunch and dinner the lady kept getting a book out and writing things in it, so being nosey I walked past and looked and I couldnt believe my eyes she had service value, etc all the trip advosor ratings listed and comments at the side of them ??????????????/

All in all A great holiday so much so we are trying to arrange going back at christmas dependant on flight days !!!! if not will be going again in 2013 which is also a first for us as we never go back to the same place TIPS yes we tipped, restaurant, bar , spa and housekeeping because we wanted too as they truly deserve it

Room Tip: sea view the sunsets are amazing
