“Great Views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

After looking at a few day excursions, we opted to go for a day trip to see the waterfalls in Ourika. We booked the trip through our hotel and piad 250dirhams each. We later found out this only includes the driver and visits to various pottery, herb and spice stores along the way. There is an additional cost for the guide which you will need and can be negotiated once you reach the village to start the trek. If you can ask for Mohammed, he was an amazing guide, we felt really safe and he never made us obligated to buy anything along the way. The guides charge per person for the trek, even if they take a whole group of you, but I definitely advise to get a guide to show you the best views and negotiate at the beginning to see all 5 waterfalls, its only 5 minutes extra to your trek and the extra four waterfalls you see are actually cascades of the same waterfall. However the views you see are amazing and highly recommended. Take proper walking boots or strong trainers, the trek is more of a climb across rocks and rivers to get to the waterfall. Pack light, and keep both hands free. This was the best part of our trip to Marrakech, so definitely make time to see it. We paid our guide 40 dirhams each for the trek. Ask for Mohammed and prepare to see some beautiful views of Morocco.

“Wear some proprer climbing shoes”

Health and safety is not a priority anywhere - you could easily slip and fall on the smooth boulders

“Great trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013 via mobile

We didn't knew what to expect up front since there wasn't much information available in the hotel but we enjoyed ourself a lot. Nice guide who helped us up to the falls though at some points it was a hard climb. It was surely wordt the trip.

“Good day out... However take note!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

This is a decent day out of the city. Most riads / hotels will book the day trip for you, which is what we did. You will pay for a car to take you to the falls, where you will meet a guide (seperate fee) who will take you to the first set of waterfalls. There you can either turn around and head back the way you came or continue up higher. This is NOT a easy hike along a paved path. Wear good comfortable shoes. Do not bring more than you can carry.

After the hike we went for lunch (also not included) before heading back to the city.

During the drive out we stopped at a pottery place, and agean oil place, and a spice place. You are not obligied to buy anything, and if you want you can tell the driver not to bother stopping but continue on.

On the way back my wife wanted to ride a camel. The driver when to a specific place where she had a 20 min ride (150dirhams). There are several places alomng the valley road where you can pet or ride the camels.

“Great day out.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

We hired a car and a driver for our trip to the valley. We went on a Monday which turned out to be lucky as first stop at the four of the mountains was the weekly souk for locals. It was incredibly busy, and with only a few tourists it was as authentic as it gets. Not for everyone I would guess - you will see chickens having their knacks wrung etc. You will also see men being shaved, and the odd tooth extraction.
Next stop was a commune in a Berber house. You get to tour the house for a donation of your own choosing.
The valley and the mountains are spectacular - the tops were still snow covered. We then visited a medicinal herb centre, before lunch and a trek to the waterfalls.
I would agree with other comments that the area is aimed at tourists - what would you expect? Also the walk up to the waterfalls is spoilt by the rubbish - probably from the tourists, but you should still go if you can make it.
