“Really safe and very beautiful decoration”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2011

The most safe hotel that I ever have been. Very tipical and nice decoration. Despite of the local culture, the staff is not so warmly but the are efficient. Very confortable and has a delicious breakfast.

I stayed in El Djazair hotel for a 6-day business trip. One of the main problems I faced was the unstable internet connection. The hotel is quite old and they employ data connections over power lines, dedicating a WiFi access point for each 2 or 3 rooms. Each occupant receives a username and password to access the nearest access point. The first problem is that the access point is placed INSIDE that room, which means that if you are in one of the neighboring rooms, and your access point needs to be restarted or maintained, it is subject to whether the resident in that room is available or not, sleeping, etc. The IT staff are very nice and helpful, but the configuration is quite complex and annoying. I acquired another username and password for my smart phone through the IT staff. Other than that, I had dinner at the hotel a couple of times, there are only two restaurants, the first offering Algerian and French cuisine, while the other offering Chinese food. They're both alright, but if you're looking for a true Algerian dinner, I would definitely recommend that you head to El Djenina restaurant which is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. It is definitely one of the best restaurants in Algiers.

This has been my third (and probably last) visit to El-Djazair Hotel in Algiers.
The only atout of the hotel is the central location which it makes it very easy to reach every place in town notwithstanding the traffic.
The hotel needs now a radical renovation also in the management: the rooms are old, the air conditioning doesn't work (and in Algiers this is a real problem!), breakfast is poor (bread is old and dry, there are only three different kind of cereals, cakes are also dry...), the cleaning ladies and the other staff members start their chatting out of the rooms very early in the morning, the fitness center is not adequate....).
The staff is nice and helpful, the restaurant is not bad and there is a free wireless internet connection but the hotel is rated (and the prices are those of a) 5-stars and in order to keep this standards it needs to be restructured and redecorated.

I was in Algeria for 4 nights in July. Spent 2 nights in Algiers and 2 nights in Oran. Stayed at the Hotel El-Djazair on the 1st and 4th night.

We were given very different rooms for both stay. The first night, we stayed at the old wing. The rooms and bathrooms were terrible. Everything was so old and badly needs to be upgraded. Definitely not worth the EUR200 per night that we paid.

On our second stay, we were given rooms in the new wing. These rooms were definitely better. King size bed instead of queen, upgraded bathrooms and flat screen TV. It was a pleasant surprise. While it is still not 5* international standard, it was a vast improvement from our first stay.

If you ask me to describe the hotel, I'll say it is charming. The condition of the public areas were better than the rooms. I believe this must have been the place to be in 20 years ago.

Breakfast was not included in the room rates, and the selection was not great. But we had no other alternative.

I understand from colleagues in Algiers that Hilton is a nicer hotel, but unfortunately far away from the city centre. So I suppose this is the best that one can get in the city centre.

The Hotel El Djazair in Algiers has the advantage to be very well located, in the town center. It has a beautiful architecture and a wonderful garden and the atmosphere is that of the old colonial times. Unfortunately it seems that since the French colonisation the hotel has never been renovated (and probably this is the truth...).
The rooms are big and some have a nice view on the garden and on the swimming pool.
Breakfast is ok, the restaurant is not bad and offeres algerian and european dishes.
The staff is quite friendly.
The overall price for this hotel is high for the standard offered.
