Located in the national exhibition park, you wouldn't be tempted to believe that you are in for a treat at Dar Lahlou, and you would be mistaken :)
A simple restaurant with the vibe of being family run, Dar Lahlou offers traditional Algerian cuisine. The mood is set right by the traditional interiors and architecture of the place.
The waiters are very friendly with an easy-going attitude and more importantly with English menus :)
I ordered the tomato salad, chourba (soup) and royal couscous. The tomato salad was served quite nicely, with the tomatoes cut to look like flowers along with lettuce, onions and olives, all drizzled in olive oil. The soup was served at the right temperature, not boiling hot, and was very nice as well with what i believe was couscous (or something very similar) and pieces of lamb meat.
The main course was superb, a plate with two different types of couscous another with lamb, chicken and sausages and a third with what was essentially vegetable stew. A highly recommended main course that is as satisfying as it was filling.
The drawbacks to this restaurant were its location, at the edge of Algiers, you will need to arrange for something to pick you up from there as well as the dessert which is only fresh fruit rather than some traditional Algerian desserts, other than that, great experience.
