“A family must”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

For the extra amenedies and family atmosphere this is a great place. If you think you'll spend any significant time in your room rethink. For our vacation I was drawn to the list of boating, sailing, and lake cruising options. Arnold's Park is quaint- I liked that it is supported by the community. Nearby coffee house and restrauants are diverse and inviting. Even the local museum was interesting and worth a tour.

The tours offered were really entertaining and I found the staff to be so friendly. They helped us arrange a chartered fishing tour which was a highlight. Hanging out in the lobby was in itself like a family reunion with folks hanging out, playing pool, ping pong and other games . Other acivities were varied guarantted to to find an interest for any age group.

People have been coming here for fifty years and can't imagine going anywhere else.

The rooms are a little outdated but fully stocked with all you need to cook in. WiFi could be better in the southern units. If you are really outdoors people, don't worry about the room and enjoy these wonderful lakes.

Okoboji is truly the best place in the state and Fillenwarth is the best place to stay. Great location and plenty of free activities. Could live there all summer!

Don't bother loooking anywhere else for the best place to stay in this area - this is it! The accomodations are first rate, from the lake views from all the units to the cleanliness and quality of the furnishings and linens. And the activities are numerous, and included in the rental rate. We enjoyed the cocktail cruise every day at 4 p.m. Our cottage was spotless and the view from our deck was beautiful. As for the staff - they could not do enough to please you. Everyone wanted you to be having a great time, and offered to help make your stay the most pleasant in any way they could. Many guests return year after year, and we look forward to returning again very soon.

My family and I come to Okoboji every summer and we always stay at Fillenwarth. I'm planning my trip now, which is why I'm writing a review now. I love to take advantage of everything Fillenwarth has to offer. Here is a list of things I LOVE to do when we stay for a week at Fillenwarth Beach. I know I'm leaving out some fun ones as well.

Monday cocktail party
Sailboat cruises
Playing basketball down by the water
Weekly Magic show with Scotty
Family Cruises (booze cruises)
Swimming to the yellow floaty dock
Fishing
Waterski lessons
Swimmercize (my mom does that, not me)

This place has it all! The nice thing about all these activities is that they are no extra cost. When you pay for the room, ALL of this stuff is included. Plus there's more, WAY MORE! No other place in Okoboji can even compare to this place. Thanks Ken and Julie, you ROCK!!!

I have always loved going to Okoboji since I was a kid. I am now 39. We stayed at Fillenwarth Beach for the first time in 2009. And have been, every year since. Wish we would have sooner. The best location you will find in the area! Walking distance to Arnolds Park, Pirates Cove mini golf, Go Carts, Maritime Museum(a must see), Lots of neat shops and good restaurants. The Free boat rides are the best! All I can say is, Go there once and you will want to go back.

We've been staying at Fillenwarth every summer for many years. The South units have a nice view of West Lake Okoboji and are very close to Arnolds Park (5 minute walk). We enjoy Fillenwarth's boat cruises (free drinks), ski boats, sail boat rides, Monday evening Party (free drinks), indoor/outdoor pool, private docks, kids' crafts, beer tasting, wine tasting, and free DVD rentals. There are no additional fees for any activity at Fillenwarth. Room 104 is basically a motel room with a small kitchenette (including dishwasher). It has a covered patio with picnic table and gas grill. Fillenwarth Beach is a nice family resort.

This was my first trip to Okoboji, so although I can't compare Fillenwarth Beach with other resorts, the accolades from the people we met there who return year after year is proof that this is one of the best, if not the best, resort in the Okoboji/Arnolds Park area.

We were greeted warmly when we arrived at the front desk. This is a family owned and operated resort, rich in history. Upon check-in we were asked if we wanted to join the 4 p.m. lake cruise with free cocktails and snacks. Couldn't pass that up and it was delightful. The full boat pulled out of dock playing Jimmy Buffett's Margaritiville and other "easy listening" music. They not only served free drinks, but mid-way through the 45 min. cruise, we were treated to cheese, crackers and peanuts. We met several people on the cruise who say they return year after year, and many couples knew each other from previous years.

Our room was a small lakefront apartment on the Main Beach. Since it was after Labor Day, it was half-price. Although small, it was equipped with a large flatscreen TV, refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave. The toiletries were nice, from Bath and Body Works. Each apartment has a patio table and chairs and one grill for every two apartments . . . and a fabulous view of the lake! The resort also provides canoes, paddle boats, row boats and ski lessons, all free to guests. They have an indoor and outdoor pool and pool and ping pong tables. You can purchase really cool t-shirts, hats and other items featuring the resort's logo and name.

All the staff were very friendly and they love dogs! We enjoyed meeting Jigger and Claire in the office and fell in love with another guest's dog, Juno. It was a wonderful experience, very family oriented, and it looks like we'll be among those who return year after year.
