“Pee pool”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We were INCREDIBLY disappointed in this hotel! The information doesn't tell you that the pool is only 3 ft deep in the deepest part. Plus, it was cold and smelled like pee! The courtyard around it was beautiful but the pool was a disaster!! We also tried to call the front desk to get more towels and blankets(only three towels in the room) and it rang busy the entire time of our stay. We walked down and received no explanation as to why it always ran busy. We had hair in our bathroom sink and found a child's toy by one of the beds. One towel had a gross something on it and our blankets had stains. The entire hotel smelled of smoke. We were in a non-smoking room so our room was okay but the halls were awful! The deadbolt in our room didn't work. Another room was actually TRAPPED in their room because the lock wouldn't allow them to open the door. A manager had to drive from an hour away and then used a CROW Bar to get the door opened. Good thing there was no fire. The breakfast was nice and the front desk was very friendly but this hotel is not maintained at all and the cleaning staff needs all kinds of help!! Never again! Oh, and we paid a premium for the room-it was $129.00 per night!!!!! We have stayed in $80/rooms that were MUCH better than this!

Room Tip: Don't stay here until they get better management or make some repairs, especially to the pool...

This is a very nice hotel however the pool is very cold. We were very excited about having a room so close to the pool so that was somewhat of a letdown. It would also be nice if this hotel had a spa however I don't think there is a spot for one. The rooms are nice I love to see how that of flat screen televisions looked.

Most of the rooms face out to the pool. Do not get one of these rooms! At 4:45 the staff starts clanging around to set up the continental breakfast and making as much noise as they possibly can. This area is adjacent to the pool. For over an hour until just before 6am the noise and their talking had to have woken up half the hotel. Pool was also cloudy. Yuck!

I stayed at the Quality Inn in Ames IA in November 2012. They have just done a remodel of their facility. I enjoyed my stay. I had a clean comfortable room on the second floor that was quite even though it overlooked the pool. I did stay Monday through Thursday however so no overcrowded pool on the weekend. The breakfast is nice and well kept up. This facility actually has a person dedicated to the breakfast area. The free High speed wireless was great and worked without a hiccup. Front desk staff are very polite and make you feel welcome.

Stayed here for three nights. King room, fridge, micro. Overlooked the pool, but didn't hear too much noise. We were directly over the breakfast area, and there wasn't much bleed. Nice room, clean, well- appointed, very comfortable. Noticeable new updates since our last visit..very welcome and needed! The worst part was the door slamming. We were in an area with some grade school girls who were poorly supervised, ran and screamed in the hall way too much very early in the morning. Conversely, the 100 or so high school musicians staying there were a credit to their generation. Staff was very pleasant. Restaurant was good, but a slow night, so wait staff watched more TV than checked on customers. Still, pleasant experience. Room was clean, bathroom very nice, complete with tile shower which replaced the old tub/shower combo. Very nice. Nice tall vanity. Would recommend to any one.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

I have stayed at this hotel multiple times and one thing I will say is that the front desk staff is ALWAYS courteous and helpful. They seem to be in the process of upgrading their rooms, such as new bedding, bedroom furniture, and HD flat panel TV's, and bathrooms. But I have not seen any rooms fully renovated. My bed was great. The bathroom was nasty. Ceiling tiles were stained from leaks, shower/tub combo had old fixtures with poor temperature control, and the sink area is tiny and separate from the bathroom.

All of that is manageable and overall, my stay was comfortable. BUT...... I was completely turned off from this property when I went to breakfast that morning. The juice was sour, the muffins were stale. After tossing the muffins into the trash, I was ready to grab some of the eggs until I saw the attendant bring a fresh pan, and proceed to put the new eggs into the tray with her BARE HAND! She had one hand gloved, and one hand uncovered, and used the gloved hand to hold the tray, and her bare hand (is it washed, unwashed, just back from the bathroom???) to scoop out the eggs!

This is just simply unacceptable, and probably breaks health code. Hopefully the great management of this hotel reads these reviews so that they can address this with their workers.

Room Tip: Don't eat breakfast here!
